After hearing good critiques from my friends and Gold Coast neighbours about this salon, I decided to check it out because I was in bad need of a cut, colour, and brow wax. Getting an appointment was pretty easy and quick and they were able to literally do one service after the other with no wait times which is good for busy professionals like myself. The atmosphere was good and relaxed just like any high end salon. I think what's probably the most valuable piece of this particular salon is the fact that everyone working there has a great deal of experience (25 plus years) working in high fashion hair styling, and seems to listen to the very specific needs of each client, and does a very precise job. When it came to colour, Robert really listened to the fact that my main objective was to cover grays and at the same time get some highlights in the front, but nothing too outlandish being as I work in a conservative office setting--and he did just that. When it came to the cut, Cheryl also listened to my desire to get my very thick hair texturized and did a great job with the cut. It was the best cut I had in awhile. Jaime also did a great job at waxing the brows to where they are clean but not drag queen-like. The reason for four stars in lieu of five is the same consensus as what most have written on here- Price! More so in my case-- Most salons I have been to charge less than their standard cut/colour prices for mens' hair because it is (generally) less hair. With tip I dropped close to $300 here and ironically my credit card company even flagged my spending $300 at a hair salon as "suspicious activity" and originally declined the charges LOL (It was corrected with a quick call to a customer service rep who was astonished that it was in fact a legit charge) The last time I spent this type of money on hair services was probably in Paris at a luxury hotel salon. Don't get me wrong, I recieved outstanding service and an excellent cut/colour job, and living in the Gold Coast and doing most of my daily business in the neighbourhood am not one to have sticker shock, but think that the pricing needs to be modified especially if they want to attract a wider range of clients especially men.

Jaime Lewis at Maxine is amazing. A miracle worker with hot wax. Whatever, wherever you need waxed, she's your girl. Fast, efficient, clean and a great end result with practically no in-growns. In a pinch, I made the massive mistake of going to another, well-known Chicago salon with several locations. The appointment took way too long (why draw out the process of ripping hair from your body?!), and I ended up with loads of in-growns. Plus, the procedure I had was more expensive than Maxine's prices. I'm never going to let anyone else near my um, well...you know. And you shouldn't either!

Jaime is the Best! I have had my brows and lip waxed as needed, but I have been terrified of bikini waxes for ten years. I went to Jaime based on recommendations two weeks ago. She is FAST, which you want with a bikini wax. I was very comfortable so we ended up doing a full wax. She is extremely professional and her room is very clean. I am a wimp, but Jaime's style and demeanor make this necessary beauty treatment almost seem like pampering. If you want or need a bikini wax, she is the best!

I go to Maxine's all the time for my cuts and occasional color. I had never had a bikini wax there before, and one day gave it a shot. My appointment with Jaime was fantastic. She had me in and out in just a few minutes, perfectly hair free. I tried to follow up with another salon, closer to work. I figured it would be easier to run out on lunch and get it done. OMG, it was the worst ever. The other girl left me with little hickeys, lots of missed hairs, and later, I learned, many ingrown hairs. While waxing, she broke the hairs instead of actually waxing them out. It also took her over half an hour. I was in a full blown sweat by the time it was over. So, embarrassed, I went back to Jaime for some help. (I had let it grow out for a few weeks). She ran right through the wax, just as perfectly as before. She's awesome. There's almost no time for pain as she moves so quickly and efficiently. She also takes the time to make sure there are no stragglers left. LOL. She's great. She's very good at making you feel very comfortable in that often akward situation. I will not attempt to go anywhere else for these kinds of services ever again. Some people, like Jaime, are just pros. Stick with the best.

I got a fabulous facial by Jaime last Saturday! It was vigorous and energizing and my skin was left feeling very clean and glowing. Afterward, I could just put on my coat and go right out to a lovely lunch and to finish my Michigan Avenue shopping. Although I was offered a obe and slippers before my facial, I liked having the option to get the treatment without all the fuss of changing clothes and listening to that "spa treatment music." Jaime asked about my skin and was always making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. Great facial! Thanks, Jaime!

I've been a Client here for over 7 years...wow! My go to girl is Qiana. She has the skill, style, patience and so much more. Although prices are a bit steep for a wash and blowdry ($80), the level of service is superb. The two best stylists for easily handling naturally curly hair are Qiana and Michelle. Both of these ladies are superb at styling, cutting, keratin treatments, special occasion up-dos and fixing bad jobs by stylists form other salons. And should you need another type of service, you're in great hands: Waxing see Jamie Make-up see Michelle..yes, she kicks butt at that too...just look at her makeup on herself! Stunning! Color see Robert Holding down the front desk are Ricky, Carlos and Tracy...some of the funniest, most personable people you'll ever meet. Treat them right and you're sure to get that last minute appointment when you need it. Above all, Maxine's carries the best product line-up your hair will ever experience - Shu Uemura and Kerastase. Trust me, you'll never want drug store again, especially if you have naturally curly hair. Four stars because of the steep prices and a la carte charging..in this economy everyone needs a deal..at least every now and then.

I agree with the post about the esthetician Jamie. She is the best for a bikini wax. I've never had an appointment more than 15 minutes long, I"ve never waited more than 5 minutes, it's as painless as a bikini wax can be, and she remembers you and picks up right where you left off in your last conversation. I've recommended her to family and friends.

I miss Jaime. I seriously miss this chick that can wax me, flip my legs in abstract positions while talking sushi spots in Wicker Park. Since I'm 2,000 miles from home right now and I'm desperate, I popped into a place that had 4 stars on yelp. That extra star really does mean the world. I'm contemplating hopping on a plane just to get my hoo ha ha treated. Or if I was a self made millionaire, I'd hop HER on a plane to get me taken care of. My coif was butchered twice while I was away from home, my hairs down there are not fairing too well and all because nothing compares to Maxine. Oh well, unless summer then.

Jamie is the best brazillian waxer in Chicago. I have been to many of the "quote" best waxers in Chicago and none compare to the experience that I had with Jamie at Maxine's. She is super fast, virtually painless, precise (no stray hairs), completely entertaining and professional.
