If you want an awesome cut, go see Evan at Maxine. What can I say, Evan is the bee's knees. I have thick hair, and when I get it cut short I always have areas that stick up all over the place. Not when Evan cut my hair. He took his time and gave me the haircut I wanted. Plus, as a bonus, Evan likes sports and music. Two things I enjoy as well and we talked about the Bears, concerts and playing in bands. Needless to say I will be going back to Evan again. Go Bears!

I have been following around Diana for color and Theresa for cuts for over 15 years! They are simply the best hair "artists" in Chicago! I would never go to anyone else and would travel near and far for their services. I'm constantly complimented on my hair cuts and color! Maxine's hit the jackpot hiring these two. You'd be a fool not to utilize this talent on your next visit. Perfection!!

My hair looks even better after this first visit to Maxine
I also followed Diane to Maxine from Trio... Diane is the most talented colorist that I have ever used in the 20 years of highlighting my hair. My hair looks even better after this first visit to Maxine, and I think it is due to the superior quality of the products they use. I did not get my hair cut, but had scheduled Theresa to dry my hair. Drying is an extra charge which is new to me, but the additional $30 is worth the complete look. I recommend trying the two ladies for your next hair appointments - they are REALLY good.

You will love you hair!!!!
I have gone to Diana for color and Josie for cut since I was 11 (now am 22) they are just the best and really give you what you want and provide great insight. I used to go to them at Trio and followed them here.... Let me just say, Maxine is so much nicer!!! Follow my advice and make appointments with these ladies today.... You won't regret it, and you will love your hair!!!!

I finally found a great salon!!
I finally found a great salon!! My hair is thick, wavy and my ends were very fried from a previous color and cut that I wasn't really happy with. Evan cut my hair. He took the width out and made my hair more manageable then any cut that i have ever had. It's not too short and not to long, just perfect. Josh colored my hair and fixed my too blond highlights. He made my naturally dark brown hair more richer and even added some subtle red! Staff was very friendly and offered my coffee and refills. Very caring.

I'll never go anywhere but Maxine
I've tried a number of salons since moving to Chicago with overpriced, mediocre results. I'll never go anywhere but Maxine from now on. I am so glad I found Patrick. He is incredibly talented! I've seen him twice, once for full balayage and just recently for partial balayage. Under his guidance I'm embracing my natural color and have been delighted with the results so far. My current look is a natural dark blond with highlights painted on. I can't wait to see it grow out. The best part of balayage (done well, that is) is that rather than becoming increasingly annoyed as your roots grow out, instead you'll see that your hair just looks better and better as the weeks go on. As a former highlight addict I can't tell you what a relief it is for my psyche and finances to actually be HAPPY to go longer between appointments. Patrick is truly a strategic thinker, with impeccable technique and vision, and you WILL get your money's worth. He works with you to make a plan for your hair and applies the color in a customized and always-flattering way. I can't say enough good things. If I could rate Maxine independently of Patrick, I would give it 3 stars. They should tell you when you make your appointment that you'll be responsible for drying your hair, or paying $30 for that service. The people in the reception area are very friendly, but it bothered me on my first visit that I wasn't told in advance about this policy.

I am thrilled to share my favorite colorist
I am thrilled to share my favorite colorist and my favorite stylist with Yelp viewers. Diana Mildice has been coloring my hair and Theresa Tufte has been cutting my hair since 2001 and they are stuck with me as a client for life. They have both been so wonderful and they treat me with such great care. I recently developed an allergy to gluten and they have both gone out of her way to ensure there is no wheat protein or oat ingredients in the products they use on my hair. I am so happy to see Diana and Theresa at Maxine. The salon is clean, spacious and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up from this customer!

I recently discovered Maxine. Wow! The entire operation manages to be organized, efficient, but warm and relaxing. Peace and calm prevail. Diana is the best colorist I've worked with over many decades. And much to the delight of my husband, Josie returned my cut to our wedding day. Prices were lower than my last salon. JK

I highly recommend Theresa and Diana
I have gone to Diana Mildice for color and Theresa Tufte for cuts for over 6 years. My hair has never looked better. Diana sometimes jokes about having to go find her magic wand to fulfill my request. The truth is she doesn't need one. She is able to listen and really hear what it is I'm wanting my hair to look like (even though I have trouble articulating just what that may be). Theresa is able to cut my fine hair and afterwords, l look like I have 10 times more hair. When Theresa asks me what we're doing with my cut, I just ask what she thinks will look best. I always take her advice and I am thrilled with the results. I highly recommend Theresa and Diana for a great cut and believable blond color

Exceptional talent and modern techniques make Theresa & Diana a perfect cut and color team! I have been a customer for years and ALWAYS feel like a rock star when they transform my hair. I have had every color and style look incredible and my hair stays healthy too! Diana & Theresa are new to Maxine but arrive with an amazing amount of experience and skill. Diana--Diana--Diana!
I have three words of praise for Maxine's. Diana--Diana--Diana! She is the very best colorist in the city. No pretension here, just real talent mixed with a great personality. Her colors look real, like your hair just grew in that way. She makes sure she understands exactly what you want and then makes it happen like magic. Now I just tell her to do what she thinks is right and I am never unhappy (especially with all the compliments I get. Love her!

These girls are the best!
I've followed Diane Mildice & Theresa Tufte from their previous hair salon to Maxine Salon. Diane has been my colorist for years and I can't imagine being without her. I constantly get great feed back from people stating how much they love my hair!!!!! Theresa is by far a great stylist as well! These girls are the best!

Kudos to Maxine's!
I followed Theresa Tufte and Diana Muldice when they both made the transition from Trio Salon Chicago to Maxine's Chicago. Philip Palmeri, one of Trio's partners, had colored my hair for many years and he was "the man" - the "master" with color. I have hair that is resistant to color and needs a highly skilled colorist. The only other person I trust to color my hair, who is even close to his expertise and then some, is Diana. Both Diana and Theresa are highly skilled, interesting, smart professionals and if that's not enough - they both have hearts of gold. I congratulate Maxine for recognizing the high calibre of perfection and integrity these two classy women will bring to Maxine's Chicago. I've been fortunate to have Theresa cutting and styling my hair for the past 10 years. Her hair cutting technique is truly her own and is awesome; she is an "artiste" - a real perfectionist and is never satisfied with mediocrity. Once again, kudos to Maxine's!

For truly gorgeous hair, enlist the aid of the dynamic duo - Diana Mildice for color - blondes (without the brassy), vibrant brunettes, and glowing redheads. Diana does highlights, lowlights, and hand painting with consistent expertise. Theresa Tufte (a.k.a the Perfectionist) gives you such a precision cut, that you can actually replicate the results at home. I've been their client for over a decade, yet I still glow every time they spin my chair around to face the mirror where I can admire my glamorous new cut. More importantly, they are delightful individuals with killer senses of humor. Sassoon trained, they have recently moved from Trio to Maxine's at 712 N. Rush in Chicago.

Mohammed is a gem and a rare find!
I have naturally curly hair and have gone to many hair cutters/sylists over the years and when I found Mohammed Rashiv @ Maxine's I ended my search. Not only does my curly hair love Mohammed's cuts my hair NEVER out grows the style, it only grows longer and looks great for many months. I have recommended Mohammed to friends with many different hair types and he always exceeds my recommendations. Mohammed is a gem and a rare find!

It was awesome! Yes Awesome.
What can I say.... It was awesome! Yes awesome. Leslie did my color. She did caramel partial highlights. Blended very well with my color. Julianne cut my hair. I felt like a new person. She was very thorough and her technique is awesome....yes, I'm using the word awesome again. All in all a wonderful experience. I've gotten so many compliments already. I can't wait for my next appt!

I have never, ever been disappointed when I see Thor for a cut.
It might be pricey but I have never, ever been disappointed when I see Thor for a cut. I have straight, flat boring hair and when he's done with it I always have this wavy volume, he's magic and i have been going to him for ages now, a super man with great feel for his clients and what they want. The new salon is amazing too, great service, clean, minimal it does not feel like your ordinary gold coast salon, definitely worth the price and the trip.

