As a student in Chicago, I always get my hair cut when I am home in Los Angeles. However, I was craving something drastic, so I went to Bob at Maxine to cut my hair. He did a great job balancing the drastic cut I wanted with what would work with my hair. I have only grown to love my hair more as it has grown!

After going to Mario Tricoci for a year and always leaving disappointed, a friend of mine recommended Maxine. I am extremely picky about my hair color, and the colorist I was seeing could never get it right...no matter how much I tried to explain my highlight preferences. I finally had enough and called Maxine. They were able to get me in the next day with Leslie. Leslie knew that I was coming in because I was unhappy and that I needed my color fixed. We talked and I told what I didn't like about my hair. She told me that she understood my problem and explained to me what she was going to do to fix it. Voila! Perfection the first time! I have been going to see her ever since. Knowing my preferences, the last time saw her she recommended balayage for my highlights. I had it done last week, and I have never been happier! My hair looks fantastic and completely natural! Leslie is a miracle worker. Some other things I love about Maxine...First, the staff is so nice and remembers you. Second, there is no pressure to sell you product. Either you want it or you don't. If you say no, it's no big deal and they don't bring it up again.

i went to see Bob a few weeks ago. I had not had a good haircut in a long long time and my dad and Bob are friends so my dad suggested I go see him at Maxine's. Seriously the best haircut I ever got. He took off a good amount of length which made my hair really healthy but it doesn't look that much shorter. I was really happy with it and the styling after was amazing too. I went to meet up with a friend after and she didn't even recognize me it looked so good. Thanks Bob!

I've always loved getting my hair cut and mixing it up with color, but I've had trouble finding a good spot since I've moved from California. After a couple of bad experiences I actually stopped getting my hair done in Chicago at all and would just wait to get it done during my frequent trips back to Cali. It's been seven going on eight years now, and I've FINALLY found a place (and more importantly people) that I love going to. Jasen (for color) - Jasen is wonderful. He really listens to what I want, and he's one of the first colorists that I feel like understands the "language" of non-colorists (ie if I don't use the technical term he doesn't correct me or turn me a wonky color). My issue has always been that I like changing my hair a lot, and that I'm more interested in it turning out fabulous than exactly like the magazine page I ripped out (what looks good on Jessica Alba might not look so hot on me!). I always thought that would make me a dream-client: I sit down and I want suggestions and am open to anything non-green, but I always seem to get a blank stare as a response. Jasen has given me some really fun looks while making sure that I'm comfortable and not going outside my comfort zone (ie I don't get fired!). He is always very clear about exactly what he is doing and why, so there are never any surprises. He never disappoints! Bob (for cut) - Bob is such a character (in a great way!!). He is really fun to talk to and really focuses on what looks good. I am the first to admit that I have a huge paranoia about people lopping off my hair. Bob put me completely at ease and has given me great results every time I've gone (4-5 times at the time of this review). He manages to keep my length while still mixing things up to pacify my hair ADD. He also does these head massages that are AMAZING! Chills, every time. He has a wealth of information about products and tips, and shares them freely without being pushy. The salon itself is nice and I really appreciate that a couple of days a week they have after-work hours so that I can go straight from work. All of the staff has been very friendly, and they have some yummy flavored teas worth checking out.

I fly for good hair! Theresa and Diana at Maxine's are the best stylist/colorist combination a girl could ask for. I am originally from Chicago and currently live in Boulder, Colorado. Theresa and Diana had been doing my hair for years before I moved and I could not break up with this fantastic hair duo despite my new location. I come into town often and take advantage of being there to get my hair done by Theresa and Diana. They always accomodate my hectic schedule and keep my hair looking fantastic.

I heart Bob. I'm not afraid to say it. When you walk in to a hair salon, you want to walk out feeling fabulous and polished. Bob has never ever let me down. The salon itself doesn't give me the warm fuzzies (it's fine, but as others have mentioned, a tad sterile), and it's definitely pricey. HOWEVER, Bob takes his time to understand what I'm looking for, gets to know my random hair quirks, and manages to consistently create flattering cuts for my face shape. Really, what more do you need?

A wonderful place. For absolutely fabulous Highlights ask for Robert. I went in with horrible looking, orangey, washed out highlights and Robert turned THAT into gorgeous, buttery, natural highlights. And for a really cute, modern cut ask for Rivkah. Needless to say everyone at that place was super nice and professional. You will enjoy the visit. I am not going anywhere else from now on.

Aaron David. That's who you should go to if you want a true professional working on your hair--even moreso if you have (or want) a short/pixie/asymmetrical hair style. (I do, so that's the perspective I'm writing from.) I ended up at Maxine because I followed my previous stylist (Reese) there from another salon, but when Reese moved out of state, he gave Aaron a very high recommendation. I'd been seeing Reese for years and trusted his opinion, so I gave Aaron a shot and I could not be happier. The rest of the staff at Maxine is awesome too; I like the atmosphere and the staff is upbeat and friendly. I don't like to give much direction (I'm not the professional, they are), so I usually just tell Aaron to do whatever he wants to my hair. That's when he does his best work and I have never once been disappointed; in fact, my hair keeps getting cooler every time I go to him, and people on the street comment on it constantly. Aaron does take direction well, though, if you have specific preferences (I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to those who have something specific in mind). I hear he also does great men's cuts, which wouldn't surprise me at all. Aaron has repeatedly impressed me with his work and he deserves all the credit for all the compliments I get. Go to him. Tell him I sent you. (Haha.)

I was looking for a new salon since the girl I always went to before never did anything special with my hair despite repeated requests for something new. As soon as I walked into Maxine I knew this would be a different experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and I felt immediately comfortable. Bob met me at the waiting room rather quickly and took me up to his window seat styling station. He immediately made me confident that this would be a special haircut and that he would make my long stringy flat hair look like "movie star hair". He absolutely delivered. In the past hair stylists have spent about 10 minutes max cutting my hair and gave me a quick blow dry then shoved me out the door. Bob spent 30+ minutes cutting my hair with extreme finesse and also explained what he was doing and why throughout the entire process. He gave me a wonderful shampoo message and an even better head message after the cut! Then he gave me one of his famous blow outs and talked me through it so I could repeat it myself. He didn't oversell products to me that I didn't need but did suggest one or two when I was ready to try them. My hair looks and feels beautiful and I've gotten a million compliments. He gave me an anything but ordinary cut and for that I am very thankful. 100% worth paying more than usual for my haircut- Bob is fantastic! Don't settle for average hair-- go see Bob at Maxine!

Just got the best haircut ever-- went yesterday and my long hair which used to lay pretty flat is now full of life and looks amazing. Thor is the sweetest man and such a great stylist-- I left myself in his hands and he brought my hair back to life. Could not be happier.

If you have Asian hair and need to look professional, Severn is definitely the stylist for you. I have tried many other salons in Chicago and I keep running back to Severn to fix my hair. For the past three and a half years I have been going to him for cute, business-appropriate cuts and he always delivers. It's always the highlight of my week and I never cease to get compliments.

Chicago is the sixth city of my career and, believe me, the scariest thing about relocation is finding the new hair colorist. But, blonde highlights should be pretty de rigeur these days, right? Wrong. My hair catastrophes could fill two more posts. Alas, I discovered Jason and he truly is an artist with blonde--plus an entertaining and sweet soul, as well. Only to be matched by the precise hair cuts and masterful blowouts of Hans. I feel like JLo when he's done! And, Maxine has even stopped by for some owner-love. Bliss. I would be there every week if not for the prices. A little steep for the working girl...exhale, exhale, it's only every six weeks. The only reason for a 4- and not 5- star. Premium salon in every regard.

I have never dyed my hair before, and I went in thinking I would want my whole hair colored. I spoke with Tracey, and told her what I wanted, and she recommended highlights. I thought I would have never just wanted highlights, but I went with her advice, and I love my hair! It turned out exactly how I wanted it too, it is natural, but different and lighter. Perfect. I will definitely be going back to Tracey for future hair colorings.

I went to see Aaron based on the review in InStyle magazine from this fall. I have medium length hair and wanted him to fix layers I received in a previous cut from another salon. He did an amazing job with layering my hair! He put more layers in to blend it. I absolutely love the layers! He cut my hair so that I can wear it with any part and it won't look lop-sided.

If you are looking for a superb haircut in the Chicagoland area, look no further! I only get haircuts maybe twice a year, and I am so glad I chose to go to Maxine! After reading all the reviews on Yelp, I knew that I could trust this salon. Evan Roberts was extremely professional and courteous and was able to direct me to exactly the hair style that I wanted. I came in with long, Rapunzel-length hair and left with a beautifully styled long-layered cut. I'm very attached to my long hair, and he listened to my request to keep my length as much as possible. Evan answered any questions I had about how to style my hair and taught me how to dry and style my hair at home without the use of a thousand products and in minimal time. Also, his shampoo was hands-down one of the best parts of the Maxine experience! I highly recommend Maxine Salon and Evan Roberts!

Whether I've wanted to go for a shorter shoulder length cut or long layers that I can wear straight or with waves, he always delivers the cuts perfectly. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

This is specifically for bridal/bridesmaid hair so not terribly useful, but we had such a wonderful experience here I had to rave. Sanda did my hair for my wedding and really knows her stuff. She created the most beautiful hairstyle that didn't budge all night. My hair was the only thing I was worried about all day, and the minute she finished I knew I had nothing to worry about. I got so many compliments on it all night and I'm so grateful to her for really listening to me and taking the time to make it right. Additionally, we had about 13 other chairs occupied with everyone from my 11-year-old flowergirl to my 75-year-old grandmother, and every single woman looked exceptional. My bridesmaids' updos were lovely and stayed put all night, and all the blowouts were on point. I'm so glad we went to Maxine on a friend's recommendation - if I lived in Chicago it would be my go-to salon!

Had an appointment with Aaron David after reading a recommendation in Instyle Magazine. Drove 150 miles for the appointment, treated myself on the 1st anniversary of my retirement! I arrived about 30 minutes early & took advantage of salon's valet parking service. I was greeted immediately & escorted to waiting area & offered refreshment. I only waited @ 3 minutes & Aaron introduced himself & escorted me to his station. I gave him carte blanche with my hair. About 75 minutes later I was finished with a very stylish layered cut. I don't know how Aaron did it but my family said my hair actually looked longer! If you aren't satisfied with your current hairdo, I suggest you call & schedule a cut & style with Aaron. You won't regret it. It was a tad pricey but really ladies, aren't you worth it?

I have been going to this salon since 2004 and am in love with Sanda as my stylist. She is the best and I always walk out feeling and looking like a million bucks. Really fantastic!!!! Robert has been my colorist for many years as well and he works wonders with Blondes. I am at the point where I barely give them direction and let them do their thing....and i am always happy. Yes Maxine is pricey, but in the very rare times I have strayed to try and find a more budget friendly stylist, I am never happy and end up back at Maxines. I believe you get what you pay for, and this place is worth every penny. The staff is amazing, love them all :). Rick and Carlos rock!

John Blue is an amazing colorist! I moved back to the Chicago area from NY and am so happy I was able to locate him here at Maxine because I used to go to him at Trio. He has great ideas and chooses the perfect color blends for your skin type. Aaron David is a top stylist there that just cut my husband's hair and he's very happy with the results. I'm looking forward to booking an appt with him to work on my long tresses. =)

Bob: The Best!! (and NO I am not his mother or sister), I found this salon while looking for a new hair stylist and while googling like a mad woman I came upon Maxine's. I am so glad I did! Everyone was very friendly and the salon was clean and inviting. I have been going to Chic salon in Palos Park and previously gone to Mario (total waste of $ there now days), Chic is great but I just felt like I needed a new pair of eyes to evaluate my hair. I had color done with Tracey Mangers, she was very good and very friendly. The color turned out beautiful. Then I moved on to Bob who turned out to be the highlight of my visit. He is sooo funny and it felt like time flew in his chair. He listened to every issue I had with my style (angled bob with some crazy cowlicks) and gave me his opinions and even showed me step-by-step how to blow dry it just like he did. H e also gave the BEST head massage ever!!!! How nice to actually be able to relax while getting a hair cut with someone new when I was so nervous about how it would turn out. He has years and years of experience and it shows with the precision and attention he gives to even the smallest details. My cut is absolutely gorgeous!! I haven't laughed so much in such a long time, thank you Bob, I will definitely be back! (maybe we can do those cornrows Bob... ; p ) Amanda~

Dani is someone that I could only trust. I really feel lucky that I could find someone take care my hair in Chicago. Being at Chicago for 1 year half as a international student, I must say that it is not easy to find a hair designer could trust. But Dani really know ehat I like. I've lived in Chicago almost 4 years now and have been trying salon after salon to find a place that really gets it right. I have long, fine, straight hair and it's very easy for it to look super flat and lfieless. I usually end up leaving a salon feeling like I didn't get what I wanted or asked for. I usually feel like I'm talked into something I don't want or told it's not possible to do what I'm asking for. Theresa is Absolutely the Best! I have had my hair cut by Theresa Tufte for over a decade and of course followed her when she moved to Maxine's. I really like the classy and friendly atmosphere at Maxine's, which is thankfully missing the unpleasant drama of the once great Trio salon, where she had been at previously. Despite my somewhat perfectionist nature, Theresa has always exceeded my standards. She is a true professional. Recently, I have been dealing with some health challenges that have affected my hair. Theresa went out of her way, spending extra time working with me, not only adjusting my cut, but also giving me some pointers on how to blow dry and style my hair to accentuate the positive. I cannot say enough good things about her. She may at first appear serious - as she is always intent on creating an excellent cut - so a new client might be unaware initially, that she can also be light hearted and fun depending on the conversation. Besides being a great stylist, she has a truly caring personality. I highly recommend her. I started working with Tracy after I followed Theresa to Maxine's. She not only does a great color, she has a very warm, upbeat and kind personality. She really is a joy to go to. I have been delighted with my results.

