Theresa has been my stylist for over 10 years and I honestly would never trust anyone else to touch my hair. Several years ago I moved to LA for work, but flew back to Chicago every 8 weeks for her cuts, despite the many salons in LA. She is meticulous in the styling process and extremely talented at developing the right look for your face and hair. I also love that she'll come to work on her days off to accommodate my friends who might be in from out of town, squeeze me into her packed schedule at the last minute, and never tires of the many bang trims I request between haircuts. She is an absolute artist and committed to her clients' satisfaction. I highly recommend her work.

I moved from CA to IL a few years ago & was having trouble finding a colorist who could incorporate blonde highlights without them looking brassy/orangey. I have very dark brown hair. So I've been having low-lights since I was never happy with the blonde highlights. HOWEVER, Diana Mildice just did my color a few days ago & I will be going back. She did a beautiful job. They blend in so naturally that my hair looks kissed by the sun...and in 6 weeks she will add more so that the blonde highlights will gradually blend in more and more and lighten my hair color. I have lots of hair and it's very thick so it is a time consuming process for any colorist to highlight that much hair and make it look as good as it does. I love it. For my haircut I had Theresa and I loved the cut. She did a dry cut, never trimmed my hair once when it was wet. THis was a new experience for me, and turned out to be a good one. She is very precise and takes her time....which makes a beautiful end result. I got tons of compliments from family and friends who loved the beautiful color and new cut. My girlfriend wants to make an appointment there now after seeing my hair. Can't wait to go back :)

I moved to Las Vegas a year and a half ago, and still fly in to Chicago to have Diana Mildice color my hair and Theresa Tufte cut my hair. They have spoiled me since 2001 with their awesome skills and I am a lifetime customer. Thanks for taking great care of me! You are THE BEST!!

I fly for good hair! Theresa and Diana at Maxine's are the best stylist/colorist combination a girl could ask for. I am originally from Chicago and currently live in Boulder, Colorado. Theresa and Diana had been doing my hair for years before I moved and I could not break up with this fantastic hair duo despite my new location. I come into town often and take advantage of being there to get my hair done by Theresa and Diana. They always accomodate my hectic schedule and keep my hair looking fantastic.

Theresa is Absolutely the Best! I have had my hair cut by Theresa Tufte for over a decade and of course followed her when she moved to Maxine's. I really like the classy and friendly atmosphere at Maxine's, which is thankfully missing the unpleasant drama of the once great Trio salon, where she had been at previously. Despite my somewhat perfectionist nature, Theresa has always exceeded my standards. She is a true professional. Recently, I have been dealing with some health challenges that have affected my hair. Theresa went out of her way, spending extra time working with me, not only adjusting my cut, but also giving me some pointers on how to blow dry and style my hair to accentuate the positive. I cannot say enough good things about her. She may at first appear serious - as she is always intent on creating an excellent cut - so a new client might be unaware initially, that she can also be light hearted and fun depending on the conversation. Besides being a great stylist, she has a truly caring personality. I highly recommend her. I started working with Tracy after I followed Theresa to Maxine's. She not only does a great color, she has a very warm, upbeat and kind personality. She really is a joy to go to. I have been delighted with my results.

On a whim, I scheduled a cut/color with Theresa Tufte/Diana Mildice while friends shopped!... Wow. The color was rich and beautiful, and the cut, the best I've had in years, maybe ever. I can go 5 days without washing it and it remains shiny and with lovely layers, falling beautifully. I don't have to use much if any product anymore, nor tools, which is a dream for me because I didn't do a very good job anyway. Now, I have taken to rearranging my schedule to go back every 3-4 months because that kind of service is worth it. Diana actually wrote her color "recipe" down for me for my stylist back home (no one EVER does that!) but I decided to just leave it in her expert hands. I have gotten more compliments on that cut/color, it's uncanny. The salon is light and airy and with a very energetic vibe. Maxine always comes by to say hello and check in. The first time I went, I actually returned 3-4 hours later because I forgot to apply my yelp discount, and the young woman looked up and addressed me by name! My salon at home still, after 4 years, asks me who I am and who I am there to see.....the customer service at Maxine is unbelievable.

I have been getting my hair cut with Theresa Tufte and colored with Diana Mildice since 1997 and couldn't be happier. Over the past 14 years I've followed them to a few different salons because I wouldn't dare let someone else touch my hair. They're absolutely GREAT at what they do and have such a loyal following because of it. In addition, they are the perfect resource to ask about products or services that you have been curious about. They won't try to sell you anything you don't need and are forthcoming in their advice. I don't know what I'd do without these lovely girls.

Diana and Theresa--What a Team! Just got my long, naturally curly hair cut short and hi-lited by Theresa Tufte and Diana Mildice. The consult with Theresa was great. She listed to what I was looking for and used her artistic skills and came up with a great cut that can be worn both curly and straight. Diana did not just hi-lite my hair, she hi-lited the great cut I just received. Diana uses color like a painter's palette. Both are perfectionist and compliment each others work. I love my new sexy cut and color. I'll be making a standing appointment.