Maxine is the best salon in Chicago
Maxine is the best salon in Chicago, and I have seen a lot of other places...They use the best products that are on the market right now for color ( see L'oreal Professional which are the same ones they use in Paris, Milano and London for models on professional settings ). Once you try the amazing colors and how your hair feels after you can never go back to anything else. And I know this from my own experience after using these products for years overseas as well. My fabulous person to go to here is Jasen, he is the sweetest, kindest and most attentive...I just got my hair done yesterday and even though I don't get to see him that often I am always super happy with his work. He's got great talent and a great eye for what matches my skin tone. Haven't found my match for a haircut yet, but I am looking forward to that...The great thing about Maxine is the diversity of talent they have...it might take some time to find the right one but hey, at least you have that option compared to other places...Just look around at what comes out of these people's hands...

Cannot imagine going anywhere else!
Just like many others, I've been going to Maxine since 2003 and cannot imagine going anywhere else! I've been seeing Robert for color and have never left there without loving the work he's done. After reading the stylists' biographies online, I chose to schedule with a newer stylist to the team who came over from another Gold Coast salong. Josie was AMAZING!!! I brought pictures from the way my previous stylist there was cutting my hair. She looked at them, cut some, looked again, etc. I cannot remember the last time I left the salon and LOVED LOVED LOVED the cut as much as the colorRobert did!! Not only is Josie fun and hip, she's amazing, has a ton of experience, has fabulous ink and is very personable! Josie is absolutely my go-to girl now! She also mentioned that if I needed a touch-up on my sideswept bangs, to please stop in at any time and she'll do her best to slide me in for the quick fix. Sure, Maxine is not a cheap salon by any means, but this just proves you DO get what you pay for. Spend a little extra and I can guarantee you won't head home and try to "fix" something your stylist did or worse, convince yourself that it'll be better in a few days. Honest.

See Diana for color, Theresa for cut. Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte are new members of the Maxine team. I followed them from another Chicago salon since I couldn't imagine going to anyone else. Diana is by far the best colorist I've ever had. She'll listen to what you want while offering advice as to what will work best for you. Theresa is a truly gifted stylist. She's given me consistently awesome cuts for the past 4 years. I really think if you are looking for a colorist and/or stylist, definitely give these two a try. You won't be disappointed! Oh and they are super cool people, too. The salon itself is beautiful and I found the general vibe there very nice. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

I LOVE Maxine Salon
I LOVE Maxine Salon. It is completely posh and fabulous and you feel tres chic when you walk in. I always go to Patrick for fantastic color and Mohammed for cuts and blow outs like you've never seen. They are both incredible. I look like I'm ready for a photo shoot when I walk out of there and I've had people tell me so! Patrick does the best biolage highlights and my hair always looks natural and beautiful. Mohammed literally creates supermodels out of scissors and a roundbrush. They always have the best ideas for my hair and always make me look like a rockstar. As others have said the service is 5 star and the people are extremely friendly and courteous. Thanks so much to everyone at Maxine!!!!

Patrick is a colorist who listened and went a step beyond my expectations
I got a haircut and color yesterday for the first time. To be honest, I went to splurge for myself with no intent to return and expecting to capitalize on the 25% off for first time clients. I also arrived wih lots of grey hair that I celebrate and welcome. I have no desire to cover them. And Patrick is a colorist who listened and went a step beyond my expectations. He did this fantastic balayage technique that got rid of these overlyblond old highlights and blended all of my hair into a glorious whole. Take it from a woman who doesn't like to color my hair-this man can blend his efforts into a perfect outcome. The haircut? Well I don't know it's all that. It was an exceedingly well done blowout and my hair has never been straighter. The salon was not all that wonderful for me. Stainless steel and white and all that, but not warm, welcoming, or calming. I didn't love the smell and would prefer Aveda all other days with regard to the design and ambiance. Additionally it was very busy and loud. I wish there was a way to accomodate the same number of patrons with less noise and bustle. In general Maxines is too rich for my blood, but Patrick just might tempt me back one of these days. Time will tell.

After yelp-ing different salons, I settled on Maxine's
I was in Chicago on business and after yelp-ing different salons, I settled on Maxine's. Let me tell you that my gamble paid off in spades! I first saw Leslie for my colour and she was fantastic...she knew exactly what she was doing and was super sweet. I then saw Josie for my haircut. Prior to my colour I had discussed with her different styles I was thinking about and,most importanly, the desire to fix the terrible haircut I was given at a salon in my home city. She came back with some pics and was bag-on to my wavelength. All in all, my Maxine experience was a great one...I definitely recomment it to anyone looking for a quality style and a quality salon. Oh, and don't forget to mention Yelp, the 25% discount was the cherry on the sunday :)

I decided to treat myself to a pamper day in Chicago
i live in Cincinnati, and after a rough week, I decided to treat myself to a pamper day in Chicago last week. Even though I called on a Wednesday, I was able to snag an appointment for that upcoming Saturday. I explained to the friendly receptionist that I had natural African-American hair and that I wanted to get it shampooed and blown out, and she directed me toward Rivkah, and explained that I could read more about her on Maxine's Web site. I also made a pedicure appointment with Ivy. That Saturday, I walked into the salon, and was amazed at how nice it was. It had a great energy! Since it was my first time at the salon, I had been a little nervous, but the really nice guy at the front desk instantly made me feel at home. He gave me a smock and directed me upstairs and told me Rivkah would be with me shortly - and indeed, she met me as i reached the top of the stairs . She is SO pretty! My first thought - if I end up looking half as fly, this will be great. She introduced herself, and I was struck by how nice she was. She asked me what I was looking for, and we spoke for several minutes as I explained I needed a trim, deep conditioner and blowout. She told me about the different kinds of conditioners they had and I chose the Kerastase. As she shampooed me - yep, she did it herself! - and gave me the conditioner, we chatted about how I ended up at the salon and got to know each other better. Overall, it was an extremely relaxing experience. She trimmed my raggedy ends into shape, and gave me these soft spiral curls, and my hair was bouncing and behaving! When I saw the final result, I was floored - my hair was FABULOUS! It hadn't looked that good in a LONG time. I immediately decided I would be back, and that Rivkah would be my go-to stylist. Thanks so much, Rivkah! Feeling really relaxed and good about myself, i headed off for my pedicure with Ivy, and the great vibes continued. Ivy is sweet and talented - I do a lot of walking so my feet needed some love, and by the time she got through they were summer-sandal-ready. I definitely will be back to see her too. Some have mentioned that Maxine is a little pricey, but it is worth it - you definitely get what you pay for, and feeling fabulous is priceless. :o)

As good as it gets!
Maxine is pretty much as good as it gets! I am now a total Maxine snob and refuse to go anywhere else...REFUSE. The irony of my Maxine snobbiness is that the people who work there are anything but! You'd figure that the location and quality of the work would make you feel like Julia Roberts when she walks into the bitchy dress store in Pretty Woman...but absoultely no. I think I laugh more with the people that work there than I do with some of the people I am friends with. Very cool people, from the stylists to the assistants to the people who work the front of the salon. I always see Stacie and she's been making my prematurely gray hair dissappear for the past two years. In some sort of amazing magic, she always manages to get my hair to look exactly how I want it to, no matter if its with highlights or whatever the hell else I am feeling that day. She's awesome, and I heart her. It's a very cool place, with cool people. They offer wine, which just makes an already great salon experience even better. Also, the prices are completely reasonable for the quality of the work. And they sell pretty much every Kerastase product with the added bonus of letting you try them all out if you choose to dry your own hair. Too fun. I would tell anyone looking for the best hair experience available in the 312 to call them, it's amazing how busy they are, yet they always work to get you an appointment that fits! Maxine....Yes, please.

I didn't know what I was missing.
After going to Mario Tricocci for about 5 years I didn't know what I was missing. Tricocci was a hair chop shop where after going to see the same stylist for 5 years you would think she would act like she remembered me when she saw me but she never did! Anyways, I stumbled upon Maxines when I was totally digging the hair of a girl I met. She told me she went to Maxines and was raving about them saying that they have specific stylists that specialized in specific types of hair or cuts. So I ended up seeing Joseph who was fabulous but moved to Miami :( They recommended me to Becca who does such a wonderful job! Ironically too we made the connection that we went to college together too! Small world. She is so awesome and she loves cutting long hair and she's so wonderful at it too! As well, after I had botched up hair color from another salon where I will not name. I will just say that you should run fast and far from a colorist who ignores your requests and does what "THEY" think is best despite what you think....Given that, I started seeing Brooke who "fixed" my hair. Brooke does GREAT highlights and will listen to you and take your opinion into consideration. Her highlights always grow out very natural, which is her goal. They have $12 valet which is REALLY nice, Mario Tricocci or Eliz Arden do not offer that. As well, the front desk staff is SUPER nice. And if you feel the inkling they also recently started serving wine and champagne. They do offer water, tea and coffee which I usually manage to grab a drink before I sit down. This is a super nice place and they have made me a loyal customer as I have been going here for about 4 years now!