I've been getting my hair cut by Aaron for four years now and I have never been disappointed. I followed him to Maxine's and love the salon. It is very modern and clean, everyone there is always very helpful and friendly. Aaron is so great at cutting my short hair. It's always feminine and cute. I had to start carrying his card to give out to people who would ask me where I got my hair cut. I pretty much sit down in the chair and tell him to do what he wants to my hair and I am always so pleased with the results.

I had a really good experience at Maxine a few weeks back. I scheduled an appointment to get a single process and hair cut. I ended up getting a full head balyage, instead of a single process. I'm very happy with the color done by Stacie. I brought in a few pictures of the style of coloring that I wanted and she did it. It's not easy working with dark brown hair without making it look very fake and streaky blond! My hair was cut by Aaron. Again, I brought in a few pictures of what I wanted and he was able to take what I wanted and make it work the best way possible with my hair. If I ever desire a very short hair style, I'm going to trust him with the scissors! He didn't mind going back in and snipping wherever I thought it needed it to make it look the way I wanted. I felt no rush to get out of the chair and be hurried along because the cut was essentially completed. That, in my books, is a good indicator of going back for future cuts or styles :)

I had my first haircut and style on Saturday with Hans at Maxine. Hans was very attentive, friendly and focused on providing me with a haircut that I would love. I have long hair that was getting a bit heavy and Hans trimmed it and cut in some nice layers to add shape and volume. I'm a happy client and will certainly return!

Maxine is lovely. I have been twice now, and I enjoy the decor and the folks at registration are very welcoming. But, this review is all about Aaron! I followed Aaron David from his previous salon. I've been seeing Aaron for around five years now and he is truly awesome. My hair is just curly enough to be a real pain in the a**, and I have always ALWAYS worn it very long. Aaron has consistently given me updated excellent cuts that made styling my hair a breeze (which is great because I have gotten consistently lazier with the styling since becoming a mother a couple of years ago.) He listens to my requests to not cut certain areas because of my weird quirks (Hey, I don't like my ears, ok?). And, now thanks to Aaron's top notch abilities, he has converted my hair from long and layered to a great shattered bob. I cannot tell you the number of complements I get on a daily basis!! If you are looking for a stylist that is meticulous, that really listens, and that will just make you look great -- go see Aaron!

I have always had long hair. That, however, was not practical when I moved to Chicago and the heat nearly killed me. It was time to get rid of em'. I went to Maxine and was so impressed. Everyone was friendly and my stylist, Cliff, was on time and so nice. Not only that, but the cut looks FANTASTIC. He took time with me, made sure everything was what I wanted every step of the way. I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend Cliff. Such a great guy and a fantastic stylist!

I'm extremely picky about my hair, so I feel like I've tried half the salons in Chicago trying to find the best one. I was almost always unhappy with the result of my cuts and blow-outs... and then I came across Hans at Maxine's. He is AMAZING. I have never had another stylist as consistently excellent as Hans. I've had maybe 20 blowouts from him and a dozen haircuts -- each one has been perfect. An added bonus is the fact that he's someone you actually want to spend time with because he's fun and interesting. I have very thick hair and he's the only stylist I know who makes it bouncy and slightly wavy and gorgeous. Most stylists get really lazy with thick hair or else have no idea how to handle it -- they just take a flat-iron and make my hair stick straight (thanks, but I can just flat-iron my hair myself). Hans really takes his time to get it exactly right... the kind of blow-out that's impossible for me to replicate myself... and therefore, worth the money! Can't recommend Hans enough. The salon itself is pretty great-- I believe the owner's husband is an architect and designed the space. Le Corbusier leather sofas and chairs... clean, white, modern interior. Friendly front desk staff, and valets who can run out to get a taxi for you in the rain (essential!).

Serious talent at Maxine I switched to Maxine when my colorist Tracey moved over there. Tracey is outstanding - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. She's creative, collaborative, and great to talk to. She pays great attention to detail and is totally on top of her game. She does a great blonde (highlights) for me but I have friends who see her for other colors. I also recommend Evan for cut - he also does a great job. Also really attentive and great customer service. My cut is long and layered. Overall, Maxine is a great salon. Everyone there is friendly and approachable yet the atmosphere feels upscale.

I had a bad cut from Supercuts and so I went to a fancy $90/cut salon and had a bad cut there too!! I saw Maxine's on Rush St and on a whim walked in and saw a woman at the cashier sporting the cut I wanted, a straight precision cut on fine hair. I asked who cut her hair, "Cliff Freeman". He does a GREAT job for $50, he's cut my hair 2x's now, I even brought in a small synthetic hairpiece that I bought and he cut that too!! I highly recommend him, great cut and blow dry, all for $50! He does a great job!

I have been going to Maxine's Salon for more than ten years. Amy is AMAZING, and I will never leave her. Yes, the haircuts are expensive, but she is totally worth it. I tried going to another, less expensive salon once, and hated it. I will never stray from Amy again. I highly recommend her for Japanese straightening or a hair cut. She is also so sweet with a really great sense of style.

Blue and Aaron are hands down the best colorist and stylist in Chicago. I've been a loyal follower for over 5 years and am very excited about their new home at Maxine! The salon is chic and everyone is very friendly. Blue is always ahead of the curve when it comes to coloring and I always take his suggestions and am never disappointed. He is beyond amazing and has such an incredible personality - I always look forward to my visits with him! Aaron is incredibly talented as well. He always gives the best haircuts and provides me with great suggestions for maintaining and styling my hair after I leave the salon. He also provides me with excellent recommendations to update my hair style and I have never been disappointed. Blue and Aaron are truly amazing!

I took advantage of a Groupon to get my hair cut by Bob. When I called to schedule an appointment I was recommended to see him after mentioning that I have fine hair. The place itself is really nice and modern and for such an upscale salon I was surprised by how kind everyone was. It's also not too bad of a walk from Union Station. Bob was really kind and chatty. I came in not really knowing what I wanted; I just told him that I liked having bangs and gave him a range for the length I was considering and let him decide what would work best. I'm really happy the with result and would highly recommend anyone seeing Bob!

On a whim, I scheduled a cut/color with Theresa Tufte/Diana Mildice while friends shopped!... Wow. The color was rich and beautiful, and the cut, the best I've had in years, maybe ever. I can go 5 days without washing it and it remains shiny and with lovely layers, falling beautifully. I don't have to use much if any product anymore, nor tools, which is a dream for me because I didn't do a very good job anyway. Now, I have taken to rearranging my schedule to go back every 3-4 months because that kind of service is worth it. Diana actually wrote her color "recipe" down for me for my stylist back home (no one EVER does that!) but I decided to just leave it in her expert hands. I have gotten more compliments on that cut/color, it's uncanny. The salon is light and airy and with a very energetic vibe. Maxine always comes by to say hello and check in. The first time I went, I actually returned 3-4 hours later because I forgot to apply my yelp discount, and the young woman looked up and addressed me by name! My salon at home still, after 4 years, asks me who I am and who I am there to see.....the customer service at Maxine is unbelievable.

I have been getting my hair cut with Theresa Tufte and colored with Diana Mildice since 1997 and couldn't be happier. Over the past 14 years I've followed them to a few different salons because I wouldn't dare let someone else touch my hair. They're absolutely GREAT at what they do and have such a loyal following because of it. In addition, they are the perfect resource to ask about products or services that you have been curious about. They won't try to sell you anything you don't need and are forthcoming in their advice. I don't know what I'd do without these lovely girls.

I was recently in Chicago for a wedding and went to Maxine Salon due to the great reviews on Yelp and because it was near my hotel. I saw Lisette for a blow out and she did an amazing job. She took her time, asked many questions about my hair type, what kind of products I normally use, etc. before she started my shampoo. My hair came out beautifully and lasted for a long time, even in bad weather. The charge was $65 for the blowout with some curling iron action but it was worth it :)

Maxine is fabulous, the kind of upscale salon you expect to find in a city like Chicago. I used the Yelp deal (50% off color & cut with Tracey and Shelly for first time customers), and was blown away at the deal. The salon itself is beautiful. After waiting a few minutes upstairs I met Tracey who took me back to her station. She was VERY attentive to what I wanted, and made sure that we were both on the same page. While Tracey worked on my color Shelly came in to meet me & find out what I wanted for my cut. While I waited to rinse my color out I had a glass of white wine & indulged in their impression selection of (current) magazines. After my color Shelly trimmed, shaped AND gave me a beautiful blowout. The end result was awesome! My hair is a beautiful rose-gold like strawberry blonde, and my hair had perfect layers. I now understand why they're known for their celebrity cliental. The best part is, for being such an upscale salon they're incredibly friendly & warm. It might be on the pricey side, but I couldn't be happier with my experience at Maxine. I'll definitely be back.

In all my years, I have never had a better colorist than Tracy, she is fabulous, I literally sit in the chair and ask her what she thinks and she works her magic. I trust her and her knowledge of hi lites, low lites, single process, etc..is above and beyond. I am always complimented by my friends and family on my color and have even been stopped by perfect strangers more than once to ask who colors my hair!! I live in Florida and travel quite often to Chicago for business so I am fortunate enough to always have my hair color maintained by Tracy, I would never let anyone but Tracy color my hair and no one has for 8 years!!

Love my Shelly Aguirre!....I have shorter hair & always looking for a new hip refresh.......Shelly listens & gives me the latest look Now that it is summer, I am finding I don't always have the time to finish styling & my hair still looks great! I highly recommend Shelly for a hot look & her professionalism!

I have truly been blessed by the hair gods. Not in the sense that I was born with beautiful hair, but that I've been very lucky to sit in the chairs of some of Chicago's most talented, in-demand stylists and colorists. Maxine's Amy and Tina are as good as it gets IMO. About 10 years ago when I first moved to Chicago I randomly walked in a salon on Rush. Fortunately for me, the salon was Maxine, and the cut was fantastic. I would have been back, but soon thereafter I started working at Harpo Studios and using Oprah's employee spa, as well as taking recommendations from producers for stylists around town. Those ladies know their stuff--I ended up in the hands of some of the city's best hairdressers. For awhile I was going to Michael Jacobson at Michael & Michael, who is extraordinarily talented, and Shane Talbott for color, who is fantastic as well. I may have been with them forever if I hadn't decided to call up Amy to find out more about thermal straightening. I still remember our first phone conversation because she answered my questions about thermal straightening and the keratin/Brazilian treatment so frankly and honestly. It was like she had absolutely no vested interest in my patronage and just enjoyed answering all my questions as a public service or something. I think she even recommended I see someone in Florida instead (where I was vacationing at the time.) Possibly the best sales technique ever, because in an industry where you can encounter so much b.s., I knew I had to meet this woman and immediately called to schedule an appointment. Do you usually hear the Charlie Brown teacher noise whenever someone in a salon or spa starts talking about services or products? "Wahn wahn wahn wahn, here's some more junk for the drawers in your bathroom." This is not the case with Amy at all...you'll find yourself hanging on to her every word. I'm sure she's great to talk to about movies or vacation plans or whatever, too, but I love spending the time picking her brain about hair. There's a Picasso quote, "My mother said to me, if you're a soldier, you will become a general. If you're a priest, you will be Pope. Instead I was a painter, and I became Picasso." If Picasso had been a hairdresser, he would have grown up to be Amy or Tina at Maxine :)

I used a Groupon to go and see Bob. I chose Bob because of his years of experience and off course all the great reviews. I had never been to Maxine before and found the salon to be modern and clean and people to be welcoming and professional. When I met with Bob, he was outgoing, funny and extremely friendly. I immediately felt comfortable and we had a nice rapport. I knew exactly what I had wanted and even brought a picture of the haircut and style that I was planning to get. Lucky for Bob...and me off course that he agreed that I would indeed look good with that cut and style. Bob started off taking less and offered to take more off if I wanted, which was good, because I was fine with taking off less, and by less I mean abot 3". He also gave me shorter and more bangs. Bob was kind enough to do a deep conditioning treatment (which he no doubt convinced me to buy later...I swear he could sell ice to Eskimos) and then added some great products to my hair before he straightened and styled. I thought he did a good job. Sadly after I walked home through the wind, most of his fine work had been lost... If you can can afford to pay $100 for a haircut every 3 months, Bob is definitely the guy to see!

