Josh Shores

A colorist of 11 years, Josh Shores loves creative color and excels at bold blondes and rich reds. As the go-to colorist for correction issues, he has rescued many grateful new clients from their old color mistakes. "Good color is clean color," he says. "If it looks good wet, then you know it will look great dry." Clients love his unflappable steadiness as much as his southern accent. Josh trained at IBS in Long Beach and New York City, Art and Science, the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, CA and the L'Oreal Professionnel Academy in New York City. He is a color educator at Maxine, as he was at Art and Science, and has assisted at various shows for Difi and Modern Organic Products. Josh is trained in the Keratin Smoothing Treatment. While at Maxine, he developed the Butterfly Effect (a color correction technique) and Express Highlights. To relax, Josh enjoys travel, modern interior design and playing with his two Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

I finally found a great salon!!

I finally found a great salon!! My hair is thick, wavy and my ends were very fried from a previous color and cut that I wasn't really happy with. Evan cut my hair. He took the width out and made my hair more manageable then any cut that i have ever had. It's not too short and not to long, just perfect. Josh colored my hair and fixed my too blond highlights. He made my naturally dark brown hair more richer and even added some subtle red! Staff was very friendly and offered my coffee and refills. Very caring.

I get more compliments on my hair color than you can imagine. Josh does an incredible job and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is by far the most talented and personable colorist I have come across in Chicago or anywhere else for that matter. If I could give him 20 stars I would.

Couldn't be happier

I went to Josh for my color and I couldn't be happier. These are the best blond highlights I've ever had!! He actually listened to what I wanted and gave me some helpful ideas that would make it look even better. I'm telling everyone I know to go to him.

UPDATE THREE This may be getting tedious that I keep making updates, but after a decade of putting up with shoddy hairdressers who claim to be elite (Toni & Guy, Charles Worthington etc salons), I am so thrilled that I found Bob and Josh at Maxine. Bob is the best - I don't need my hair cutting that often but i do need my bangs taming as they go wild inbetween cuts and i start to look like a porn version of Jill Munroe. Bob lets me run in to see him for 10 minutes to tame my bangs and then I'm off looking less pornish for another couple of months. Josh is the best colourist I have had, period. He's an artist with his balayage skills. Love you both!! And if my friends don't start using you, I'm cutting them off.

Josh and Patricia are the BEST

I have been seeing Josh for my highlights and Patricia for my cuts for almost 2 years and I have never been disappointed. When you walk into the salon you are greeted by very friendly staff who direct you towards a room where you can put your coats and other belongings. You are then directed towards the comfortable waiting area where they provide coffee, tea, water, etc. and good magazines to read. I have never waited longer than 15 minutes for my stylists. Both of the stylists I see are very professional. Josh is extremely sweet and friendly. When I give him an idea of how I want my hair to look he always listens intently and gives me exactly what I was hoping for. Now when I go and see him I just ask him to to do something that would look good and it always turns out perfectly. Patricia is very talented and fun. I have never been disappointed by my haircuts, they are always perfectly executed and they look great with my type of hair. I went in one time hoping for a cut that would be fun and easy to take care of, and she went above and beyond my expectations. Maxine salon is very versatile, everyone will have a great experience!

I love this place.

I love this place. Everyone is so friendly--not snooty like a lot of upscale salon employees. I recommend Josh for color. He is the only colorist I've ever been to that understands exactly what I want to do with my color--and I've been to a lot of salons. He's also got a delicious southern accent and good sense of style. And I recommend Bob for your cut. Again, understands what I want and has NEVER left me traumatized and I am really picky and weird about my hair. He's handsome in a classic way and extremely charismatic. This place rules.

Josh made my color never look better

Josh makes my hair look beautiful and natural, I have never got so many compliments on my hair before. Im going to send all my girlfriends to him, so they can enjoy his great talent and sweet southern attitude. The salon itself has a great design and atmosphere. * Pros: skill,atmosphere * Cons: parking