Best Cut Ever!
I am so impressed with this salon! I was super nervous about finding a new stylist in Chicago, but I went to Evan Roberts, and he gave me the best cut I've ever had. He works great with long hair, and listened carefully to what I wanted before getting started. I'm getting married, and I was worried about getting too much chopped off. He just took off a little. Evan gave me a great cut, with beautiful layering towards my face. I highly recommend him and the Maxine salon!

Josie is the best hair stylist in Chicago
Josie is the best hair stylist in Chicago. I have been going to her since I moved here from the west coast 9 years ago. She was at Trio Salon downtown and I almost cried when they said she was no longer there. The good news I found her!!! She is now at Maxine downtown on Rush street. She is still amazing and the new salon is beautiful. if you want a great cut and an honest opinion about your style she is your girl.

I love my new hair.
I went to Maxine for the first time this past Friday and Evan was my stylist. My hair is fairly long, really thick, straight, but frizzy, and difficult to cut/style. I'm trying to grow it longer, but my hair was so uneven in the back. He truly listened to me and to what I wanted. He is super patient and took his time cutting and styling my hair and didn't rush through it at all. He gave me the most awesome bangs and fixed the un-eveness in the back and added some layers so that it wouldn't look too heavy. I love my new hair. I will definitely return and recommend him to my friends. Thanks Evan!

I have to hand it to these guys.
I have to hand it to these guys. They can do hair. I love just going in to getting my hair styled but always seem to miss it when it gets cut off. Maxine is a bit pricey, but I like to shell out for the perfect layers. I mean its a friggin tough job to get my hair right.. .espec. since its naturally curleee. I think I may try to scope out some good stylists near my hood though..

Go see Bob!!!
Go see Bob!! For my birthday, I had Bob cut my hair and it was the best present I could give myself. Not only did he do a beautiful haircut that left my hair looking healthy, but his blowouts make me want to strut down the street and whip my hair back until i have whiplash (and the blowout lasted a good 3 days - loves it). Bob is kind, funny and he definitely knows what he's doing. I felt very confident in him and could just relax and let him work his magic.

Robert is AMAZING
Robert is AMAZING and I am entirely happy with the service I received at Maxine's! Robert fixed my hair and ended my six months of 'hair' misery. Let me start by saying that about six months ago I had long hair down to the small of my back. I decided to go back to my natural hair color (ash blonde/brown) and a high end salon here in Chicago over processed it and fried a lot of my hair off. Since the prior salon made my hair too blonde, I went elsewhere to have my hair dyed an ash blonde/brown. The second place accidentally dyed my hair black and mismatched my roots. After going to two places I was pretty miserable and as a young professional woman, these drastic results were unacceptable - the black was most shocking at work. Going back to my Maxine's experience, two months ago I saw Robert and asked to have my hair lightened. He was very honest with me (thank goodness) and told me my hair was too damaged to lighten at the time, and that doing so would most likely cause damage (meaning more of my hair would have to be cut off). I asked him what my options were and he gave me three: (1) lighten it that day and have most of my hair cut, (2) darken the roots to match the rest, or (3) wait six weeks to lighten it and condition it heavily with a hair mask in the meantime. I put my trust in Robert and chose option 3. On the big day Robert lightly bleached my hair twice and added red to it. He did all of this with virtually no damage. My hair color looked amazing and I still had my length! Almost instantaneously I felt 100% better about my appearance, and that's thanks to Robert. I also wanted to mention two of the guys that work at the front desk, Carlos and Richard, they were great! And I especially want to thank Carlos for recommending Robert to me. I feel that the prices, although a little high, are reasonable for what you get - remember you do get what you pay for. Overall I highly recommend Maxine's to everyone.

Maxines is in a great location; friendly front desk, etc.etc. But the best reason to come here is JOSIE--she recently moved here from Trio, and she is the most amazing hair-cutter/stylist, ever. If you are looking to switch things up, or just need a new cut, you will not be sorry....expensive, but its your hair! Why not spend a little more and get the very best hair cut...you will not be sorry!

You absolutely, positively MUST go to Mohammed
If you're going to Maxine's for a haircut, you absolutely, positively MUST go to Mohammed. I have been going to him for YEARS and will follow him to the ends of the earth for a haircut. I have lived in New York for nearly 10 years and I still make sure to see him when I'm in town because he is not just a stylist, he is truly an ARTIST! Over the years, he has cut my poker straight, fine Asian hair a variety of ways-from very short to long. His haircuts are always flattering to my face, suitable for my hair type, up to date and current. (I know he also specializes in African American hair.) In the nearly 20 years that I've known him, he has NEVER steered me wrong. After trying many stylists in New York, I have yet to find someone in New York whom I trust as much as I trust him-plus I shouldn't have to take out a second mortgage just to get my hair cut! New York has a lot to offer but we don't have Mohammed!

I've been a Client here for over 7 years...wow! My go to girl is Qiana. She has the skill, style, patience and so much more. Although prices are a bit steep for a wash and blowdry ($80), the level of service is superb. The two best stylists for easily handling naturally curly hair are Qiana and Michelle. Both of these ladies are superb at styling, cutting, keratin treatments, special occasion up-dos and fixing bad jobs by stylists form other salons. And should you need another type of service, you're in great hands: Waxing see Jamie Nails see Kerri Make-up see Michelle..yes, she kicks butt at that too...just look at her makeup on herself! Stunning! Color see Robert Holding down the front desk are Ricky, Carlos and Tracy...some of the funniest, most personable people you'll ever meet. Treat them right and you're sure to get that last minute appointment when you need it. Above all, Maxine's carries the best product line-up your hair will ever experience - Shu Uemura and Kerastase. Trust me, you'll never want drug store again, especially if you have naturally curly hair. Four stars because of the steep prices and a la carte charging..in this economy everyone needs a deal..at least every now and then.

I went home feeling and looking like a new woman.
I have been to Malice several times and recently decided to cut a significant amount of my hair (+10 inches)and donate it to Beautiful Lengths. I went to Malese and she did an incredible job. I went home feeling and looking like a new woman. Fantastic! She is friendly and very precise. I have straight hair and she made sure that the layering was perfect . She even took time to show me how to style it so that I would be able to make it look great. I love her talent so much, I had her do my up-do for my wedding. If you need a blow out, a cut or a fantastic up-do, you should definately make an appointment with Malese.

I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair
I moved to Chicago this past summer. I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair. The first time I went to Maxine I had a decent cut...nothing amazing. However, when I asked my colorist a rec. for a stylist she suggested Sanda. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sanda. I recently went short and she did an amazing job. I have never had so many compliments on my hair before. As a struggling teacher the cut is expensive....but well worth the money. I still need to find a good colorist...everytime I get my haircolored it turns out more red than I want....I just want a natural brown. For my stylist Sanda...I give her 5 stars!!!

Props to Maxine for not only being a top notch salon, but providing such great customer service.
Tracey from Maxine contacted me shortly after I posted the review, and offered to help me find a colorist. I went back over the weekend to Bob again, and Patrick. Patrick did a tint and then "express balayage", as I believe it's called, on my hair, and then put a gloss on it.....and I have to say I look FABULOUS!!! I had thought balayage was more of a "blonde thing" and told him I wanted to stay out of the realm of caramel/blonde highlights, but he did a chocolate brown tint and just painted some warm light brown pieces in, and it looks fabulous!! Unique, and compliments my coloring. Let me point out that it has been OVER 5 MONTHS since I got a trim with Bob....and while anyone who knows hair is probably cringing as they read this, the shape of my cut held up SO WELL over the past 5 months!! I only needed to remove the dry split ends. Before Bob I would have to get my hair cut every other month to keep it looking decent. Props to Maxine for not only being a top notch salon, but providing such great customer service. You don't often find that.

