Sexy Strand Saturdays: Michelle Williams' Edgy, Grown-Out Pixie

Stylist Adrianne Johnston of Chicago’s Maxine Salon, tell you how to recreate Michelle Williams‘ edgy pixie in this week’s #SexyStrandSaturdays!

OK!: Why is this look hot for Saturday night?

Adrianne Johnston: Michelle’s hair is uber sexy. Having shorter hair shows you are confident and comfortable with yourself, because you’re not hiding behind long hair. Plus, tucking it in one side and sweeping the other over for a little drama is always a head turner!

How to recreate her style:

1. Grow out the fringe of your classic pixie and get used to sweeping it to the side.
2. Adrianne also suggests getting an “undercut,” keeping the nape area and the back more tapered and less bulky. This area tends to grow faster and get heavy. By doing so, your cut will still have style in the grow-out phase.
3. To style this look, flat iron the sides and back (so they lay smoother and closer to the head) and apply a light-weight paste (like Redken’s Rewind-06 Pliable Styling Paste) or gel for hold.
4. Or, to wear it messy, use a generous amount of a root-lifter (like Pantene’s Pro-V Root Lifter) or volumizing spray, then blow dry and scrunch for lift, texture, and hold. Style with your hands, and add more hold with hairspray.

How to recreate her color:

“To really achieve Michelle Williams’ look, matching her blonde color is a must. If you are a dark brown to black, have your colorist either foil or balayage your hair heavily with a high-volume lightner and lift to pale blonde, then rise and apply an ash base lift to your roots for a short period of time. If you are a medium brown to blonde, your colorist should apply a high-lift tint from roots to end, and for more effect, add in high and low lights of pale blonde and medium golden brown. And voilà, Michelle Williams!”