This was my first time at Maxine's shop. I made an appointment with Diane for color and Theresa for cut based upon the reviews contained on this site. I was certainly not disappointed! I am also from LA (Orange County, California) where I live two weeks while I live in the Chicago suburbs the other two. I am in my early 40's and have NEVER had any highlights in my hair. I always just had my hair colored to cover the gray - the same color as my natural color. I have very long, very thick hair. My hair was all one color (flat black) and one length (straight & long) with 80s bangs. I was so bored with my look. I was definitely in need of an update. I called the salon, was treated well on the phone and made my appointment to see Diane and Theresa. Be forewarned - these ladies only work on Friday & Saturday so they book their time well in advance. I waited over three weeks for my appointment and it was worth every second! On my appointment day, I was running terribly late (the story of my life) and arrived almost 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Despite their completely full schedules, both Diana and Theresa graciously accommodated me... I explained to Diane that I was interested in the (rather expensive) "Balayage" highlighting process. However, when I expressed what look I hoped to achieve, Diane made some other professional recommendations (that were actually less expensive). I am so pleased that I followed her advise. After our consultation but before we started our process, Theresa came over, introduced herself and conducted our consultation. They coordinated their efforts at the very beginning so that I would be sure to have the end result I wished for. Diane is a MASTER at color. My hair has NEVER looked better and frankly, her services are very fairly priced. She has amazing hair (her best advertising) and is extremely engaging. She is professional and uses her time well but does not make your feel rushed or ignored. My previously flat black hair is now a warm, shiny deep brown with caramel, natural looking highlights. It really looks beautiful. Theresa does her cuts on dry hair. I have never had a "dry" cut before but it just makes sense. She took me once Diane was done with the first step of my color process, dried my hair (herself - I was never asked to do anything on my own, nor was I ever asked to wait for any amount of time regardless of my tardy arrival) and then sculpted gorgeous long layers that frame my face, updated my look (no more 80s bangs) and performed her magic while respecting my wish to keep my long hair. It was like magic watching her work. Each time she pulled my hair up, cut away and dropped it down, I could see the work coming together. Be aware that she is very intense - not one for much chit chat or tender heads - but she is a true professional. Focused but friendly... Ladies, this is the dream team of hair! While I was there, I truly heard more than a few "guests" say they would schedule their next appointment when they were back in "town" again - many of their clients actually come from out of state to see these two and after my amazing experience, I certainly understand why they do so. I highly recommend this salon and these two ladies specifically. I know I will be going back!

There are 2 employees at this salon who are truly exceptional...Diana Mildice is my Colorist, and I have NEVER found a better colorist in all of Chicago, and only one other that can compare to her abilities and skills in the entire World. (I am extremely well traveled.) Her skills are unparalleled in the industry, from corrective color with massive issues to the avant garde to simply beautiful and elegant color. If you need a colorist or are just thinking about a little freshen up, She is your girl!!! She is a Master in Her own right. I love her work and color, and she listens to you and what you want, and makes it work! She is so fabulous I just can't say enough! If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Chicago, you have to make an appointment with her. If you live here, consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to see her on a regular basis. The other person I referred to, is Theresa Tufte. She is a Master Stylitst, and you should see the cuts she can create. I have had 3 hair styles in my life that I just went crazy over...Theresa created one of those. It was absolutely beautiful. If you need a new look or stylist, look no further. And She teaches you how to style your hair as well, always giving tips and teaching you how to utilize your product properly. If you need a Master Colorist, or Master Stylist, definitely give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

I live in LA and travel for a living. In search of the perfect hair cut and color...I've gone to salons in Hollywood, Beverly HIlls, New York, Europe, South America, you name it. The best you ask? Chicago. Theresa Tufte for Cut and Diana Mildice for Color at Maxine's. I no longer waste money experimenting on new stylists, and running back to these ladies to "fix it." I always leave their chairs happy and feeling pretty. Best Hollywood hair in the middle of Chicago. Who knew?

Theresa's cut and Diana's color are the best in the business. I moved to Los Angeles a year ago, and still make trips back just to get my hair done. Both ladies are incredibly talented and meticulous! Theresa is the master of cuts that most stylists mess up--especially short or layered styles--and can work with difficult hair textures. Money very, very well spent. Both cut and color outlast weeks beyond the competition!

In the past, Ive been open to experiencing multitudes of varying colorists, stylists, etc. from sitting as a model at Vidal Sassoon to having regular cuts at Chris McMillan's salon in Beverly Hills. For the past several years however, I have finally found a match that fulfills all my needs. Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte work exquisitely together as colorist and stylist. Ive fluctuated between blonde and chestnut over the years, and can continually count on Diana to produce the most beautiful results...she is an artist. Theresa is also amazingly skilled at her trade. Im regularly complimented on my cut and recently transitioned to bangs with no regrets. Most importantly, these women are considerate and accommodating of your input and requests. Not only will you walk out of the salon with an amazing hairstyle, you will have gained two extraordinary friends.