Accommodating management...
Accommodating management encouraged me to give the salon another chance and I'm glad I did. Second time around was a good experience and I left the salon with a great cut. My stylist listened to what I wanted and didn't want and was extremely precise and patient.

I highly recommend Maxine
Went to see Bob for a haircut and Patrick for highlights in August. I waited till now to post my review because I wanted to see how my hair grew out. I've been to dozens of salons in the past where my haircut and color looked great when I first walked of the door just to find out that it grew out awfully a month later. Highlights: This was my first time with Patrick having a new type of procedure done on my hair called balayage (hair painting as an alternative to foil highlights) . Patrick is very skilled and did a great job painting my hair. I had told Patrick that I wanted lighter highlights and that's what he gave me. Well, a few days later, I decided that my hair was too light and went in for a glaze/toner to bring it up a shade. Patrick was so nice about it and was genuinely determined to make sure that I was leaving the salon with the color I wanted. Fast forward: For the past three months after my hair was colored, I've toned it up once in a while to keep the color. I must say that Patrick was correct in that the his method of hairpainting allows your hair to grow up without noticable roots. I didn't have the definite line on the crown of my head demarcating regrowth and highlights. Patrick did such an awesome job! Haircut: I would definitely recommend Bob! He's the absolutely talented with his shears and really gives an outstanding cut. He is very meticulous and truly strives for perfection. If you have long hair and want amazing layers that gives your hair volume and styling flexibility, go to Bob! Fast Foward: My hair did grow out nicely (it's been 10 weeks). Thanks Bob! I highly recommend Maxine. Great salon with excellent talent and service. I just wished it was a bit less expensive.

Being Latino with curly and lots of hair..
I've been going to Maxine's since 2000. Tina and Sanda are the best for color and style. Being Latino with curly and lots of hair, I always walk out of the place feeling great. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

I get compliments so much!
Ok, everyone I know goes on here and writes reviews about something great (and bad), but today something great! I have gone for the second time now to see Patrick at Maxine to get my color done. He does a technique called Balayage...it is highlights that are painted on in a way! Anyway, I went a few months ago (yes I said a few MONTHS) and then today and I am amazed. It looks so natural and lasts longer which is great in this economy! It costs a little more but lasts twice as long!! I get compliments so much! I am stoked! If you want great service, results and a fun person doing your hair go see Patrick!

My stylist was Rivka and I LOVE HER!
I am not a salon girl and I am DEFINATELY not a fancy downtown salon girl so this place HAS to be special. I have gone there a few times to this trendy, upscale and modern salon to be greeted by friendly people without major attitude. My sylist was Rivka and I LOVE HER! I love her style and her cuts! Have you ever had a haircut by a person who you didn't think was all that attractive and thought to yourself "Why would I trust my beauty to this person?" With Rivka, I don't feel that way and hope I walk out looking like her! My new haircut she suggested has looked good for months and I am still getting complimented on it!

When a business owner treats her customers with so much respect
hi, i write this note to replace a review that i had previously written about this salon. I had felt unhappy with my experience at this salon for a few reasons. In response to my review, i received a note from the owner that was honestly, over the top in graciousness. Given the number of positive reviews about her business on this site, she could have easily ignored and discounted mine in a defensive way. I know that there are no facts about the actual services in this review but i wanted to post it because, when a business owner treats her customers with so much respect, you know she runs a class act and it is worth giving the place another chance/ trying it out.

Patrick was wonderful!
I have been to more salons in Chicago than i care to mention and have had many horrible experiences! Today I tried a new salon (Maxines) and a new colorist (Patrick). Patrick was wonderful! He did a great job with the high and lowlights with my hair. Not only was he very pleasant and a great listener but also a great colorist and seemed genuinely determined to make sure I left happy (which is more than I can say for many colorists I've seen in the past..)! At Patrick's recommendation, I had Julianne cut my hair and she was great too. The front desk staff was extremely friendly as well! The only negative with this salon is that it was quite expensive but it was worth it in the end as I was quite happy with the result! I will definitely be back!

I leave feeling like a movie star!
Every time I get my hair cut here, I leave feeling like a movie star! I've had my hair cut here 3 times. I love how, the first time I made an appointment here, they asked about my hair type and paired me up with someone who specializes in that particular type of hair. I was paired up with Adrianne and she rocks! I have a lot of super fine hair and really like to have a hairstyle, not just a plain 'ol cut. She nails my hair ever single time. I just went to see her today and I am thrilled! I took in a picture of what I wanted and she nailed it. I got a compliment in the street within ten minutes of leaving Maxine. Adrianne is always upbeat and friendly. The salon is always very clean and there are people cleaning up hairs as they are being cut. Very nice, white, modern looking place. Everyone is friendly. I got lucky and found Maxine right after moving to Chicago. I was terrified of trying a new colorist after some past horror stories, but Yelp led me right to Jasen and his incredible highlighting talents. He is a total sweetheart and does a fantastic job lightening me to just the right shade of blonde. I've gotten compliments on my hair color all over the place! The price is reasonable - getting regular highlights is EXPENSIVE, but this place is no more expensive than my past hair salons. The bad news is that I tried Maxine for a cut, twice. I'm too lazy to run around town using multiple salons, and I was so happy with my color that I figured it made sense. Well, the first time I got a trim and was charged $120 for the 10 minute cut. Considering I used to pay $55 to an awesome stylist, I think this is outrageous. Unfortunately, I didn't learn my lesson and went back a second time for a more substantial cut. I again paid $120 for a cut that ended up much shorter than I'd requested. I almost cried. Needless to say, I'm on the hunt for a new place for my next cut, but I could never give up my every-six-weeks visits to Jasen!

Wonderful colorist and hairstylist‎
Robert Benett is the best colorist. He is a true master of his profession. I go every 8 weeks and my hair is healthy and stays shiny. I receive many compliments. Malese does a fantastic haircut with the perfect grow out. I trust her completely with my hair. Excellent.

Wonderful! I chose to visit this salon after reading review by other yelpers (thanks!). I started with just getting my haircuts here after moving to the city. I am currently with Brigette, whom I absolutely love. She is incredibly kind and talented. I showed up after getting the first bad haircut of my life (after 20 years of mall haircuts, no less) and Brigette was able to turn it into a chic and beautiful cut. Next, I ventured into the world of color. I recently worked with Patrick who recommended Balliage treatments for my dark brown hair. It looks great, even after sending a week in the sun! The color looks so natural where the highs and lows appear to have been placed by time spent outside. Furthermore, I have had several treatments with Jamie. Jamie waxes both my eyebrows and my bikini line. She is straight forward and far from shy, so it makes it much easier to trust her. She does a great job and is incredibly fast without me feeling like she is rushing. I truly like this place, and if it weren't on the expensive side, I would absolutely give it the full 5 stars.

I'm excited to try more color with Stacie.
UPDATE: I had been to Maxine a few times and I was pretty happy with it. Rivkah is very nice and gives exceptional blowouts. Last summer, I decided to do something different and go a lot shorter. There was some miscommunication and I ended up with an unsatisfactory cut. I called Maxine and they had me come in the same day and have it tweaked, free of charge. I also mentioned in my previous review that I was unhappy with the color, and Tracey contacted me and asked me to come in and try again, as her guest. I booked an appointment with Stacie and am so happy I decided to go back to Maxine! She is very knowledgeable about color and was able to tell me that the light ash brown color I am always trying to get out of my dark brown is basically impossible, among other random color questions I had. We decided on honey blonde highlights. This was my first time going much lighter but I am so pleased with the results. She did the color herself, without help from an assistant, and was very careful in applying and checking in on how the color developed. My hair has more dimension and the highlights look so natural. I notice less that my hair even has highlights. It just looks... sunnier, which is perfect for summer. I got my hair blown out by Neepa, who I ended up having so much in common with. Another great blowout from Maxine. I also really appreciate that she told me exactly what products she was using on my hair. Very impressed by the management, who in the end corrected both my haircut and my color. I'm excited to try more color with Stacie. I'll be back for sure.

UPDATE THREE This may be getting tedious that I keep making updates, but after a decade of putting up with shoddy hairdressers who claim to be elite (Toni & Guy, Charles Worthington etc salons), I am so thrilled that I found Bob and Josh at Maxine. Bob is the best - I don't need my hair cutting that often but i do need my bangs taming as they go wild inbetween cuts and i start to look like a porn version of Jill Munroe. Bob lets me run in to see him for 10 minutes to tame my bangs and then I'm off looking less pornish for another couple of months. Josh is the best colourist I have had, period. He's an artist with his balayage skills. Love you both!! And if my friends don't start using you, I'm cutting them off.

