It’s always interesting to hear the point of view of someone outside the salon industry. Just the other day the subject of balayage came up and I mentioned that five out of eight of our colorists do balayage regularly with excellent results. (Unfortunately, too many people claim to be proficient at it, but the results speak for themselves!)

Anyway, my friend told me that most salons usually have ONE colorist doing balayage while the rest are contentedly foiling away. I am so proud of my staff.

The reason some colorists are resistant to balayage is that it feels like flying blind. There is no grid to guide their way as there is with foils. The placement is determined by their judgment and taste. They also have to be willing to take a few calculated risks.

But it’s a worthwhile venture. The results are completely organic-looking and the hair literally shimmers with light. And it’s a good thing to leave the comfort zone once in a while. Besides, once clients discover truly good balayage, they never want to go back to anything else!