Shelly rocks! Shelly gave me the best cut and style! She is a true expert. I was ready for a change and she suggested the best style for my face. It really complimented my features as I had no clue. I also am a big fan of blow outs and Shelly is a true expert. I can tell the difference if the stylist knows what they are doing! My blow out lasted for days and smoothed my hair out perfectly. ( I was not blessed with straight hair).

two suggestions for anyone who wants to look and feel like a million bucks: Shelly Aguirre for a cut and Diana Mildice for color. My hair has always been my security blanket. Rain or shine, gain a few pounds or have a bad skin day, i always depend on my hair to keep me feeling confident. This is thanks to these two amazing women. I'll start with Shelly. I love love love her and what she does with my over worked, long, thick hair. I've been following her to different salons for almost 5 years now and I am so happy she is now at Maxine's! Shelly always gives me the perfect cut and unlike a lot other hair dressers i've seen she listens to what I want. Every time I have walked out of an appointment with her I feel like a bombshell and get so many compliments! Diana is an artist. When I told Shelly I wanted to go blonde about a year and a half ago she recommended me to Diana and I never looked back. I am a naturual brunette and Diana has transformed my hair into the best color it has ever been. I cannot even begin to tell you how many people have asked me where I get my color done and time and time again I recommend Diana! Now that they are both working at Maxine's I couldn't be happier! Give them a try and I promise you won't regret it

I am definitely going to Maxine's now that Shelly Aguirre is there. Shelly has been cutting and coloring my hair for the past three years and she has done a wonderful job always making sure my hair has been on trend. I have been growing my hair out and I have never had a cut where I didn't receive complements the next day! She is also really helpful in recommending the correct products for my hair so that it always looks shiny and healthy.

I was in a bind and needed to get a haircut on short notice, and found Maxine's here on Yelp. I am so thrilled I did!! Since January I have been going to Hans and I could not be happier. He makes you feel like every single strand of hair on your head is tremendously important and intelligently decides on how to make your hair work best for you. I chemically straightened my hair for nearly 6 years, because the stylists I have seen in the past, weren't able to work with my naturally curly/wavey hair. All that changed after seeing Hans. He has completely revived my hairstyle, making me look the best I have in almost a decade. I don't know where I would be if it weren't for Maxine's and especially Hans. Anyone looking for a great haircut and superior service need not to look any further!

My first time through and had Thor create a new style for me. It is fun and easy which is great for me as i am just the wash and blow dry kind. I travel through here from time to time and will definitely be stopping in again on my next trips to Chicago. Thanks for a nice and comfortable experience. The staff is awesome.

Maxine's is the place to go if you want a quality cut and style Front desk reception is great! They offered me complimentary coffee before I even asked for it. I got my hair colored by Jasen, i showed him a couple pictures and he found the perfect highlights for my natural dark brown hair and fair skin. Evan cut my hair, he is a pro with thick, wavy, frizzy hair, the layers look great Thanks guys!! I will be back before my trip to Costa RIca

If you want amazing color - see Blu. I used to work at a salon and have learned quite a bit about hair, but Blu takes his time, listens and then diagnosis your hair color, face etc. You walk out with perfection and it STAYS that way. Don't go anywhere else, don't waste your time. I have tried a ton of places around Chicago. It is telling when he gets multiple recommedations from OUTSIDE his salon. Amazing!!!!! In regards to cuts, go to Reese. Artist at work with the precision, detail and cut he gives. You feel incredibly relaxed. His work is solid and he takes the time to get to know you and cuts accordingly. Trust me on this one.

Diana and Theresa--What a Team! Just got my long, naturally curly hair cut short and hi-lited by Theresa Tufte and Diana Mildice. The consult with Theresa was great. She listed to what I was looking for and used her artistic skills and came up with a great cut that can be worn both curly and straight. Diana did not just hi-lite my hair, she hi-lited the great cut I just received. Diana uses color like a painter's palette. Both are perfectionist and compliment each others work. I love my new sexy cut and color. I'll be making a standing appointment.

A Short-haired Girl Found Her Match - Aaron David If you want a fantastic short cut with edge and style, Aaron is the man. He cuts with finesse and verve - and is a true perfectionist. People stop me on the street all the time to compliment my hair. Aaron can make angles and lines feminine and sexy - which is a real achievement.

I have attempted to write a review for Thor, my talented stylist of almost 10 years, three different times and each time they've come out sounding trite. So attempt number four starts now: Thor is the best stylist I have ever had - and this not an exaggeration because I've had more than a few! If you are looking to radically change your look he is the ONLY person to see. If you bring him a picture, or even a partially-formed idea, he will ask questions and dig deeper to figure out what "look" you are going for, put his spin on it and I promise you will end up with the most fabulous haircut you have ever had. I have been stopped on the street dozens of times - the most recent being last Saturday after he cut some seriously HOT side-swept bangs - by women demanding to know who cuts my hair. He is without a doubt, the best there is. Plus, his head massages are amazing - it's as if he is transferring all his positive peaceful vibes to you and you leave his chair feeling refreshed and fabulous. He is truly an artist and I cannot recommend him enough. He will not disappoint.

Blue is the best, bar none! I've been a devoted fan of Blue's for years, and just recently followed him to his new home, Maxine's. As most wizards wave wands, Blue's magic comes from his color brush! Blue has taken me from golden copper, to chestnut brown to my newly favorite deep copper auburn. He's laced me with baliaged highlights and has created natural dimension without hard lines or severe faux-looking streaks. I've seen so many colorists before this, and nobody seemed to get it right--until Blue. I've recently had my best friend see him as well, and she's never had so many compliments on her shiny, baby-blonde hair. People are constantly asking us who and where we get our hair done, and we love it! The salon is gorgeous and and I am totally impressed by the level of service from the front desk staff. Not only do they have my favorite Kerastase products, but they also serve champagne and wine while you process. If you want a stellar experience, see Blue for color at Maxine's!

I highly recommend Aaron David @ Maxine Salon. He's been my stylist for approx 7-8 yrs & has never dissapointed. Aaron listens to what you want, always takes his time & makes sure you're happy in the end. I receive compliments often on my cuts. He is also one of the nicest people ever. Just had my first visit w/ Aaron since he started at Maxine & was impressed w/ the salon/service.

I love Blue. Love him, love him, love him. He has been my colorist for years. Maxine's is very lucky to have him. He listens, provides honest feedback and collaborates on what will work best for you. From traditional single color to highlights to balayage - he does it all. In addition to being exceptionally talented, he is also a lot of fun. The people at Maxine's were very nice. Overall it is a great experience.

I have been going to the same salon for almost five years and truly love it...but I had a groupon for Maxine and tried it out. From the warm welcome to the cupcake while I was waiting in foils, this salon experience far surpassed any others. And that doesn't even touch on the hair! It's always a little difficult letting a new crew do your hair but I could not have been more pleased with the color from Tracy and the brilliant cut by Hans. The way he styled my hair changed my life that day. ha! Seriously though, it is worth a try. I will be returning.

I followed my amazing colorist, (John) Blue, to Maxine just recently and was pleased to find some of my other stylist faves, Reese and Aaron, there as well. Blue's been my colorist for the past 6 years and has taken me from spur of the moment home-died brown to red to (my natural) blonde to my current (and possibly best) strawberry blonde, via all manner of processing - single process, gloss, foils, balayage. My color always looks great - compliments from strangers great - and the one time we changed color products and something bad happened he fit me in same day to fix it. He's extremely talented and understands my hair and more importantly understands how important my hair is to me. He's able to do things like "the same as before but with the red four washes less than last time". Plus, he's incredibly personal. I always enjoy catching up whilst my hair gets glam. Aaron does amazing things with hair, too, although I've only personally experienced blow-outs. But I've had plenty of time to observe - he's got serious skills. As for the salon, I had no trouble transitioning and Maxine, the owner, personally introduced herself to me and thanked me for following my beloved colorist. Price-wise, Blue's right where he was at before, but I can't speak to the other service charges. I'm looking forward to getting to know the place and the other staff. And to enjoying a cocktail; next time I'll book my appointment accordingly!

I finally found a place that knows how to cut curls! I have searched everywhere and always am disappointed. There is nothing worse than having a straight, blunt, cut. Michelle Dixon at Maxine's understands this and gave me a gorgeous cut. She listened when I said not too short and was pleased she only took 1/4 inch off the bottom. She layered it, gave me a nice shape around my face and made it look amazing! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I'm nots used to paying $95 just for a cut. But I'm still going back.

I always get compliments on his haircuts and, since I have no talent for styling, I feel very good about the fact that I look well groomed. Aaron is AMAZING! He listens to what you want and does it. I have been to a plethora or stylists any many have their own agenda when it comes to your hair or they don't listen and do the exact opposite of what you want to have done. I really appreciate that Aaron takes the time to listen...he has a true commitment to making people look amazing. He has cut my hair for years and even though I no longer reside in Chicago I still come back to the city to see Aaron.

I just got the BEST haircut from Aaron David at Maxine!!! Its true a haircut can be life changing :) I had LONG LONG hair and I was ready for a change but was also scared to get a major haircut. After meeting with Aaron he calmed my nerves and assured me a bob would be perfect. Did I mention my hair is SO thick, he was able to texturize it and give it a style (something I have been missing for many years with long hair) Aaron was right, I love my new bob. I would highly recommend seeing Aaron, he is the best !

after visiting hans for a haircut, i left maxine and within an hour i was stopped by two strangers in the street who needed to know where i had done my hair. this never happens. being from LA, i've been to my fair share of great stylists but hans gave me the shiniest, most luxurious blowdry. it lasted a few days too. since moving to chicago, i have seen about a dozen stylists and never felt compelled to return to any of them, until now. hans is perceptive and versatile. he understands what looks good and i can't wait to go back again!

Great place, super friendly staff. I have been going there since I moved to Chicago - after living in France for 10 years - and I would not change. Diana is really THE color expert, she is just amazing! She lightened my hair several tones, without damaging it and making it look natural, shiny and with depth. After spending a few hours with Diana and Hans - the king of blowdryng - my hair looks so amazing that people have stopped me in the street to ask who does my hair.

I love Blue! He is an awesome colorist, he is new to Maxines, coming from Trio where he has colored my hair for the past 5 years. Blue is very good at listening to what you want, he will also offer suggestions. I am a redhead and I will admit, I have never had better hair color since going to Blue. Blue is also now doing the highlighting method called "Balayage" on my hair and I love it.

I'm not one to write reviews on Yelp. However, I feel it completely necessary to express my undeniable satisfaction with Thor. I have never been so happy with a haircut! I've had about a half-dozen cuts with Thor and each one has been magnificent. Thor's understanding for what I want is superb and his eye for what is good for me is always on point. I always feel confident and beautiful when leaving Thor's chair. Never disappoints.

I got my hair cut today by Cliff, a level one stylist, and I'm really pleased. I have long hair and wanted the most minimum trim possible, just to get rid of split ends and make my hair healthier. A lot of stylists will ignore your pleas to not chop off a lot of hair, but Cliff just took off the very ends. He also trimmed up my existing layers and gave them more life. I'm really happy with the way it came out and with how he did exactly what I asked (and did it well). I've had one other experience at Maxine, which was also very positive. I went to Stacy last summer to get a one-process color. I'd gotten blond highlights and wanted to go back to all-over dark brown, and Stacy gave me a great rich brown that has lasted all this time; the blonde has never come back out.

Was lured in here for the yelp deal I noticed for new customers and all the rave reviews. I have to say even for a junior/level 1 stylist I am very pleased with my haircut. I wasn't pushed to purchase products or interrogated on what shampoo I use etc. The stylist really listened to what I wanted and before styling it even asked how I'd like to have it styled. I thought that was rarer for a upscale salon; they can sometimes have the attitude of we know best but kudos to Maxine's for actually listening to the client!

I had the joy of working with Thor for the first time last week and I have to say, all the hype my city-dwelling, awesomely-coiffed colleagues came true! I was graciously welcomed and on a mid/late Friday afternoon, even my 8 year old son was warmly welcomed. This is great and not at all the way I've been treated at other Oak St.-area salons (ahem, you know who you are). Thor greeted us and we had a very productive consult. He ensured I understood what he intended and made sure it matched what I had in mind--at each turn. I started off intending just to have a blowout, but given my nasty split ends, we both had time and I had a fabulous cut. I even have bangs. This is momentous for me: I've never had well-cut bangs, due mostly to my side-part cowlick. Now? I have hair that swings when I walk, bangs that pop, and a cut that is well worth every penny. I can't wait to see Thor again and while I love, love my suburban colorist, I think I might be seeing what else Maxine may have in store for me in terms of color, too. And the head massage is worth the price alone; it's *that* life-changing. Thor? You have a new customer for life!