Chicago, IL 5 star rating 5/28/2009 I've lived in Chicago for three years and vowed to only get my hair done when I visited home by the same people who have always been doing my hair. I finally thought "if I'm going to live here forever I need to find a place here to get my hair done." I got on yelp and picked Maxine. I called in, let the ridiculously friendly phone people pick a colorist. Got Patrick. Went in for a consultation, told him repeatedly how nervous I was about going from brown back to being a blonde. He assured me it would be a slow process and it'd be fine. When you get there they offer you water, coffee, tea, whatever you want. After three sessions with him I'm at a blonde color that I LOVE! Probably my favorite blonde that I've ever been at. Next step in living here forever... Getting a hair cut! Even something I'm more nervous/picky at. Patrick told me to go to Julianne.The first time I did nothing drastic, just a trim. The second time I decided to go a little shorter than I normally would, I love it! She's super nice. Always have good conversation which can sometimes be awkward while getting your hair cut. I've never had a bad experience there. It is a little more pricey than I used to pay but it's fine for the results I'm getting. I'd definitely recommend going there to anyone and I barely trust anyone with my hair.

I have been getting tons of compliments
I had never even heard of Maxine before it was featured on Groupon. But in these economic times I jumped ship and signed up for waxing, a single-process color and a cut at Maxine. The waxing (done downstairs) with Mara was thoughtful and caring. She took the time to craft my brows and took a quick hand to my lip. She offered up ways to counteract the redness and my never ending breakouts. It's now three days later, and not a single breakout! Amazing. The real story is upstairs with an inventive and skilled hair staff. A quick consult with Patrick (color) and then joined by Malese (cut) so together they could create a cohesive plan of attack to update my 1993 Aniston. Patrick knew immediately how to warm up my dark (and lingering) winter color while not creating a red / brassy undertone. He was quick and the technique flawless. He applied all the color and only relied on the assistant to pull the color through the ends and glossing. Malese inspired the lobbing off my hair. She was confident in her vision and I could not be happier! She came to me with an idea and stood behind it. So often I'm met with uninspired stylists who call it in and dole out long layers over and over. Malese was fantastic and I have been getting tons of compliments. All compliments should be delivered to Malese and the staff at Maxine. A+

I love Maxine!
I thought I wrote a review earlier about this place but looks like I'm going to have to do it now! I love Maxine! Severn is AWESOME! I have really thick asian hair but Severn knows how to get in there and chop it all off making my hair perfect. I wanted layers and so I got layers!! I had a great hairstylist back in CA and was so afraid I wouldnt be able to find anyone in Chicago that could do what she did, but then I found Severn. This place accepts all credit cards but the salon will only charge you for the services. If you'd like to give any tips, you'd have to pay cash for it.

Jaime is the best for a bikini wax
I agree with the post about the esthetician Jamie. She is the best for a bikini wax. I've never had an appointment more than 15 minutes long, I"ve never waited more than 5 minutes, it's as painless as a bikini wax can be, and she remembers you and picks up right where you left off in your last conversation. I've recommended her to family and friends.

I have NEVER left a salon happier with my hair
This review is based on a close friend's experience. He's not a yelper, but he raved so much I felt like I should put it out there. Here's his review: "NOT cheap. But I'll say this. They're fun, chill, smiling, and great. Everyone there was VERY cool. It was chic, but inviting. Julianne is the name of the girl who cut my hair, and LOVE her. I have NEVER left a salon happier with my hair. OMG. I felt like a million bucks. Five stars. Prices are high (my haircut was $70, but I got a first-timer discount for mentioning Yelp), so I imagine it can get insane for women. But to feel this good about it...is there a price to put on that?

Nothing compares to Maxine
I miss Jaime. I seriously miss this chick that can wax me, flip my legs in abstract positions while talking sushi spots in Wicker Park. Since I'm 2,000 miles from home right now and I'm desperate, I popped into a place that had 4 stars on yelp. That extra star really does mean the world. I'm contemplating hopping on a plane just to get my hoo ha ha treated. Or if I was a self made millionaire, I'd hop HER on a plane to get me taken care of. My coif was butchered twice while I was away from home, my hairs down there are not fairing too well and all because nothing compares to Maxine. Oh well, unless summer then.

This place is very pricey. Don't go if you're not willing to pay. But if you are willing to pay, you will get your money's worth here. Maxine's is on it! After I wrote this review Tracey, the manager, contacted me. She invited me back to see another haircolorist. I previously wrote about Brooke, and I felt bad because I didnt mean to be that negative about her, I just didnt feel like I clicked that well with her, although I think she did a good job. Anyway, I went back and it was worth it. I also went back to Malese and I really love her! She is a great stylist and really sweet. I will def be going back to see her before a big night out. I really appreciate that Tracey and Maxine went out of their way to make sure I was happy. It says a lot about how they treat their salon and level of customer service.

My eyes are finally open.
My eyes are finally open. I am closer to being a more complete person. Yes, my hair f**king rocks. Ever wonder how Hollywood's collective hair looks so damn fine? Now I know... Balayage. I just had my hair done with this freehand technique and it came out absolutely gorgeous. I've been seeing Patrick for over four years (actually followed him to Maxine) and was always more than happy with how he did my hair. My previous visit with him early October, he told me about a newer (at least to Chicago) process that didn't require foils. He said he would paint my highlights freehand, allowing a more natural look. Never have been disappointed with his foil work, I decided to take a pass. Again, his work shined. His passion, though, about this new technique had me doing a little research when I got home. Fast Forward: My Next Beauty Day I decided to let Patrick have his way with me... um, my hair, I mean. He sat me down and went over the how's and why's, made sure I was comfortable, and then proceeded to beautify the bejesus out of me. Jennifer, eat your heart out. The look is subtle, natural, um and, oh ya, awesome. I get my hair cut elsewhere by someone who doesn't dole out compliments easily. When I sat in his chair later that day, the first thing out of his mouth was "DAMN" as in beautiful. Like I said, I loved his work before. Now, though, there is no doubt Patrick Ryan is the best hair colorist in all the land. Thanka, thanka, thanka!

This place is great.
This place is great. My mother and both of my sisters have gone here for over two years. We all get our hair cut by Rivkah (http://www.maxinesalon...), who is fantastic - I've never had a better haircut, but it's my sisters and mom who really look dramatically different and feel great with their cool new looks. My mom gets her coloring done by Stacy, and she's been very happy with Stacy's work (plus she's "such a doll," as my mother says). The colorists and stylists at Maxine can do anything, but the vibe is very classically chic - I haven't seen many clients leaving with mohawks or garish colors.

My search is over!
I just moved to the city and was a little nervous about finding a new stylist. My search is over! I have hair extensions and plan to fly back to Scottsdale to have them redone every 3 months but was looking for someone to trim them up in between (not an easy task). BOB GARTON is "THE MAN" ! I left feeling and looking like a movie star! I seriously noticed people staring at my hair as I walked down Rush Street :) I was happy that when I washed my hair and styled it by mybigself it still looked fabulous. He even sent me home with styling products that really made a differnece. I will be back

I love this place.
I love this place. Moreover- the people who work at this salon also love it and it makes a huge difference to get service from people who genuinely like where they work. Jason is an amazing colorist (and a sweetheart too). I see Patricia for my hair and I really like her, but my partner went to someone else when Patricia was off and she was good too. Also- they have $12 valet parking (which is pretty cheap since the garage across the stress is something like $20). Highly recommended.

Patricia has helped me find services that really help me go for what I'm looking to do with my style, and her cuts with the color is driving everything else - she sooo rocks! I may live so close it would be silly for me to go to anyone else at this point, but the folks here are just incredible and incredibly fun. Highly recommended. Can't recommend Patricia or Jasen high enough. Think five stars with an extra plus.

I adore Maxine Salon
I adore Maxine Salon. I have been going to Becca for more than six years (ever since I moved here) and she always makes me feel special. We may not see each other for six weeks, but we always seem to pick up right where we left off. I used to see Brooke for color, but I decided to go back to my natural shade, so I don't see her regularly - but she always makes a point to stop by and say "Hi" when I'm with Becca. The reception people are the nicest you could ask for and everyone just seems genuinely happy to see you. I love Maxine and I have recommended the salon to my friends (all of whom are also in love!).

