Cream of the Crop

Take a look at the influencers in Hollywood and you’ll notice one thing—short hair is by far the coolest look for summer. Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Ginnifer Goodwin, Britt Maren—they’re all rocking confident crops and this summer, your fashion-forward clients will definitely follow suit. Amy Abramite, Creative Director of Maxine Salon in Chicago, says, “Nothing is more striking than the girl with the short haircut in the room. People take notice! I cannot even begin to describe how in love I am with Britt Maren’s hair.” To create her eye-grazing crop, Amy suggests closely graduating the nape area to a finger's length. On the top portion of the head, graduate the layers using a round cutting technique. Next, slice out weight using your shears to create soft, texturized lengths in the fringe. If your clients want something a little shorter, Emma Watson’s chic cut is the perfect option. For this style, Amy says to point cut equal lengths of round layers throughout the entire head to create a head-hugging effect. Finish the detailing work around the hairline by point cutting the perimeter for softness. Read our summer cut and color round up for more seasonal trends!