Capital L - Love Severn. I have been seeing S since 2004. Was with him at a previous salon and then had to track him down. Speaking of I am in a serious need of a hair cut!! And yes it's chichi - so what! You can find bad attitudes at haircuttery - and at any price level. It could be YOU that's the problem! You know the types, act like a cat that's been cornered, bad attitude because they feel inadequate. Everyone at Maxine's has been nothing but nice to me.

Thor has been my stylist for more than 20 years (Maxine is the third salon I've followed him to). Why is he the only person I'll let cut my hair? My hair is very fine and there's not alot of it. Over the years, he's suggested styles that work very well with that hair type. The styles are always age-appropriate, very flattering, easy to manage, and travel well ... important when I was doing alot of business traveling. Aside from giving a stellar haircut, Thor is unfailingly professional, courteous, personable and a pleasure to talk to. Also, Maxine is a lovely salon. The friendly staff have always treated me well.

Bob Gartlan (The Guru) . Never I have been so excited about a haircut as the lastest one this month at Maxine. It was the bets bday treat ever. I am very accustomed to cuts in India as they go well with my jet black thick hair. I did have a picture though guess it helped a lot( After all the bad experinces so far I was not in for any more ruins! Just Perfect

First time visit to Maxine: May 2010. Since then, I haven't stopped coming and Lisette L. is fully responsible for brining me to Maxine!!! I had been visiting Lisette for couple of years at her previous salon, and when she left her previous salon I was completely at a loss!! I couldn't bring myself to getting a haircut and just continued to wait, just in case we were able to reconnect. Thanks to the power of the Internet, Lisette found me!! Before going on a trip with super long hair, she emailed me and I immediately scheduled my first visit to the new salon. Lisette does some serious magic with her shears. More recently, I asked for something different and my husband and I both loved the new look. For those occasions when I really want something different - Leslie S. is also a great colorist!! The salon itself is beautiful and in a great location to shop and eat too! It's next door to Silver Spoon (amazing Thai food) and there are always great deals over at Nordstrom Rack. :)

This was my first time at Maxine's shop. I made an appointment with Diane for color and Theresa for cut based upon the reviews contained on this site. I was certainly not disappointed! I am also from LA (Orange County, California) where I live two weeks while I live in the Chicago suburbs the other two. I am in my early 40's and have NEVER had any highlights in my hair. I always just had my hair colored to cover the gray - the same color as my natural color. I have very long, very thick hair. My hair was all one color (flat black) and one length (straight & long) with 80s bangs. I was so bored with my look. I was definitely in need of an update. I called the salon, was treated well on the phone and made my appointment to see Diane and Theresa. Be forewarned - these ladies only work on Friday & Saturday so they book their time well in advance. I waited over three weeks for my appointment and it was worth every second! On my appointment day, I was running terribly late (the story of my life) and arrived almost 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Despite their completely full schedules, both Diana and Theresa graciously accommodated me... I explained to Diane that I was interested in the (rather expensive) "Balayage" highlighting process. However, when I expressed what look I hoped to achieve, Diane made some other professional recommendations (that were actually less expensive). I am so pleased that I followed her advise. After our consultation but before we started our process, Theresa came over, introduced herself and conducted our consultation. They coordinated their efforts at the very beginning so that I would be sure to have the end result I wished for. Diane is a MASTER at color. My hair has NEVER looked better and frankly, her services are very fairly priced. She has amazing hair (her best advertising) and is extremely engaging. She is professional and uses her time well but does not make your feel rushed or ignored. My previously flat black hair is now a warm, shiny deep brown with caramel, natural looking highlights. It really looks beautiful. Theresa does her cuts on dry hair. I have never had a "dry" cut before but it just makes sense. She took me once Diane was done with the first step of my color process, dried my hair (herself - I was never asked to do anything on my own, nor was I ever asked to wait for any amount of time regardless of my tardy arrival) and then sculpted gorgeous long layers that frame my face, updated my look (no more 80s bangs) and performed her magic while respecting my wish to keep my long hair. It was like magic watching her work. Each time she pulled my hair up, cut away and dropped it down, I could see the work coming together. Be aware that she is very intense - not one for much chit chat or tender heads - but she is a true professional. Focused but friendly... Ladies, this is the dream team of hair! While I was there, I truly heard more than a few "guests" say they would schedule their next appointment when they were back in "town" again - many of their clients actually come from out of state to see these two and after my amazing experience, I certainly understand why they do so. I highly recommend this salon and these two ladies specifically. I know I will be going back!

Thor manages to cut and style my hair, massage my scalp and remove the frizzies from my brain. All for a single price! Some stylists make me wish my time with them was over. Thor is very calm and very focused. I never have to worry that he is going to go off the rails; and that I will have to slip quietly into a cab and sneak home! He is a real find!!!

I discovered Maxine 3 years ago and I am so glad I did! I would highly recommend Marie (Malese) as a stylist. She's bubbly, creative, and really listens to her clients. The salon is high-end, clean, and stylish. Carlos at reception is always pleasant and helpful. The location is great and parking is affordable. Make your appointment soon!

Thor! Terrific cuts. I've traveled over an hour for more than 10 years for Thor to cut my hair. I've always looked for a stylist that's an artist who uses hair as a medium. Thor has an eye for shape and texture. I leave the style decisions up to him - easy to care for and variety every couple of months.

After playing the waiting game with my long-term stylist, I needed to find someone quickly to do a great cut & style of my mixed natural long hair. I called this morning hoping someone would've cancelled with Michelle so I could get in...lucky for me she was completely booked and I discovered Rivkah. The service was seamless, from the smile greeting me at the valet, to easy check-in and directions. Rivkah gives a fabulous shampoo and scalp massage, her blow-dry technique left my hair soft and full of body. The best part was the cut and style - the lady has TALENT and my hair looks sexy and healthy! Great service, impeccable technique and I now have two great stylists (Rivkah & Michelle) at the same salon. Needless to say I booked my next appointment while checking out. Thanks Maxine!

There are 2 employees at this salon who are truly exceptional...Diana Mildice is my Colorist, and I have NEVER found a better colorist in all of Chicago, and only one other that can compare to her abilities and skills in the entire World. (I am extremely well traveled.) Her skills are unparalleled in the industry, from corrective color with massive issues to the avant garde to simply beautiful and elegant color. If you need a colorist or are just thinking about a little freshen up, She is your girl!!! She is a Master in Her own right. I love her work and color, and she listens to you and what you want, and makes it work! She is so fabulous I just can't say enough! If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Chicago, you have to make an appointment with her. If you live here, consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to see her on a regular basis. The other person I referred to, is Theresa Tufte. She is a Master Stylitst, and you should see the cuts she can create. I have had 3 hair styles in my life that I just went crazy over...Theresa created one of those. It was absolutely beautiful. If you need a new look or stylist, look no further. And She teaches you how to style your hair as well, always giving tips and teaching you how to utilize your product properly. If you need a Master Colorist, or Master Stylist, definitely give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

THOR THOR THOR, he is the only reason I ever walked through the door, Thor has cut my hair for 15 years and I have taken him with me (his hair cut) all over the world, LA, New York and overseas. to the mountains and to the sea, white water rafting and to the Vatican. At the East Bank Club or when I am on TV, I like to think I am looking good, even when I am looking pretty bad, thanks Thor and to Maxine's for providing us such a great new home, it is a charming place full of light and energy ..Thor and I are very happy here.... I live in LA and travel for a living. In search of the perfect hair cut and color...I've gone to salons in Hollywood, Beverly HIlls, New York, Europe, South America, you name it. The best you ask? Chicago. Theresa Tufte for Cut and Diana Mildice for Color at Maxine's. I no longer waste money experimenting on new stylists, and running back to these ladies to "fix it." I always leave their chairs happy and feeling pretty. Best Hollywood hair in the middle of Chicago. Who knew?

I came down from Milwaukee just to try something new. I felt like nothing could be done with my thick curly mop after having the same cut for 20 years-by several expensive salons...I WAS WRONG! Let me tell you how it went: 1. Jason said "let me take care your color" 2. Thor gave me the best head massage and cut that I have ever had in my lef! 3. I walked through the salon and the "WOW!"s started. 4. I was "WOW"ed all the way down Michigan Ave,, and back and through Milwaukee, even by my 18 year old daughter!! If you want a great haircut, Thor does a fabulous job. I have thin hair, and you would never know it. Thor's cut gives my hair added volume, body, and great swing. Diana is an expert with my color and highlights. Maxine's Salon is top notch and totally focused on the me from the time i pull to the curb for valet service until I walk out the door knowing my hair looks and feels great.

Recently I went to Maxine to get a cut and color and could not be happier with the results. Stacie colored my hair the most beautiful chocolate brown and Brittany gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had. I have extremely thick, curly hair and she managed to give me a great style for when I decide to wear it straight as well. She was extremely informative and gives great guidance if you're not quite sure what you want. Brittany managed to keep most of my length while at the same time giving me the change I wanted. I highly recommend both Stacie and Brittany.

Today's distinction in definitions: Classy (adj.): stylish, admirably smart, elegant Wealthy (adj): having great wealth, rich, affluent If this is your first visit and you were a modest or middle class person, you might walk into Maxine and worry that you are not wealthy enough to be here. The atmosphere and front-desk service is a bit sterile, you'll feel a bit lost, but please, walk in anyway. You'll have made an appointment to meet with Bob for a haircut. You'll be guided to the area where you can change into a smock and be sent upstairs to wait on Bob. Bob, I repeat. Bob. You may wait for a couple of minutes. Passers by will notice that you are waiting on someone, and will offer you a drink, coffee or tea or water. You'll take or deny the drink, then wait. Just a few more minutes. Enter Bob, the one person in this place who can make you relax and remind you why it is that you've come here. If this is your first time meeting, he'll introduce himself, then bring you to his chair and have a talk about your hair while combing through it with this fingers. He'll spend some time figuring out how your hair falls, how thick it is, what kind of texture it has. Then he'll send you to get your hair washed before he begins. See? So far, not so bad. I won't go into the experience of the haircut itself because, well, to each his own head of hair. But Bob treats both your hair and you very well. He is super friendly, and just loves to chat. You forget you're in an upscale salon because, well, you're with Bob! At the end of the appointment you'll be past the point of beaming (Bob likes to think his haircuts will make you look 'so hot' once he's done, or that 'so many guys will ask for your number once you walk out of here'--I know this is psychological but it's actually happened to me on two occasions!), and seriously in love with Bob. Oh, back to our distinction with definitions. Now in the avenue of price range, sometimes the cost classy haircut falls in line with a wealthier cost. But for $100 you'll have a haircut that can last you 4-6 months (seriously---Bob tells me not to come back for half a year because he knoows that his cut will grow out well) with free bang trims. (I should also add that Bob has given me the best set of bangs in hair history.) A stylish, elegant haircut that's noticeable and attractive? A hairstylist who is treats you and your hair like the best thing that ever happened to him, if only for a short hour? At least you won't be wasting tons of money on a mediocre haircut that makes you feel decent at best. At least you've chosen a place and person who offer the best of their services at a reasonable cost. AND to get a discount once you mention Yelp? Now that's an experience that only the classy will go for. P.S. Bob, if you're a Cylon and you've replicated yourself, please send one of your models over to San Diego--the westcoast is in dire need of good hair professionals =).

I have naturally dark brown hair and dyed it almost blond last summer. I needed to make it brown again quickly, and went to Maxine because there was a special on Yelp -- I think at that time it was something like $25 off a first-time color or something. Anyway, the colorist did SUCH a good job. When I first left, I wasn't all that pleased... it looked pretty much black to me. But the colorist said it would fade to my dark brown and blend well, and she was right. The highlights have never come back out, and the color has faded to look exactly like my natural shade. Everyone there was also very nice and accommodating -- I was exhausted, having arrived back that day from abroad and been awake for 48 hours, and the stylist brought me coffee and water. The deal I'd seen on Yelp was also applied to the final price without me even asking for it, which I thought was really nice.

I've been going to Maxine for about a year now, and my hair has never looked better! Before, my highlights always seemed to look skunk-like, or too blonde. Then I met Leslie, and my color has never been better. I constantly get compliments on it. She knows how to make it look fresh and beautiful. Evan does my cuts, and he's a dream. He knows how to cut long hair in a stylish way without chopping it like so many other stylists do. Add to the fact that the receptionists are totally sweet, and Maxine is the best! Super happy.