Wonderful gentle smiles greeting you at the door
I have been to previous salons in the past and have never experienced anything like this. Wonderful gentle smiles greeting you at the door (RICK). Jasen is excellent, He listens and analyses your hair and tells you what would best compliement you, He listened to me as I pour my heart and soul out and was very compassionate. I recommend him to everyone, He's great with coloring ethnic hair as well(im AA). After that I went upstairs to visit the very talented and drop dead gorgeous Quiana. She is very maticulous at what she does and holds conversations which have you feeling like you have known her for years. She took my lifeless thin hair and had me walk out with my co workers asking me if I have weave in my hair. I would most def be back in 2 weeks. Jasen I wish we could color our hair every 2 weeks as well because you gave me killer highlights, unfortunately I have to wait a couple of months before I get them retouched. Yes, they are expensive but you pay for what you get so stop saying you have to take out loans, its not like you were forced to go there. If you want top notch service you better believe you have to pay $$$$ and it was worth every cent of my money. If you should find yourself at Maxines tell them Christina S. Recommended you. Great salon
Great salon -- they use kerastase, a prerequisite with me -- and they are really nice and friendly. Polite on the phone. Wow, why did it take me so long to find this place?? I got a really great cut here and recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere with the following qualifications: Clean, modern decor without being sterile Kerastase products (ok i'm obsessed but they smell so good) Welcoming, not snobby staff Great location Reasonable prices Availability of stylists QUALITY, stylish cuts. ((Ok not to be rude, but you won't get a "Chicago" cut. For those of you who have lived abroad or on the East coast, you know what I mean. A Chicago cut, to me, is that flippy, sticking out cut that was sort of trendy in the 90s, but not really, and people seem to still think is "cutting edge." It's like some Chicagoans see what's in style, and then they do it to the nth degree and make it ugly. I'm from Chicago don't get me wrong I love you guys but it's noticeable the second you step off the plane.))

Totally top notch salon
Totally top notch salon. I found them on Craigslist after deciding to lop off over 14 inches of hair to be donated to Locks of Love. I've never had hair this short and was determined, yet worried that I wouldn't be happy with the final result. I had heard about free haircuts given by beauty school students, and figured that I would give it a shot. If anyone could take off 14 inches and make me look and feel fabulous, while also contributing to their effort at full certification, I'm all about it! I arrived to the posh Gold Coast salon, ditching my off work clothes (dingy college t-shirt and lycra shorts) for a summer dress and sandals, knowing that even if my hair was traumatized, the rest of my body would still be rockin'. The minute I entered, I thought that maybe I would be treated as a less quality guest, you know - coming in for the free haircut. Nope, not the case in the least. The receptionist greeted me with a pleasant smile and offered me a beverage as I waited for my student to finish up with her morning cut. The waiting room is sleek with a long red couch and lots of high end magazines. There is a weird exercise machine contraption (or at least, that's what I thought it was), which seemed bizarre, but who knows with those Rush Street women. Maybe they like a little cardio while waiting for a spa day treatment, ahh, the luxurious life. Anyways, I was brought back by my student, Brittany, and explained that I would be donating the hair to Locks of Love. Under supervision, she was taught how to properly gather the hair and cut if someone chooses to donate. I was her first donation experience. After the pony tail was chopped, she spent almost two hours giving me my first short hair cut ever (a little above the shoulders). She spent minute by minute, evaluating the length and the hair angle, shaping and sculpting my new 'do. She did an amazing job, and her instructor showed a fine attention to detail, also sculpting my hair to inspect each snip made. I loved my new look and my hair felt healthy, was shiny and fabulous. I would definitely go back in a heart beat to this salon.

Who is that beauty in the mirror? Well, it's me. Really? REALLY!! I moved here in June and had my hair done at a "salon" which i will not utter it's name. OUCH!!! The buzz didn't live up to it's hype, if you know what I mean. Went back and had my precious hair salvaged by another stylist but when the time came to wash the summer out of it, I needed another option. I could NOT risk it again. Enter Maxine into my life. Such a sleek modern space. Immediately I felt like I was in for something special. I would not be disappointed. Never have I felt so pampered. Maxine's was highly recommended to me by a friend (thanks Cindy). We all know how those "rave reviews" usually fall flat of expectations. NOT THIS ONE!!! Patrick did my color. He is such what I've been looking for; professional, patient and a really good listener. Never before have I had a colorist sit with me and ask me exactly what I wanted then turn and get the job done with such exactness. He went and got pictures to make sure and even threw in a few pieces of his own advice of what he's been seeing other ladies do successfully. Patrick was meticulous with his work while also chatting away with me. Such a sublime experience. REALLY!! Juliane did my cut. WOW!! another exceptional experience. The whole time she talked to me like I was her best friend, making me so comfortable. Plus, she cut my hair perfect. PERFECT!! The outcome? HOT!!! There is nothing like hearing how good my hair looks. MAXINE, PATRICK and JULIANE, thank you. No more worries for me on where to get my hair done!! :):)

These people are so wonderful! I needed some work on the quick, the love of my life had just asked me out!, and my usual salon was booked. I fired up Yelp and found Maxine, thank heavens! Yay! Getting my hair cut here was SO NOT SCARY! Seriously, when was the last time you went to a new stylist and a new salon without a little trepidation? From the initial call to make the appointment during which the person who answered the phone helpfully suggested Severn on account of his experience cutting Asian hair to the appointment itself, everything was easy and relaxing. The salon is clean, spacious, and modern and everyone I talked to there was friendly and helpful. It's the sort of place that probably could be snooty if they wanted to, and yet really really weren't. Severn is fantastic. He didn't offer the slightest reproach when I ashamedly told him I hadn't had a cut in 8 months because I don't trust new places, nor did he "tsk tsk" when I told him I only blow dry on special occasions. He listened to what I need and then made suggestions for what he thought would look good. It was great that he was really thinking about what would work for me. He gave me just what I need- a clean, simple cut that looks great and won't require much styling, and he did it with lots of care and attention to detail. He even spent a few minutes meticulously trying to discover which few strands on the left side were causing it to look unbalanced (in his eyes, that is. I couldn't even tell!) The cut was relaxed and unhurried, and it was fun talking to him- he's a super nice guy with lots of interesting stories. You may at this point be wondering whether a good salon review from me holds any water given that I'm the sort of person who can go 8 months without a haircut... if you don't believe me that this guy is great, there's a magazine clipping on the wall in front of Severn's chair from the July 2008 issue of Vogue which calls him a "rising star" stylist. Make your appointment while he's still got time for you! Oh yeah- and there's a 25% discount for new customers if you mention you found them on Yelp- great deal. But do tip your stylist based on the pre-discount price... they're still giving you full service!

Becca is an absolute doll...
Becca is an absolute doll....consistently awesome cuts for my curly hair. It's rare that I find someone who cuts my very thick, very unruly hair in a cut that works both straight AND curly....while the price is a little steep, Becca's cuts always last me at least 8 weeks and I've pushed them to 12 when my travel schedule didn't allow me to get back for a cut.

Bob, Bob, Bob.
Bob, Bob, Bob. It is all about stylist Bob and his miracle cuts. He knows what I want before I know. I am thinking of a style, and when I walk out I have it. He can read between the lines when I chat about what I think would be good. His cuts last longer than usual. A good thing since I have moved to the burbs and have to travel to get there. (One of the things I miss about living in Streeter area). Would and have recommended Bob to numerous people. Those that tried Bob have great comments about their experience. He makes the whole experience fun!!

