Fall's Most In-Demand Haircut Will Have You Booking An Appointment ASAP

Dare to go short.

If you've been pondering a shorter haircut, there is no better time than fall. "Humidity is low in the fall," says Amy Abramite, Stylist and Creative Directory at Maxine Salon in Chicago. "There's less unwanted frizz and flyaways to manage, making a smooth blowout [for a short cut] easy to keep."

That said, there is still upkeep to think about with shorter hair. "You have to consider how much maintenance you want," says Ted Gibson, celebrity hair stylist to Serena Williams. "If you are low-maintenance, I would stick with longer hair because it doesn't require as much time in the salon."

From a classic pixie to a wolf cut, ahead, discover the trendy short haircuts for fall.

Wolf Cut

This is a combination of a shag and a mullet. "The layers up top are short and blend into bangs," says Abramite. "The longer lengths behind the ears are disconnected from the front with choppy layers in the nape." To style, mist sea salt spray onto damp hair for a tousled texture.

Buzz Cut

With the emphasis on cheekbones and other facial features, the buzz cut proves that less is more. For an easy carefree nighttime routine, brush hair down with a bristle brush and warp with a scarf until dry. When you wake up, remove the scarf and top with a hair oil for hold and shine.

Modern Shag

Trending for the last several seasons, the modern shag is only gaining traction with a slightly shorter length. The style can be worn with choppy bangs, flipped-out ends, or just messy. Opt for anti-frizz shine spray to keep flyaways and wispy hair in check.

TWA With Defined Curls

TWA, or teenie weenie afro, is a great style to embrace your hair's natural dimension and bounce. For challenges with static electricity, Abramite recommends adding a daily leave-in conditioner to combat dehydration.

New Pixie

Available in a dozen variations, the pixie haircut is having a moment. "The new pixie is above the ears, without bangs, and full of movement and texture," says Gibson who recommends getting a trim every four weeks. For styling, use a texture paste or pomade to lock the hair into place.

Box Braid Lob

A chic twist on the classic lob, the box braid lob is super versatile. Add some beads for a more elevated look or top knot it for evenings out. Tip: Protect hair with a bonnet or head scarf while sleeping to prevent frizz and flyaways. In the morning, apply a leave-in conditioner for added shine.

Blunt Cut

"This one-length shape is free of layering for sleekness at the top and a strong, clean line at the bottom," says Abramite. "On dry hair, mist a heat protecting spray and flat iron the ends to enhance the bluntness of the cut. For a glassy shine, add an oil or elixier from roots to ends to gloss."