I went back to Maxine during a birthday trip to Chicago. I was feeling a little blah and wanted to get some color added to my hair for a pick-me-up. As soon as I sat down in Jasen's chair I knew I was in great hands. He was very funny and friendly, and he put me at ease immediately. I told him I wanted to try balayage, and he suggested a mix of honey and caramel shades that would work well for me. I told him to go for it and as he painted my hair, we chatted about my birthday trip and he offered me some great suggestions on things to do while I was in town. After he finished with my color, I moved on to Qiana for styling. (I had been with Rivkah before, but she was off that day.) As Qiana blew my hair dry, it was then that I was able to see how amazing Jasen's color work truly was. It made me look younger - a definite plus on my birthday! Qiana was sweet and talented, quickly curling my hair into fabulousity. When I looked at the final result, I felt hot - and I hadn't felt that way in too long. I had drinks with an old friend after leaving the salon, and he couldn't stop telling me how great I looked. Thanks again, Maxine, for making me look great, and for making my birthday special. I came to Maxine Salon as a last minute decision to fix a botched "out of a box" highlight job. My colorist Sarah was absolutely amazing. Her friendly and thoughtful demeanor set me at ease instantly. Her professional assessment of the damage and how she would apply the color remedy was SPOT ON! She worked with precision and efficiency, communicating each step and the expected results along the way. Although it was my first time at Maxine, thanks to Sarah, I never felt apprehensive about how things would turn out. My hair looks fabulous now, and is exactly the natural golden brown color I imagined, with highlights that pop oh-so-subtly and naturally. I plan to return to have Sarah work her magic in a few months, as her talent with hair color consultation and application is exceptional!

Theresa's cut and Diana's color are the best in the business. I moved to Los Angeles a year ago, and still make trips back just to get my hair done. Both ladies are incredibly talented and meticulous! Theresa is the master of cuts that most stylists mess up--especially short or layered styles--and can work with difficult hair textures. Money very, very well spent. Both cut and color outlast weeks beyond the competition!

Not sure why I decided on this place, but I'm glad I did. Everyone from the receptionist who I booked with, to the greeting staff, to the stylist was great. I did get the 25% discount (but I think they also offer this to first time clients). My stylist really listened to what I wanted, and delivered. Love my new hair style! :-)

In the past, Ive been open to experiencing multitudes of varying colorists, stylists, etc. from sitting as a model at Vidal Sassoon to having regular cuts at Chris McMillan's salon in Beverly Hills. For the past several years however, I have finally found a match that fulfills all my needs. Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte work exquisitely together as colorist and stylist. Ive fluctuated between blonde and chestnut over the years, and can continually count on Diana to produce the most beautiful results...she is an artist. Theresa is also amazingly skilled at her trade. Im regularly complimented on my cut and recently transitioned to bangs with no regrets. Most importantly, these women are considerate and accommodating of your input and requests. Not only will you walk out of the salon with an amazing hairstyle, you will have gained two extraordinary friends.

On the recommendation of a friend, I visited Maxine's for a much-needed cut and color. I don't mind spending money on my hair to have it done right. Every staff member was friendly and professional. Robert took me first to consult with Sanda about my cut; and then he consulted with me about my color. He listened to what I wanted and made suggestions, and I ended up getting lowlights as well as highlights and color. My color has never looked this rich, and also very natural. In fact, after my cut and dry, when I went back to show Robert the results, the client he had in his chair ended up asking him to do the same to her! Robert also told me what to ask for when I come back for maintenance, so I don't have to spend as much next time. Sanda also listened carefully to me, and made suggestions. Before she started cutting she went over it again to make sure we were on the same page. She knew exactly what she was doing and gave me a beautiful cut, then styled it and showed me how to keep some body in it. I walked out looking and feeling like a rock star! I'll definitely be back. Maxine's is pricey, but to me it's worth the money.

Josh Shores is amazing with color. He highlights my hair a perfect looking shade of blond--people are surprised when they learn I have highlights AND I always get compliments on my hair. Plus, Josh is a funny and nice person, so spending a couple of hours with him on a Sat. is actually a treat rather than a chore (I usually hate getting my hair done, would rather be doing something else). As for the salon itself, I love it. It is one of the nicest in the city (so top notch service, quality, etc.) without any of the snobbishness you find at other salons. If you don't mind dropping major coin on your hair, go here, and go to Josh.

I had been going to the same hair stylist for 7 years (gasp!) at another salon and found myself to be in a bit of a hair rut. Based on the recommendation of a friend I chose Maxines, with Jasen doing my color and Evan doing my haircuts. First- Jasen. He gives me the most perfect highlights using balayage. I never thought I could have such naturally sunkissed hair since I am a natural brunette. He is incredibly patient as he paints my locks, and I never have felt that he was trying to rush me out of the chair. I feel that he is truly taking the time to make my color look its absolute best, and after three times of seeing him I have 100% confidence in him and his opinion. Now Evan. He has given me an entirely new haircut without cutting off my beloved length, so long haired ladies he is your guy! He has made my layers more uniform and beautiful. He really takes his time as he cuts my hair, and the result has been consistently beautiful. He also gives me the most fabulous styling after the cut (just an added bonus) All in all, both Jasen and Evan are absolute sweethearts. Both very fun & easy going guys, and I really look forward to the several hours I spend with them every 7 weeks :) Thanks to Maxines, Jasen, & Evan as you have all made me love my hair again. I never feel less than a million bucks after our afternoons together.

Qiana relaxed and cut my hair and it is truly one of the best cuts that I've ever had! I grew my hair out from a pixie to almost a bob, and it was difficult to shape. When I visit other salons, stylists always compliment my cut. To top it all off, I've never spent longer than 2 hours here getting serviced, true professionals.

Maxine is what I consider the top salon in the city of Chicago. I have followed Theresa and Diana from their days at Sasson, then Trio, now Maxine. Not only does Maxine have top notch stylists and colorists, but the ambiance, service and professionalism of the staff makes this salon a cut above the rest. I have never had a dissapointing cut or color from Theresa or Diana, as I have always put my hair in their hands. I have had years of compliments on my hair styles. Maxine is worth the drive for me.

Hair is a big thing for me... I think it is worth spending a lot on your haircut because you wear it everyday and is more important than anything else you would wear! After my lifelong hairstylist left the country a few years ago I have been on the hunt to find someone new I could trust and would consistently give amazing haircuts. Theresa fits the bill!! She really knows what she is doing and people are always asking me where I go because they love the cut. I barely have to do anything with my hair because the cut works for itself.

I have been going to see Tracey Mangers for many years. She just switched over to Maxine Salon and I was happy to follow her. Tracey really is the best there is at color. Over the years she has done just about everything for me. I have been a sun kissed blond, blond with balyage, then back to my natural color, and now my natural color with amazing highlights. Diana Mildice is the best colorist in Chitown!!! I met Diana almost 3 years back when I moved to Chicago. After trying all the other big name salons in the city, I decided to try TRIO Salon in the Wabash neighborhood. In our 1st meeting, Diana spent a lot of time talking to me... understanding my color needs. She wanted to make sure that while making me happy with the color, she was preserving the health of my hair. We clicked there right away! :-) I have dark black hair and was looking to go lighter(caramel blonde preferably). She did an wonderful job that day and I walked out elated and happy after a very long time!! My hair felt healthy and looked amazing!! Over the years she has continued doing an amazing job. Now, she works at Maxine salon and I have followed her there. Diana is very experienced, she truly cares about the health of her clients hair, she takes time to understand the long term and short term color needs and then delivers a fantastic job. She is also very personable and sweet person. I have always got oodles of compliments every single time after she has colored my hair. She is the BEST in the business and hands down to her!! If you are looking for experience, expertise and a great personality in your colorist....you search ends with Diana :-)

I followed Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte from Trio to Maxine because, quite frankly, the thought of someone else coloring and cutting my hair was scary. Maxine is a gorgeous salon - a little oasis from the chaos of the city. Diana is great for color - she listens, makes great suggestions, is very honest and always does a great job. I've been going to her for 10 years and have never been less than thrilled with my color. Follow up your color with a great haircut from Theresa. She takes the time to understand exactly what you want and gives honest feedback. It is said that the sign of a good haircut is that it grows into a good haircut and I can definitely say that is true of Theresa.

Coming to Chicago from London over 4 years ago I struggled to find a decent colorist. After unsatisfactory trips to three different salons in the Downtown area I finally found the best...Diana Mildice. Diana is a lovely person and a true professional who always takes time to discuss how you are actually feeling about your hair. You can trust her 100% to listen to you and do exactly what you want. She has now moved to Maxine from Trio I can say that I LOVE the new salon. Staff are courteous and helpful and the atmosphere is relaxed and calm. I always leave feeling completely refreshed and delighted with my highlights.

For being on Rush Street, I don't think this salon is at all over-the-top. The service is top notch but I have never once felt intimidated (even walking in on a wet day in my three-year-old Tory Burch flats, now relegated to commuting ranks). I couldn't be happier with Josie, my stylist. She actually listened to what I wanted and gave me a sophisticated do. This is not an easy task, as my hair is thick and I either walk out looking like a) Axl Rose with lots of layers or b) a little kid with a quasi-bowl cut. The conditioning treatments are also excellent, neither putzy and needlessly drawn out nor perfunctory as they are at comparable salons. I will definitely be back to Maxine. I picked up on a high level of professionalism, which led me to believe the stylists would be trustworthy when it comes to doing color. As a bonus, Josie kept me entertained throughout my visit, telling me about her experience styling Martha Stewart's hair in advance of MS's book signing appearance. Yes kids, the stories you have heard are true. ...

Diana Mildice is by far the best cororist that I have ever had. I have lived in Manhattan, Boston, and Atlanta. Diiana is the best of the best. I have fine dark blonde have that has greyed significantly. With her magic, Diana transforms this mess into a dimensional blonde. Unless I tell people, no one knows that it is colored. It looks completely natural. Diana referred me to Thor Nygren, who now cuts my hair. He is also fabulous. I have fine hair and the cut he gives me is layered so that the volume triples. The cut also flatters the shape of my face giving me some much needed fullness on top. Another magician! Please try two. They will transform your looks!

After hitting up seemingly almost every hair salon on the North Side (the likes of Salon Siren, Sine Qua Non, Salon 1800, Mario Tricoci (I can go on and on)) I was still on my quest to find my perfect hair stylist. Maxine Salon to the rescue! I had somehow overlooked their reviews on Yelp, since they are not in my hood. However, they ARE close to work. The fact that if I mentioned Yelp I'd get a fat 25% off my first haircut, I figured it was definitely worth a try. The prospect of finally finding a place where I wouldn't be rolling the dice for my haircut & have it conveniently located by work was exciting. I called and was able to make a hair appointment on the same week at the time I requested. They asked me what kind of hair I had and what I was looking for and recommended Hans. Easy enough! I was already impressed that they matched my needs with an appropriate stylist. They even sent me an email confirmation a couple of days before. So far, so good. I had not had a haircut in over a year and my hair looked a hot mess - damage from flat ironing, really long in front, you get the picture. Don't be put off by the fact it's in the Gold Coast on Rush - they are really laid back and friendly. I was greeted by the friendly staff up front where they showed me to the coat room, offered me something to drink, helped me with my robe and sent me off to Hans. If you are looking for a laidback stylist, who will listen to what you want and hook you up with a really fresh, updated look, Hans is your guy. Apparently he is a recent New York transplant and still stays in touch with the NY scene working Fashion Week and even does some teaching on the side. Despite knowing his accolades, I could tell right away that he knew what he was doing. Hans took the time to evaluate the condition of my hair, listen to what look I was going for, and gave me a few suggestions on how he could go about achieving my look before going scissor happy. As he was styling my hair, he even took the time to give me some great tips on how I could style my hair at home so I wouldn't have to deal with that feeling we've all experienced where you can't replicate "salon styled" hair after the first wash at home. He also mentioned that if I needed a touch up on my bangs, I could come in and it's complimentary! All in all, I left with a lighter head of hair and a great, updated look and not too much damage to the bank account. One thing to note is that you can't tip on your credit card, so make sure you bring some cash with you for that (they told me this when I made my appointment so I was prepared). I left extremely happy and I am afraid to say this but... I think I have finally found my go-to stylist!

I went to Maxine as a last resort of Chicago salons. I had had some terrible experiences before, and was really looking for basically the best of the best to cut my hair. I read the different stylist profiles on their website, and actually wrote them a message describing my hair type and what I was looking for, as well as the stylists I thought might work best for me. they wrote me an email back and said that Amy would be a great match, and to schedule a free consultation. So I did. After having my appointment with Amy, I felt like I had finally arrived. Amy is very smart, and is very good at what she does. I don't like being told 'no' when it comes to my hair, and she took that very seriously. We talked extensively about my hair, what it does, what it doesn't do, the texture, the style, my style, and what I was looking for and how she could make that work for me. I scheduled my appointment for a week later, and I could hardly wait to get back in her chair and be transformed! I was brimming with excitement, and was very pleased with the style she gave me. I was absolutely glowing when I left the salon! When I first went to Amy, I was "just a girl with hair" always wishing I had a great haircut...now I'm the girl with an incredible haircut that receives countless compliments daily! I just got my second cut yesterday, and I went a little shorter. I let her do her thing and holy moly my hair is divine! I swear 8 people at work asked me where I got it cut and who did it and what was their phone number! EVEN the guys at my job noticed my hair!! now that's a sign of true haircutting and styling genius!!! I highly recommend Maxine to those in search of hair excellence. **I want to add one thing. I have to absolutely disagree with the reviews that talk poorly about the customer service! I have been there three times, one of them for tree, and have received nothing but great service...always help me with the robe, offer me a beverage, and are very friendly and courteous.