OVERALL: The entire staff is extremely friendly and professional. I always had a great experience. CUTS: When I moved to Chicago I was nervous to find a good stylist. My hair is very fine and thin and I wear it so short one false move means I can't exactly go to another salon to get it fixed. A trusted co-worker recommended Severn at Art + Science on Armitage. After just one fantastic haircut, he moved to Maxine salon and I followed. Severn worked magic on my hair for two years before I moved to Austin. He was very concerned with making sure the cut looked great with my face shape, body type, personality, and styling habits. I'm to the extreme of hands-off, but he managed to give me cuts that looked amazing even on the days I bludgeoned the snooze button and walked straight out the door. Usually, short hair means really frequent haircuts, but I can't afford to go back that often. Even on very short hair, he built in so much structure that I could go nearly two months without a cut and still get asked for the the name and number of my stylist. Seriously, he gave me a discount for how many new clients I sent his way. He is that rave-worthy. On top of his amazing hair talent, he is a joy to be around. I wished I was one of those old-school Barbie dolls whose arm you could crank up and down to make her hair grow, just because he is so much fun. He's great at remembering what's going on in your life, and we found a lot of ground for interesting conversations. He always made me comfortable, even though I don't feel like I belong in fancy salons. It's pricey, but who isn't crotchety on bad hair days? 800 great hair days in a row, consistent compliments, zero stress come haircut-time, and Severn's company was worth every penny. COLOR: I had color done once by Stacey. We had some serious miscommunication about what I was looking for and it was so far off that before Severn even finished cutting my hair, it was clear something needed to be done. Stacey is very sweet and fixed it no questions asked. I was ecstatic with the results and her recommendation for a shampoo to prolong the vivid color. The only trouble I've had is that on part of my hair, she put in highlight color, and walked off to shampoo someone else. I didn't realize it for a while, but those parts of my hair were so damaged that when I colored next, it disproportionately absorbed the dye and my hair was a complete disaster. I had to go unnecessarily dark to cover it up. I believe she is normally very talented, and this was a mistake that was part communication and part carelessness on an overbooked Saturday. I would go to her again for a single process color or if she was not as busy.

The only reason I can't give Maxine a 5 is because it is pricey. I guess it's not their fault - it's the neighborhood - I just wish I weren't so addicted to Bob. Not only does he always give me a great haircut (and is mindful of the fact that I'm not coming back every 6 weeks or buying $100 worth of product), but I have a HUGE crush on him.

Talented staff with great attitudes. Becca freshened up my bob, Tina gave me beautiful, warm, high & lowlights, and Rivkah gave me a sleek blowout. Everyone there seems so friendly & genuinely accommodating. Also, they're really good at reading you, i.e. they won't yap your ear off when you're tired & just want to bury your face in a magazine. I think I've found my new salon.

Ilove, love, love Maxine Salon
I love, love, love Maxine Salon. I left my old salon and and have finally found the perfect fit. The whole staff is awesome. Stacie not only corrected my hair color, but made my blond strands shimmer and glisten. She is amazing!! Definitely see Julianne for a great cut. I felt like a new person when I walk out.

Over the past few years I have been in SEVERAL weddings and have had SEVERAL awful up-do's. But, the girls at Maxine did such a great job with the wedding I was in. Becca, Elizabeth, Bridget and Adrianne made sure we all were looking fabulous and I don't think a single hair moved out of place the whole night! We all will definitely back as regulars!!! Adored this salon.
Adored this salon. Decided to try somewhere new recently (because I didn't want to explain to my normal hairdresser why I wasn't pregnant anymore, not because I didn't like him), and this place was perfect. Many top notch stylists and colorists who have been featured/quoted in fashion and beauty mags made me think it would be hard to get an appointment. I was surprised to have the phone answered by a human being (see my review of Mario Tricoci) and to get an appointment with only a couple days' notice. Very posh feeling to the salon, but friendly, down to earth folks working there. Less pricey than I would expect at $70 each for cut and single process color. My stylist spent a lot of time and care on my haircut and made tweaks to get my angled bob to sit just perfectly. I definitely plan to go back.

This place is incredible.
This place is incredible. I get my haircut with Bob, and he's fantastic. It's such a joy to get a haircut! The colorists are so talented as well...I have had Jasen color my hair and he's dynamite. The salon is beautiful inside and always busy...so you know they are doing something right. It is more expensive than most salons, even in the downtown area, but you get what you pay for, and it is very much worth it!

I absolutely love this salon.
I absolutely love this salon. Their employees are so professional, but not snobby, which seems to be the case at a lot of Chicago salons. Maria and Sanda are excellent stylists and Nella is a perfectionist if you want an awesome mani or pedi. They have valet so you don't have to kill yourself looking for parking. Rates are comparable to other high-end salons in the city. I highly recommend this place!

Just after reading these reviews I called and booked an appointment. They were able to get me in the same day and I was surprised to have been in and out of the salon in one hour with no wait. Elizabeth cut my hair and SHE IS AWESOME. Absolutely love it., she is very professional and did a wonderful job with layering my thick long hair. Definetely worth the price.

Josh and Patricia are the BEST
I have been seeing Josh for my highlights and Patricia for my cuts for almost 2 years and I have never been disappointed. When you walk into the salon you are greeted by very friendly staff who direct you towards a room where you can put your coats and other belongings. You are then directed towards the comfortable waiting area where they provide coffee, tea, water, etc. and good magazines to read. I have never waited longer than 15 minutes for my stylists. Both of the stylists I see are very professional. Josh is extremely sweet and friendly. When I give him an idea of how I want my hair to look he always listens intently and gives me exactly what I was hoping for. Now when I go and see him I just ask him to to do something that would look good and it always turns out perfectly. Patricia is very talented and fun. I have never been disappointed by my haircuts, they are always perfectly executed and they look great with my type of hair. I went in one time hoping for a cut that would be fun and easy to take care of, and she went above and beyond my expectations. Maxine salon is very versatile, everyone will have a great experience!

Would never consider anywhere else!
I have been going here for at least 10 years. I go to Elizabeth for cut and Jasen for color. They are both amazing at what they do and so much fun to be around. Jasen is great whether you want to take risks and go for an edgy hip dye job or keep it natural looking and blend well. He does not over process your hair either, which has always been a concern of mine, especially since I swim and have chlorine build up in my hair. Elizabeth is amazing with her shears! She too can give you an edgy hair cut with the newest of techniques, cut it conservatively, or combine the two. She knows the products well, so don't be shy to ask what products to go home with and how to use them. I love to see her and gossip, she is so much fun!! The shop was remodeled last year, it's hip and fun. The music is great, they actually have worked over time to collect everyones' music and import it to mix different genres, giving a little bit of everything with in reason to please everyone. The products are amazing as I was addressing before. They are a Loreal color flagship, they carry Kerastase and Shu Umera products. I am also a huge fan of their skin care line True. It is expensive, I mean considerably expensive, so I tend to go quarterly. But, I consider it worth every dime. Great shop, would never consider anywhere else!

Amy is an amazing stylist. You get EXACTLY what you asked for. I have had her cut my hair in three extremely different styles. They were all perfectly done. I usually come armed with several photos because I believe they convey more than my decriptive language would.

i have to give 5 stars for the manicure/pedicure services i have had at maxine, i have never gotten my hair done here (see my Palazzolo's review and then you'll know why). it's not cheap for a mani/pedi here - about $75, but i was given a gift certificate so about 2 years ago, i came in for a mani/pedi. nella has done my nails twice, and always does a great job and is very friendly (the staff is also very friendly too!) she's meticulous about her work and i never find any nics or bubbles on my nails (i am super picky about that and if there is one little nic, it will bother me until i take the polish off). the atmosphere downstairs in the spa area of the salon is very calm, they have big plushy chairs to sit in while you get your pedicure, plenty of good mags and a great selection of O.P.I and Essie nail colors. if you're willing to spend a lot for your nails, this pedicure will last a month and the manicure will last over 2 weeks (that's if you don't put your hands through heavy labor). my boss keeps giving me gift cards here, and it's convienently right by my work, so i will continue to come back, especially for special occasions.

I love this place. Everyone is so friendly--not snooty like a lot of upscale salon employees. I recommend Josh for color. He is the only colorist I've ever been to that understands exactly what I want to do with my color--and I've been to a lot of salons. He's also got a delicious southern accent and good sense of style. And I recommend Bob for your cut. Again, understands what I want and has NEVER left me traumatized and I am really picky and weird about my hair. He's handsome in a classic way and extremely charismatic. This place rules.