I cannot say enough good things about Tina Deeke - not only has she brought my hair back to shiny, glossy condition, but Tina has the most amazing eye for skin tone and color. I have been through single process browns to highlighted warm toffees with smooth dashes of caramel. Every time Tina got the tone just right for my skin and eyes. She truly is a find! One of Tina's secrets is that she tells you honestly what is possible and what wouldn't work. So she listens to her clients but makes sure they profit from her expertise to find the solution that achieves what they want but within a natural range. Maxine runs one of the best salons in Chicago. Technically, the staff is among the best trained in the country. They are always off to national and international events to learn the latest. And Maxine is a test salon for Kerastase, first out with the latest innovations. The support staff is wonderful and the service is personal, cheerful and flexible. If Maxine was in NY you would need a waiting list to get in! We are lucky to have them in Chicago. When we lived in California I would go back to Chicago for haircuts with Bob and I have girlfriends from Boston and San Francisco who plan their flights so they may stop-over in O'hare and make a quick dash to Maxine. If you want an awesome cut, go see Evan at Maxine. What can I say, Evan is the bee's knees. I have thick hair, and when I get it cut short I always have areas that stick up all over the place. Not when Evan cut my hair. He took his time and gave me the haircut I wanted. Plus, as a bonus, Evan likes sports and music. Two things I enjoy as well and we talked about the Bears, concerts and playing in bands. Needless to say I will be going back to Evan again. Go Bears!

I have been following around Diana for color and Theresa for cuts for over 15 years! They are simply the best hair "artists" in Chicago! I would never go to anyone else and would travel near and far for their services. I'm constantly complimented on my hair cuts and color! Maxine's hit the jackpot hiring these two. I also followed Diane to Maxine from Trio... Diane is the most talented colorist that I have ever used in the 20 years of highlighting my hair. My hair looks even better after this first visit to Maxine, and I think it is due to the superior quality of the products they use. I did not get my hair cut, but had scheduled Theresa to dry my hair. Drying is an extra charge which is new to me, but the additional $30 is worth the complete look. I recommend trying the two ladies for your next hair appointments - they are REALLY good.

I have gone to Diana for color and Josie for cut since I was 11 (now am 22) they are just the best and really give you what you want and provide great insight. I used to go to them at Trio and followed them here.... Let me just say, Maxine is so much nicer!!! Follow my advice and make appointments with these ladies today.... You won't regret it, and you will love your hair!!!!

I finally found a great salon!! My hair is thick, wavy and my ends were very fried from a previous color and cut that I wasn't really happy with. Evan cut my hair. He took the width out and made my hair more manageable then any cut that i have ever had. It's not too short and not to long, just perfect. Josh colored my hair and fixed my too blond highlights. He made my naturally dark brown hair more richer and even added some subtle red! Staff was very friendly and offered my coffee and refills. Very caring.

I am thrilled to share my favorite colorist and my favorite stylist with Yelp viewers. Diana Mildice has been coloring my hair and Theresa Tufte has been cutting my hair since 2001 and they are stuck with me as a client for life. They have both been so wonderful and they treat me with such great care. I recently developed an allergy to gluten and they have both gone out of her way to ensure there is no wheat protein or oat ingredients in the products they use on my hair. I am so happy to see Diana and Theresa at Maxine. The salon is clean, spacious and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up from this customer!

I have gone to Diana Mildice for color and Theresa Tufte for cuts for over 6 years. My hair has never looked better. Diana sometimes jokes about having to go find her magic wand to fulfill my request. The truth is she doesn't need one. She is able to listen and really hear what it is I'm wanting my hair to look like (even though I have trouble articulating just what that may be). Theresa is able to cut my fine hair and afterwords, l look like I have 10 times more hair. When Theresa asks me what we're doing with my cut, I just ask what she thinks will look best. I always take her advice and I am thrilled with the results. I highly recommend Theresa and Diana for a great cut and believable blond color

I constantly get great feed back from people stating how much they love my hair!!!!! Theresa is by far a great stylist as well! These girls are the best!

I followed Theresa Tufte and Diana Muldice when they both made the transition from Trio Salon Chicago to Maxine's Chicago. Philip Palmeri, one of Trio's partners, had colored my hair for many years and he was "the man" - the "master" with color. I have hair that is resistant to color and needs a highly skilled colorist. The only other person I trust to color my hair, who is even close to his expertise and then some, is Diana. Both Diana and Theresa are highly skilled, interesting, smart professionals and if that's not enough - they both have hearts of gold. I congratulate Maxine for recognizing the high calibre of perfection and integrity these two classy women will bring to Maxine's Chicago. I've been fortunate to have Theresa cutting and styling my hair for the past 10 years. Her hair cutting technique is truly her own and is awesome; she is an "artiste" - a real perfectionist and is never satisfied with mediocrity. Once again, kudos to Maxine's!

For truly gorgeous hair, enlist the aid of the dynamic duo - Diana Mildice for color - blondes (without the brassy), vibrant brunettes, and glowing redheads. Diana does highlights, lowlights, and hand painting with consistent expertise. Theresa Tufte (a.k.a the Perfectionist) gives you such a precision cut, that you can actually replicate the results at home. I've been their client for over a decade, yet I still glow every time they spin my chair around to face the mirror where I can admire my glamorous new cut. More importantly, they are delightful individuals with killer senses of humor. Sassoon trained, they have recently moved from Trio to Maxine's at 712 N. Rush in Chicago.

It might be pricey but I have never, ever been disappointed when I see Thor for a cut. I have straight, flat boring hair and when he's done with it I always have this wavy volume, he's magic and i have been going to him for ages now, a super man with great feel for his clients and what they want. The new salon is amazing too, great service, clean, minimal it does not feel like your ordinary gold coast salon, definitely worth the price and the trip.

Maxine is the best salon in Chicago, and I have seen a lot of other places...They use the best products that are on the market right now for color ( see L'oreal Professional which are the same ones they use in Paris, Milano and London for models on professional settings ). Once you try the amazing colors and how your hair feels after you can never go back to anything else. And I know this from my own experience after using these products for years overseas as well. My fabulous person to go to here is Jasen, he is the sweetest, kindest and most attentive...I just got my hair done yesterday and even though I don't get to see him that often I am always super happy with his work. He's got great talent and a great eye for what matches my skin tone. Haven't found my match for a haircut yet, but I am looking forward to that...The great thing about Maxine is the diversity of talent they have...it might take some time to find the right one but hey, at least you have that option compared to other places...Just look around at what comes out of these people's hands...

Just like many others, I've been going to Maxine since 2003 and cannot imagine going anywhere else! I've been seeing Robert for color and have never left there without loving the work he's done. After reading the stylists' biographies online, I chose to schedule with a newer stylist to the team who came over from another Gold Coast salong. Josie was AMAZING!!! I brought pictures from the way my previous stylist there was cutting my hair. She looked at them, cut some, looked again, etc. I cannot remember the last time I left the salon and LOVED LOVED LOVED the cut as much as the colorRobert did!! Not only is Josie fun and hip, she's amazing, has a ton of experience, has fabulous ink and is very personable! Josie is absolutely my go-to girl now! She also mentioned that if I needed a touch-up on my sideswept bangs, to please stop in at any time and she'll do her best to slide me in for the quick fix. Sure, Maxine is not a cheap salon by any means, but this just proves you DO get what you pay for. Spend a little extra and I can guarantee you won't head home and try to "fix" something your stylist did or worse, convince yourself that it'll be better in a few days. Honest.

See Diana for color, Theresa for cut. Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte are new members of the Maxine team. I followed them from another Chicago salon since I couldn't imagine going to anyone else. Diana is by far the best colorist I've ever had. She'll listen to what you want while offering advice as to what will work best for you. Theresa is a truly gifted stylist. She's given me consistently awesome cuts for the past 4 years. I really think if you are looking for a colorist and/or stylist, definitely give these two a try. You won't be disappointed! Oh and they are super cool people, too. The salon itself is beautiful and I found the general vibe there very nice. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

I was in Chicago on business and after yelp-ing different salons, I settled on Maxine's. Let me tell you that my gamble paid off in spades! I first saw Leslie for my colour and she was fantastic...she knew exactly what she was doing and was super sweet. I then saw Josie for my haircut. Prior to my colour I had discussed with her different styles I was thinking about and,most importanly, the desire to fix the terrible haircut I was given at a salon in my home city. She came back with some pics and was bag-on to my wavelength. All in all, my Maxine experience was a great one...I definitely recomment it to anyone looking for a quality style and a quality salon. Oh, and don't forget to mention Yelp, the 25% discount was the cherry on the sunday :)

i live in Cincinnati, and after a rough week, I decided to treat myself to a pamper day in Chicago last week. Even though I called on a Wednesday, I was able to snag an appointment for that upcoming Saturday. I explained to the friendly receptionist that I had natural African-American hair and that I wanted to get it shampooed and blown out, and she directed me toward Rivkah, and explained that I could read more about her on Maxine's Web site. I also made a pedicure appointment with Ivy. That Saturday, I walked into the salon, and was amazed at how nice it was. It had a great energy! Since it was my first time at the salon, I had been a little nervous, but the really nice guy at the front desk instantly made me feel at home. He gave me a smock and directed me upstairs and told me Rivkah would be with me shortly - and indeed, she met me as i reached the top of the stairs . She is SO pretty! My first thought - if I end up looking half as fly, this will be great. She introduced herself, and I was struck by how nice she was. She asked me what I was looking for, and we spoke for several minutes as I explained I needed a trim, deep conditioner and blowout. She told me about the different kinds of conditioners they had and I chose the Kerastase. As she shampooed me - yep, she did it herself! - and gave me the conditioner, we chatted about how I ended up at the salon and got to know each other better. Overall, it was an extremely relaxing experience. She trimmed my raggedy ends into shape, and gave me these soft spiral curls, and my hair was bouncing and behaving! When I saw the final result, I was floored - my hair was FABULOUS! It hadn't looked that good in a LONG time. I immediately decided I would be back, and that Rivkah would be my go-to stylist. Thanks so much, Rivkah! Some have mentioned that Maxine is a little pricey, but it is worth it - you definitely get what you pay for, and feeling fabulous is priceless. :o)

Maxine is pretty much as good as it gets! I am now a total Maxine snob and refuse to go anywhere else...REFUSE. The irony of my Maxine snobbiness is that the people who work there are anything but! You'd figure that the location and quality of the work would make you feel like Julia Roberts when she walks into the bitchy dress store in Pretty Woman...but absoultely no. I think I laugh more with the people that work there than I do with some of the people I am friends with. Very cool people, from the stylists to the assistants to the people who work the front of the salon. I always see Stacie and she's been making my prematurely gray hair dissappear for the past two years. In some sort of amazing magic, she always manages to get my hair to look exactly how I want it to, no matter if its with highlights or whatever the hell else I am feeling that day. She's awesome, and I heart her. It's a very cool place, with cool people. They offer wine, which just makes an already great salon experience even better. Also, the prices are completely reasonable for the quality of the work. And they sell pretty much every Kerastase product with the added bonus of letting you try them all out if you choose to dry your own hair. Too fun. I would tell anyone looking for the best hair experience available in the 312 to call them, it's amazing how busy they are, yet they always work to get you an appointment that fits! Maxine....Yes, please.

After going to Mario Tricocci for about 5 years I didn't know what I was missing. Tricocci was a hair chop shop where after going to see the same stylist for 5 years you would think she would act like she remembered me when she saw me but she never did! Anyways, I stumbled upon Maxines when I was totally digging the hair of a girl I met. She told me she went to Maxines and was raving about them saying that they have specific stylists that specialized in specific types of hair or cuts. So I ended up seeing Joseph who was fabulous but moved to Miami :( They recommended me to Becca who does such a wonderful job! Ironically too we made the connection that we went to college together too! Small world. She is so awesome and she loves cutting long hair and she's so wonderful at it too! They have $12 valet which is REALLY nice, Mario Tricocci or Eliz Arden do not offer that. As well, the front desk staff is SUPER nice. And if you feel the inkling they also recently started serving wine and champagne. They do offer water, tea and coffee which I usually manage to grab a drink before I sit down. This is a super nice place and they have made me a loyal customer as I have been going here for about 4 years now!

I am so impressed with this salon! I was super nervous about finding a new stylist in Chicago, but I went to Evan Roberts, and he gave me the best cut I've ever had. He works great with long hair, and listened carefully to what I wanted before getting started. I'm getting married, and I was worried about getting too much chopped off. He just took off a little. Evan gave me a great cut, with beautiful layering towards my face. I highly recommend him and the Maxine salon!

Josie is the best hair stylist in Chicago. I have been going to her since I moved here from the west coast 9 years ago. She was at Trio Salon downtown and I almost cried when they said she was no longer there. The good news I found her!!! She is now at Maxine downtown on Rush street. She is still amazing and the new salon is beautiful. if you want a great cut and an honest opinion about your style she is your girl.

I went to Maxine for the first time this past Friday and Evan was my stylist. My hair is fairly long, really thick, straight, but frizzy, and difficult to cut/style. I'm trying to grow it longer, but my hair was so uneven in the back. He truly listened to me and to what I wanted. He is super patient and took his time cutting and styling my hair and didn't rush through it at all. He gave me the most awesome bangs and fixed the un-eveness in the back and added some layers so that it wouldn't look too heavy. I love my new hair. I will definitely return and recommend him to my friends. Thanks Evan!

I have to hand it to these guys. They can do hair. I love just going in to getting my hair styled but always seem to miss it when it gets cut off. Maxine is a bit pricey, but I like to shell out for the perfect layers. I mean its a friggin tough job to get my hair right.. .espec. since its naturally curleee. I think I may try to scope out some good stylists near my hood though..

Go see Bob!! For my birthday, I had Bob cut my hair and it was the best present I could give myself. Not only did he do a beautiful haircut that left my hair looking healthy, but his blowouts make me want to strut down the street and whip my hair back until i have whiplash (and the blowout lasted a good 3 days - loves it). Bob is kind, funny and he definitely knows what he's doing. I felt very confident in him and could just relax and let him work his magic.

Robert is AMAZING and I am entirely happy with the service I received at Maxine's! Robert fixed my hair and ended my six months of 'hair' misery. Let me start by saying that about six months ago I had long hair down to the small of my back. I decided to go back to my natural hair color (ash blonde/brown) and a high end salon here in Chicago over processed it and fried a lot of my hair off. Since the prior salon made my hair too blonde, I went elsewhere to have my hair dyed an ash blonde/brown. The second place accidentally dyed my hair black and mismatched my roots. After going to two places I was pretty miserable and as a young professional woman, these drastic results were unacceptable - the black was most shocking at work. Going back to my Maxine's experience, two months ago I saw Robert and asked to have my hair lightened. He was very honest with me (thank goodness) and told me my hair was too damaged to lighten at the time, and that doing so would most likely cause damage (meaning more of my hair would have to be cut off). I asked him what my options were and he gave me three: (1) lighten it that day and have most of my hair cut, (2) darken the roots to match the rest, or (3) wait six weeks to lighten it and condition it heavily with a hair mask in the meantime. I put my trust in Robert and chose option 3. On the big day Robert lightly bleached my hair twice and added red to it. He did all of this with virtually no damage. My hair color looked amazing and I still had my length! Almost instantaneously I felt 100% better about my appearance, and that's thanks to Robert. I also wanted to mention two of the guys that work at the front desk, Carlos and Richard, they were great! And I especially want to thank Carlos for recommending Robert to me. I feel that the prices, although a little high, are reasonable for what you get - remember you do get what you pay for. Overall I highly recommend Maxine's to everyone.

Maxines is in a great location; friendly front desk, etc.etc. But the best reason to come here is JOSIE--she recently moved here from Trio, and she is the most amazing hair-cutter/stylist, ever. If you are looking to switch things up, or just need a new cut, you will not be sorry....expensive, but its your hair! Why not spend a little more and get the very best hair cut...you will not be sorry!

I've been a Client here for over 7 years...wow! My go to girl is Qiana. She has the skill, style, patience and so much more. Although prices are a bit steep for a wash and blowdry ($80), the level of service is superb. The two best stylists for easily handling naturally curly hair are Qiana and Michelle. Both of these ladies are superb at styling, cutting, keratin treatments, special occasion up-dos and fixing bad jobs by stylists form other salons. And should you need another type of service, you're in great hands: Waxing see Jamie Make-up see Michelle..yes, she kicks butt at that too...just look at her makeup on herself! Stunning! Color see Robert Holding down the front desk are Ricky, Carlos and Tracy...some of the funniest, most personable people you'll ever meet. Treat them right and you're sure to get that last minute appointment when you need it. Above all, Maxine's carries the best product line-up your hair will ever experience - Shu Uemura and Kerastase. Trust me, you'll never want drug store again, especially if you have naturally curly hair. Four stars because of the steep prices and a la carte charging..in this economy everyone needs a deal..at least every now and then.

I moved to Chicago this past summer. I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair. The first time I went to Maxine I had a decent cut...nothing amazing. However, when I asked my colorist a rec. for a stylist she suggested Sanda. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sanda. I recently went short and she did an amazing job. I have never had so many compliments on my hair before. As a struggling teacher the cut is expensive....but well worth the money. I still need to find a good colorist...everytime I get my haircolored it turns out more red than I want....I just want a natural brown. For my stylist Sanda...I give her 5 stars!!!

Accommodating management encouraged me to give the salon another chance and I'm glad I did. Second time around was a good experience and I left the salon with a great cut. My stylist listened to what I wanted and didn't want and was extremely precise and patient.

I've been going to Maxine's since 2000. Tina and Sanda are the best for color and style. Being Latino with curly and lots of hair, I always walk out of the place feeling great. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

I am not a salon girl and I am DEFINATELY not a fancy downtown salon girl so this place HAS to be special. I have gone there a few times to this trendy, upscale and modern salon to be greeted by friendly people without major attitude. My sylist was Rivka and I LOVE HER! I love her style and her cuts! Have you ever had a haircut by a person who you didn't think was all that attractive and thought to yourself "Why would I trust my beauty to this person?" With Rivka, I don't feel that way and hope I walk out looking like her! My new haircut she suggested has looked good for months and I am still getting complimented on it!

hi, i write this note to replace a review that i had previously written about this salon. I had felt unhappy with my experience at this salon for a few reasons. In response to my review, i received a note from the owner that was honestly, over the top in graciousness. Given the number of positive reviews about her business on this site, she could have easily ignored and discounted mine in a defensive way. I know that there are no facts about the actual services in this review but i wanted to post it because, when a business owner treats her customers with so much respect, you know she runs a class act and it is worth giving the place another chance/ trying it out.

Every time I get my hair cut here, I leave feeling like a movie star! I've had my hair cut here 3 times. I love how, the first time I made an appointment here, they asked about my hair type and paired me up with someone who specializes in that particular type of hair. I was paired up with Adrianne and she rocks! I have a lot of super fine hair and really like to have a hairstyle, not just a plain 'ol cut. She nails my hair ever single time. I just went to see her today and I am thrilled! I took in a picture of what I wanted and she nailed it. I got a compliment in the street within ten minutes of leaving Maxine. Adrianne is always upbeat and friendly. The salon is always very clean and there are people cleaning up hairs as they are being cut. Very nice, white, modern looking place. Everyone is friendly. I got lucky and found Maxine right after moving to Chicago. I was terrified of trying a new colorist after some past horror stories, but Yelp led me right to Jasen and his incredible highlighting talents. He is a total sweetheart and does a fantastic job lightening me to just the right shade of blonde. I've gotten compliments on my hair color all over the place! The price is reasonable - getting regular highlights is EXPENSIVE, but this place is no more expensive than my past hair salons. The bad news is that I tried Maxine for a cut, twice. I'm too lazy to run around town using multiple salons, and I was so happy with my color that I figured it made sense. Well, the first time I got a trim and was charged $120 for the 10 minute cut. Considering I used to pay $55 to an awesome stylist, I think this is outrageous. Unfortunately, I didn't learn my lesson and went back a second time for a more substantial cut. I again paid $120 for a cut that ended up much shorter than I'd requested. I almost cried. Needless to say, I'm on the hunt for a new place for my next cut, but I could never give up my every-six-weeks visits to Jasen!

Robert Benett is the best colorist. He is a true master of his profession. I go every 8 weeks and my hair is healthy and stays shiny. I receive many compliments. Malese does a fantastic haircut with the perfect grow out. I trust her completely with my hair. Excellent.

UPDATE: I had been to Maxine a few times and I was pretty happy with it. Rivkah is very nice and gives exceptional blowouts. Last summer, I decided to do something different and go a lot shorter. There was some miscommunication and I ended up with an unsatisfactory cut. I called Maxine and they had me come in the same day and have it tweaked, free of charge. I also mentioned in my previous review that I was unhappy with the color, and Tracey contacted me and asked me to come in and try again, as her guest. I booked an appointment with Stacie and am so happy I decided to go back to Maxine! She is very knowledgeable about color and was able to tell me that the light ash brown color I am always trying to get out of my dark brown is basically impossible, among other random color questions I had. We decided on honey blonde highlights. This was my first time going much lighter but I am so pleased with the results. She did the color herself, without help from an assistant, and was very careful in applying and checking in on how the color developed. My hair has more dimension and the highlights look so natural. I notice less that my hair even has highlights. It just looks... sunnier, which is perfect for summer. I got my hair blown out by Neepa, who I ended up having so much in common with. Another great blowout from Maxine. I also really appreciate that she told me exactly what products she was using on my hair. Very impressed by the management, who in the end corrected both my haircut and my color. I'm excited to try more color with Stacie. I'll be back for sure.

UPDATE THREE This may be getting tedious that I keep making updates, but after a decade of putting up with shoddy hairdressers who claim to be elite (Toni & Guy, Charles Worthington etc salons), I am so thrilled that I found Bob and Josh at Maxine. Bob is the best - I don't need my hair cutting that often but i do need my bangs taming as they go wild inbetween cuts and i start to look like a porn version of Jill Munroe. Bob lets me run in to see him for 10 minutes to tame my bangs and then I'm off looking less pornish for another couple of months. Josh is the best colourist I have had, period. He's an artist with his balayage skills. Love you both!! And if my friends don't start using you, I'm cutting them off.

I thought I wrote a review earlier about this place but looks like I'm going to have to do it now! I love Maxine! Severn is AWESOME! I have really thick asian hair but Severn knows how to get in there and chop it all off making my hair perfect. I wanted layers and so I got layers!! I had a great hairstylist back in CA and was so afraid I wouldnt be able to find anyone in Chicago that could do what she did, but then I found Severn. This place accepts all credit cards but the salon will only charge you for the services. If you'd like to give any tips, you'd have to pay cash for it.

I agree with the post about the esthetician Jamie. She is the best for a bikini wax. I've never had an appointment more than 15 minutes long, I"ve never waited more than 5 minutes, it's as painless as a bikini wax can be, and she remembers you and picks up right where you left off in your last conversation. I've recommended her to family and friends.

I continue to be amazed with Rivkah's skills as a stylist. She used to cut my hair when it was long and layered, but recently I wanted to go short again. She gave me the cutest, most precise graduated bob I've ever had. I keep getting tons of compliments and my husband can't keep his eyes off me.

I am quite the cheapskate so when I saw the price list I kind of freaked. But I gave it a whirl after talking to a coworker about the difficult life of ladies with fine hair. My solution: Amy, the down-to-earth hair guru, who, instead of chatting you up about her drama, teaches you all things hair. I've adjusted my budget now to fit her into my beauty regimen. I miss Jaime. I seriously miss this chick that can wax me, flip my legs in abstract positions while talking sushi spots in Wicker Park. Since I'm 2,000 miles from home right now and I'm desperate, I popped into a place that had 4 stars on yelp. That extra star really does mean the world. I'm contemplating hopping on a plane just to get my hoo ha ha treated. Or if I was a self made millionaire, I'd hop HER on a plane to get me taken care of. My coif was butchered twice while I was away from home, my hairs down there are not fairing too well and all because nothing compares to Maxine. Oh well, unless summer then.

DEFINITION OF MAGICIAN: One whose formidable skill or art seems to be magical. EXAMPLE OF A HAIR MAGICIAN: Bob Gartlan! He really does have the ability to make you look like a movie star. Just let him do his thing and bask in the results. With all of the compliments you'll receive, you'll be addicted to Bob's cuts. I promise! It took me 6 long years in Chicago before I finally found my hair magician. Thanks BOB! Recently I switched colorists. I am with Robert now. This place is very pricey. Don't go if you're not willing to pay. But if you are willing to pay, you will get your money's worth here. It is a wonderfully peaceful place and the staff is very skilled and courteous. If you like to take care of yourself and aren't concerned about the cost, then visit Maxine.