I am sooo happy with how this salon treated me
I love the work Loreal does on Project Runway and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style (hell, in the latter show, the hair makes twice the difference the clothes do!) so when I saw that Maxine was a flagship Loreal salon I decided to try it. My stylist was really friendly, fun to talk to, told me all about Chicago since I was new to it. I told her I wanted a clean, neat, professional haircut that's easy to maintain. When I left it was flirty and messy/sexy and curly - that look is great sometimes, and it was definitely cute, but that was the exact opposite of what I asked for, since I had a job interview soon. I had a feeling that I might have to call the salon and ask them to redo it, but I figured it might look better after I washed and styled it myself. So I tipped well anyway, since she was nice and took a lot of time and care with my cut. Anyway, when I got home and washed and redid my hair, I saw that I hated it . I couldn't even get it to look slightly as cute as it did after my haircut. Plus, "cute" wasn't the look I was going for anyway. I called the salon director, and merely told her that I wasn't happy with my cut. I didn't have to bitch or complain or even use a firm voice. She was very professional and friendly - she told me to come in, and that she would give me her best stylist, and that I wouldn't be charged. She also told not to tip again. When I went back, there was zero attitude from anyone. Everyone was just as nice as they were the first time. I was given Elizabeth, and she was great. I love my haircut - I do nothing with it, and it just falls into place. I wasn't planning to tip again (the salon director insisted that I don't), but I loved the haircut so much I had to. I am sooo happy with how this salon treated me. I wish all salons were this professional and friendly and responsible. They've definitely earned me as a regular customer, and I've continued coming here for my haircuts (when I can afford it). The cool thing is that they listen to me and give me a low maintenance cut when I ask for one. And the haircut always looks *better* with each wash - I walk out with a nice haircut, and then each time I wash my hair the look actually improves. That's what's so awesome about their cuts - they give you a cut that knows how to grow. I had a manicure recently with Ella, and it was perfect - I came home and did the dishes, and then mopped. Three days later, I still had perfect nails. She's very careful about details.

Hair cuts are second to none
I am a black woman and have been going to Maxine's for over 8 years. Amy cuts my hair and takes her time and does it right. Tina colors me and really warms up the tones in my hair. I have had other services done here including manicures, pedicures, and waxes. Those are great, but the hair cuts are second to none. Great salon for black and white customers. Timely, clean, cutting edge salon!

If you want THE best colorist ask for Patrick Ryan. I followed him through 3 hair salons because no one is as talented as Patrick. He has a great eye for color, really knows his products, and is very conscientious. I never felt rushed and always felt fully confident in his judgment. I moved from Chicago 8 months ago and am still trying to find someone nearly as good as Patrick.

Stylist Adrienne ROCKS!
I was in town for a wedding and on my concierge's recommendation, went to Maxine for a blowout/style. I'm always wary of new stylists but I had absolutely nothing to fear. Adrienne is the BEST stylist I've ever met, and that includes my regular stylist at home in San Francisco. She worked her magic and my hair turned out voluminous and full while still soft and swingy. She also added some subtle waves....a touch of tasteful GLAM. She really listened to what I wanted and totally exceeded my expectations. She is AWESOME!!! Front desk staff was a little aloof and snooty, but I was so happy with my hair I didn't care. Thanks, Adrienne! I wish you lived in San Francisco! * Pros: Adrienne, the best stylist in the world. If you're looking for a great colorist I would highly recommend Patrick. He really cares about his clients and knows how to make you look your best. Patrick has great taste and really knows his craft. I've continued to go to him for years because he does a great job and I completely trust him.

I went to this salon for the first time to get my hair hilighted by robert. I left with my hair looking brighter and much more natural. Although the prices are high their is no pressre to add on more services or products. Beautiful salon, robert is highly recommended. * Pros: colorist, service, valet parking

I got a gift card here for graduation. First time there, loved the place! Totally cool music and the place is so contempo..They used this pink shampoo stuff which made my hair soft (Keratas?) Also, got a facial. Getting rid of my gross blackheads hurtr, but my face was glowing when it was over. * Pros: good service

Jamie - Best BRAZILLIAN WAX IN CHICAGO
Jamie is the best brazillian waxer in Chicago. I have been to many of the "quote" best waxers in Chicago and none compare to the experience that I had with Jamie at Maxine's. She is super fast, virtually painless, precise (no stray hairs), completely entertaining and professional.

great cut and color
I was looking for a new salon and a friend told me about Maxine. Tina colored my hair and I love the highlights and lowlights she put in it. Brigette did a total new cut on me and i have never loved my hair more. I will tell any one who is looking for a new salon to go here. * Pros: valet, good service

Elizabeth is the bomb!!!
I live in the boondocks now, and was looking for a good cut-Thank goodness I read In Style magazine and found a miracle worker-Elizabeth. She really knows how to cut hair. I also had the pleasure of meeting Maxine herself and she is so sweet and unassuming-Love this place!!!

And I used to hate everything!!!
I really did. I hated going to get my hair done because I never really like what other people do to my hair. So one day a friend of mine told me about Maxine's. I decided to give it a try and I'll be honest this was the first time I have EVER left a salon happy and didn't want to go home right away to cry or try to redo my own hair. I saw Brooke for my color and FINALLY someone listened to me and got it right. Although they are doing some construction, you really don't even notice it. I finally have a place to recommend and trust me when I recommend something people listen because I really don't recommend anything. Thank you again Brooke and I look forward to my touch-up. * Pros: listened to me, extremely nice, great atmosphere

My Favorite Salon
I love Maxine! From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed and at ease. This is not a snooty gold coast salon by any means! Everything I've had done...incredible haircuts from Amy, golden blonde highlights with Jasen, a deep tissue massage with Lynne, has been a positive experience. They're so nice here and everyone seems to be the best at what they do. And I've checked out a lot of salons. I go here for everything now, including facials, waxing and manicures. Kari even helped my peeling nails grow out! * Pros: spa on separate floor, knowledgeable staff, evening hours

great place for hair
I love Bridgette. She gives a great cut everytime and is completely affordable. I would definitely recommend her. As for manicures, I will not be going back. My nails weren't evenly trimmed, the french manicure was messy, and the polish was not applied evenly.

Couldn't be happier
I went to Josh for my color and I couldn't be happier. These are the best blond highlights I've ever had!! He actually listened to what I wanted and gave me some helpful ideas that would make it look even better. I'm telling everyone I know to go to him.

Never Disappointed
Every time I enter Maxines I get excited. Why because I know I will leave looking better than I did the time before. Becca is an absolute doll always surprising me. I use to be the person with the magazines saying I love that or how about this. Now I sit in her chair and say whatever you think will be fine. Color is also a no brainer with Jasen, he stops for a minute asks a couple questions asks if I have any ideas on what I would like to see and takes it from there. I never had such a relaxing experience at a salon. Well worth the money and well worth the time. Check out is also a breeze. The receptionist are always polite and always there to help if you need it. Dont let me forget Cristina fabulous at waxing and facials a pure delight. * Pros: valet parking, service, atmosphere * Cons: closed on mondays

Robert and Amy rock
I have been going to Maxine for my entire life. My mother started with Maxine about 20 years ago and we have followed her to over 3 locations. While it took me awhile to find my perfect stylist I am very very happy now. Robert is very good for my color, though if you're looking for something shocking you'd be better visiting a salon on Belmont. They aim for more natural looking color though I have gotten him to do pink streaks before. Amy is the best stylist I have ever had. I'll never forget my first time with her, I decided to cut my long hair very short. She was thrilled at the idea and it turned out amazing. She has a great personality and we always have a great time. The haircuts she gives me are always complimented by my friends, coworkers and even people on the street.

I have had many services here and I don't think I have ever been disappointed. Not only do I regularly get manicures and pedicures, I also use the salon. The stylists are great and always running on time. I had my hair and nails done on my wedding day- and they made it very special. They fit my entire wedding party in at the last minute and made sure we had a wonderful time.

I wish that I could take Rae home in my pocket and whip her out to keep me looking salon fresh everyday. She is undoubtly the best Polish lady with a Hispanic last name who does wonders with African-American hair! I have been with Maxine ever since she took the best talent from Sassoon's and struck out on her own!

Awesome Atmosphere

Great Experience
I had a fabulous experience here. I got my color done by Tina and my hair cut by Aimiee. Both were unbelivable. Tina listened to every word that I had to say and worked with me to get exactly the look I wanted. Aimiee did not make one cut to my hair until she looked at exactly what I already had (layers, lenght, ect) and explained to me in full of what she wanted to do. Once I agreed to the plan she went on her way to giving me an excellent haircut. The place is clean and the people are so nice. I will be returning. * Pros: Nice Staff, Clean, Talented Individuals