This place is great. My mother and both of my sisters have gone here for over two years. We all get our hair cut by Rivkah (http://www.maxinesalon...), who is fantastic - I've never had a better haircut, but it's my sisters and mom who really look dramatically different and feel great with their cool new looks. My mom gets her coloring done by Stacy, and she's been very happy with Stacy's work (plus she's "such a doll," as my mother says). The colorists and stylists at Maxine can do anything, but the vibe is very classically chic - I haven't seen many clients leaving with mohawks or garish colors.

I just moved to the city and was a little nervous about finding a new stylist. My search is over! I have hair extensions and plan to fly back to Scottsdale to have them redone every 3 months but was looking for someone to trim them up in between (not an easy task). BOB GARTON is "THE MAN" ! I left feeling and looking like a movie star! I seriously noticed people staring at my hair as I walked down Rush Street :) I was happy that when I washed my hair and styled it by mybigself it still looked fabulous. He even sent me home with styling products that really made a differnece. I will be back

I have been to previous salons in the past and have never experienced anything like this. Wonderful gentle smiles greeting you at the door (RICK). Jasen is excellent, He listens and analyses your hair and tells you what would best compliement you, He listened to me as I pour my heart and soul out and was very compassionate. I recommend him to everyone, He's great with coloring ethnic hair as well(im AA). After that I went upstairs to visit the very talented and drop dead gorgeous Quiana. She is very maticulous at what she does and holds conversations which have you feeling like you have known her for years. She took my lifeless thin hair and had me walk out with my co workers asking me if I have weave in my hair. I would most def be back in 2 weeks. Jasen I wish we could color our hair every 2 weeks as well because you gave me killer highlights, unfortunately I have to wait a couple of months before I get them retouched. Yes, they are expensive but you pay for what you get so stop saying you have to take out loans, its not like you were forced to go there. If you want top notch service you better believe you have to pay $$$$ and it was worth every cent of my money. If you should find yourself at Maxines tell them Christina S. Recommended you. Great salon -- they use kerastase, a prerequisite with me -- and they are really nice and friendly. Polite on the phone. Wow, why did it take me so long to find this place?? I got a really great cut here and recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere with the following qualifications: Clean, modern decor without being sterile Kerastase products (ok i'm obsessed but they smell so good) Welcoming, not snobby staff Great location Reasonable prices Availability of stylists QUALITY, stylish cuts. ((Ok not to be rude, but you won't get a "Chicago" cut. For those of you who have lived abroad or on the East coast, you know what I mean. A Chicago cut, to me, is that flippy, sticking out cut that was sort of trendy in the 90s, but not really, and people seem to still think is "cutting edge." It's like some Chicagoans see what's in style, and then they do it to the nth degree and make it ugly. I'm from Chicago don't get me wrong I love you guys but it's noticeable the second you step off the plane.))

These people are so wonderful! I needed some work on the quick, the love of my life had just asked me out!, and my usual salon was booked. I fired up Yelp and found Maxine, thank heavens! Not only did they listen to me sob about being ugly for a first date, they squeezed me in pronto! Then they did such an amazing job that I'm ditching my regular salon and making this my new place. Yay! Getting my hair cut here was SO NOT SCARY! Seriously, when was the last time you went to a new stylist and a new salon without a little trepidation? From the initial call to make the appointment during which the person who answered the phone helpfully suggested Severn on account of his experience cutting Asian hair to the appointment itself, everything was easy and relaxing. The salon is clean, spacious, and modern and everyone I talked to there was friendly and helpful. It's the sort of place that probably could be snooty if they wanted to, and yet really really weren't. Severn is fantastic. He didn't offer the slightest reproach when I ashamedly told him I hadn't had a cut in 8 months because I don't trust new places, nor did he "tsk tsk" when I told him I only blow dry on special occasions. He listened to what I need and then made suggestions for what he thought would look good. It was great that he was really thinking about what would work for me. He gave me just what I need- a clean, simple cut that looks great and won't require much styling, and he did it with lots of care and attention to detail. He even spent a few minutes meticulously trying to discover which few strands on the left side were causing it to look unbalanced (in his eyes, that is. I couldn't even tell!) The cut was relaxed and unhurried, and it was fun talking to him- he's a super nice guy with lots of interesting stories. You may at this point be wondering whether a good salon review from me holds any water given that I'm the sort of person who can go 8 months without a haircut... if you don't believe me that this guy is great, there's a magazine clipping on the wall in front of Severn's chair from the July 2008 issue of Vogue which calls him a "rising star" stylist. Make your appointment while he's still got time for you! Oh yeah- and there's a 25% discount for new customers if you mention you found them on Yelp- great deal. But do tip your stylist based on the pre-discount price... they're still giving you full service!

Becca is an absolute doll....consistently awesome cuts for my curly hair. It's rare that I find someone who cuts my very thick, very unruly hair in a cut that works both straight AND curly....while the price is a little steep, Becca's cuts always last me at least 8 weeks and I've pushed them to 12 when my travel schedule didn't allow me to get back for a cut.

Bob, Bob, Bob. It is all about stylist Bob and his miracle cuts. He knows what I want before I know. I am thinking of a style, and when I walk out I have it. He can read between the lines when I chat about what I think would be good. His cuts last longer than usual. A good thing since I have moved to the burbs and have to travel to get there. (One of the things I miss about living in Streeter area). Would and have recommended Bob to numerous people. Those that tried Bob have great comments about their experience. He makes the whole experience fun!!

OVERALL: The entire staff is extremely friendly and professional. I always had a great experience. CUTS: When I moved to Chicago I was nervous to find a good stylist. My hair is very fine and thin and I wear it so short one false move means I can't exactly go to another salon to get it fixed. A trusted co-worker recommended Severn at Art + Science on Armitage. After just one fantastic haircut, he moved to Maxine salon and I followed. Severn worked magic on my hair for two years before I moved to Austin. He was very concerned with making sure the cut looked great with my face shape, body type, personality, and styling habits. I'm to the extreme of hands-off, but he managed to give me cuts that looked amazing even on the days I bludgeoned the snooze button and walked straight out the door. Usually, short hair means really frequent haircuts, but I can't afford to go back that often. Even on very short hair, he built in so much structure that I could go nearly two months without a cut and still get asked for the the name and number of my stylist. Seriously, he gave me a discount for how many new clients I sent his way. He is that rave-worthy. On top of his amazing hair talent, he is a joy to be around. I wished I was one of those old-school Barbie dolls whose arm you could crank up and down to make her hair grow, just because he is so much fun. He's great at remembering what's going on in your life, and we found a lot of ground for interesting conversations. He always made me comfortable, even though I don't feel like I belong in fancy salons. It's pricey, but who isn't crotchety on bad hair days? 800 great hair days in a row, consistent compliments, zero stress come haircut-time, and Severn's company was worth every penny. COLOR: I had color done once by Stacey. We had some serious miscommunication about what I was looking for and it was so far off that before Severn even finished cutting my hair, it was clear something needed to be done. Stacey is very sweet and fixed it no questions asked. I was ecstatic with the results and her recommendation for a shampoo to prolong the vivid color. The only trouble I've had is that on part of my hair, she put in highlight color, and walked off to shampoo someone else. I didn't realize it for a while, but those parts of my hair were so damaged that when I colored next, it disproportionately absorbed the dye and my hair was a complete disaster. I had to go unnecessarily dark to cover it up. I believe she is normally very talented, and this was a mistake that was part communication and part carelessness on an overbooked Saturday. I would go to her again for a single process color or if she was not as busy.

The only reason I can't give Maxine a 5 is because it is pricey. I guess it's not their fault - it's the neighborhood - I just wish I weren't so addicted to Bob. Not only does he always give me a great haircut (and is mindful of the fact that I'm not coming back every 6 weeks or buying $100 worth of product), but I have a HUGE crush on him.

Talented staff with great attitudes. Becca freshened up my bob, Tina gave me beautiful, warm, high & lowlights, and Rivkah gave me a sleek blowout. Everyone there seems so friendly & genuinely accommodating. Also, they're really good at reading you, i.e. they won't yap your ear off when you're tired & just want to bury your face in a magazine. I think I've found my new salon.

Adored this salon. Decided to try somewhere new recently (because I didn't want to explain to my normal hairdresser why I wasn't pregnant anymore, not because I didn't like him), and this place was perfect. Many top notch stylists and colorists who have been featured/quoted in fashion and beauty mags made me think it would be hard to get an appointment. I was surprised to have the phone answered by a human being (see my review of Mario Tricoci) and to get an appointment with only a couple days' notice. Very posh feeling to the salon, but friendly, down to earth folks working there. Less pricey than I would expect at $70 each for cut and single process color. My stylist spent a lot of time and care on my haircut and made tweaks to get my angled bob to sit just perfectly. I definitely plan to go back.

This place is incredible. I get my haircut with Bob, and he's fantastic. It's such a joy to get a haircut! The colorists are so talented as well...I have had Jasen color my hair and he's dynamite. The salon is beautiful inside and always busy...so you know they are doing something right. It is more expensive than most salons, even in the downtown area, but you get what you pay for, and it is very much worth it!

In a word, this salon is excellent. I have been going for about six months and love every single person I've met there. Jason does awesome blonde highlights. Once when I needed to get in last minute, they set me up with Sara who was also amazing. The service is impeccable and the location is great. You won't be dissapointed.

Amy is an amazing stylist. You get EXACTLY what you asked for. I have had her cut my hair in three extremely different styles. They were all perfectly done. I usually come armed with several photos because I believe they convey more than my decriptive language would.

I love this place. Everyone is so friendly--not snooty like a lot of upscale salon employees. I recommend Josh for color. He is the only colorist I've ever been to that understands exactly what I want to do with my color--and I've been to a lot of salons. He's also got a delicious southern accent and good sense of style. And I recommend Bob for your cut. Again, understands what I want and has NEVER left me traumatized and I am really picky and weird about my hair. He's handsome in a classic way and extremely charismatic. This place rules.

I am a black woman and have been going to Maxine's for over 8 years. Amy cuts my hair and takes her time and does it right. Tina colors me and really warms up the tones in my hair. I have had other services done here including manicures, pedicures, and waxes. Those are great, but the hair cuts are second to none. Great salon for black and white customers. Timely, clean, cutting edge salon!

I was in town for a wedding and on my concierge's recommendation, went to Maxine for a blowout/style. I'm always wary of new stylists but I had absolutely nothing to fear. Adrienne is the BEST stylist I've ever met, and that includes my regular stylist at home in San Francisco. She worked her magic and my hair turned out voluminous and full while still soft and swingy. She also added some subtle waves....a touch of tasteful GLAM. She really listened to what I wanted and totally exceeded my expectations. She is AWESOME!!! Front desk staff was a little aloof and snooty, but I was so happy with my hair I didn't care. Thanks, Adrienne! I wish you lived in San Francisco! * Pros: Adrienne, the best stylist in the world. I went to this salon for the first time to get my hair hilighted by robert. I left with my hair looking brighter and much more natural. Although the prices are high their is no pressre to add on more services or products. Beautiful salon, robert is highly recommended. * Pros: colorist, service, valet parking

Jamie is the best brazillian waxer in Chicago. I have been to many of the "quote" best waxers in Chicago and none compare to the experience that I had with Jamie at Maxine's. She is super fast, virtually painless, precise (no stray hairs), completely entertaining and professional.

Every time I enter Maxines I get excited. Why because I know I will leave looking better than I did the time before. Becca is an absolute doll always surprising me. I use to be the person with the magazines saying I love that or how about this. Now I sit in her chair and say whatever you think will be fine. Color is also a no brainer with Jasen, he stops for a minute asks a couple questions asks if I have any ideas on what I would like to see and takes it from there. I never had such a relaxing experience at a salon. Well worth the money and well worth the time. Check out is also a breeze. The receptionist are always polite and always there to help if you need it. * Pros: valet parking, service, atmosphere * Cons: closed on mondays

I have been going to Maxine for my entire life. My mother started with Maxine about 20 years ago and we have followed her to over 3 locations. While it took me awhile to find my perfect stylist I am very very happy now. Robert is very good for my color, though if you're looking for something shocking you'd be better visiting a salon on Belmont. They aim for more natural looking color though I have gotten him to do pink streaks before. Amy is the best stylist I have ever had. I'll never forget my first time with her, I decided to cut my long hair very short. She was thrilled at the idea and it turned out amazing. She has a great personality and we always have a great time. The haircuts she gives me are always complimented by my friends, coworkers and even people on the street.

She is undoubtly the best Polish lady with a Hispanic last name who does wonders with African-American hair! I had a fabulous experience here. I got my color done by Tina and my hair cut by Aimiee. Both were unbelivable. Tina listened to every word that I had to say and worked with me to get exactly the look I wanted. Aimiee did not make one cut to my hair until she looked at exactly what I already had (layers, lenght, ect) and explained to me in full of what she wanted to do. Once I agreed to the plan she went on her way to giving me an excellent haircut. The place is clean and the people are so nice. I will be returning. * Pros: Nice Staff, Clean, Talented Individuals