I can't say enough about Theresa Tufte and Diana Mildice. Maxine is a top salon and these women help make that all possible. They are perfection when it comes to finding the right color and cut for you. I have been following them for 15 years and have never been disappointed. Maxine is what I consider the top salon in the city of Chicago. I have followed Theresa and Diana from their days at Sasson, then Trio, now Maxine. Not only does Maxine have top notch stylists and colorists, but the ambiance, service and professionalism of the staff makes this salon a cut above the rest. I have never had a dissapointing cut or color from Theresa or Diana, as I have always put my hair in their hands. I have had years of compliments on my hair styles. Maxine is worth the drive for me.

Hair is a big thing for me... I think it is worth spending a lot on your haircut because you wear it everyday and is more important than anything else you would wear! After my lifelong hairstylist left the country a few years ago I have been on the hunt to find someone new I could trust and would consistently give amazing haircuts. Theresa fits the bill!! She really knows what she is doing and people are always asking me where I go because they love the cut. I barely have to do anything with my hair because the cut works for itself.

I have been following around Diana for color and Theresa for cuts for over 15 years! They are simply the best hair "artists" in Chicago! I would never go to anyone else and would travel near and far for their services. I'm constantly complimented on my hair cuts and color! Maxine's hit the jackpot hiring these two. I also followed Diane to Maxine from Trio... Diane is the most talented colorist that I have ever used in the 20 years of highlighting my hair. My hair looks even better after this first visit to Maxine, and I think it is due to the superior quality of the products they use. I did not get my hair cut, but had scheduled Theresa to dry my hair. Drying is an extra charge which is new to me, but the additional $30 is worth the complete look. I recommend trying the two ladies for your next hair appointments - they are REALLY good.

I am thrilled to share my favorite colorist and my favorite stylist with Yelp viewers. Diana Mildice has been coloring my hair and Theresa Tufte has been cutting my hair since 2001 and they are stuck with me as a client for life. They have both been so wonderful and they treat me with such great care. I recently developed an allergy to gluten and they have both gone out of her way to ensure there is no wheat protein or oat ingredients in the products they use on my hair. I am so happy to see Diana and Theresa at Maxine. The salon is clean, spacious and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up from this customer!

I have gone to Diana Mildice for color and Theresa Tufte for cuts for over 6 years. My hair has never looked better. Diana sometimes jokes about having to go find her magic wand to fulfill my request. The truth is she doesn't need one. She is able to listen and really hear what it is I'm wanting my hair to look like (even though I have trouble articulating just what that may be). Theresa is able to cut my fine hair and afterwords, l look like I have 10 times more hair. When Theresa asks me what we're doing with my cut, I just ask what she thinks will look best. I always take her advice and I am thrilled with the results. I highly recommend Theresa and Diana for a great cut and believable blond color

I've followed Diane Mildice & Theresa Tufte from their previous hair salon to Maxine Salon. Diane has been my colorist for years and I can't imagine being without her. I followed Theresa Tufte and Diana Muldice when they both made the transition from Trio Salon Chicago to Maxine's Chicago. Philip Palmeri, one of Trio's partners, had colored my hair for many years and he was "the man" - the "master" with color. I have hair that is resistant to color and needs a highly skilled colorist. The only other person I trust to color my hair, who is even close to his expertise and then some, is Diana. Both Diana and Theresa are highly skilled, interesting, smart professionals and if that's not enough - they both have hearts of gold. I congratulate Maxine for recognizing the high calibre of perfection and integrity these two classy women will bring to Maxine's Chicago. I've been fortunate to have Theresa cutting and styling my hair for the past 10 years. Her hair cutting technique is truly her own and is awesome; she is an "artiste" - a real perfectionist and is never satisfied with mediocrity. Once again, kudos to Maxine's!

For truly gorgeous hair, enlist the aid of the dynamic duo - Diana Mildice for color - blondes (without the brassy), vibrant brunettes, and glowing redheads. Diana does highlights, lowlights, and hand painting with consistent expertise. Theresa Tufte (a.k.a the Perfectionist) gives you such a precision cut, that you can actually replicate the results at home. I've been their client for over a decade, yet I still glow every time they spin my chair around to face the mirror where I can admire my glamorous new cut. More importantly, they are delightful individuals with killer senses of humor. Sassoon trained, they have recently moved from Trio to Maxine's at 712 N. Rush in Chicago.

See Diana for color, Theresa for cut. Diana Mildice and Theresa Tufte are new members of the Maxine team. I followed them from another Chicago salon since I couldn't imagine going to anyone else. Diana is by far the best colorist I've ever had. She'll listen to what you want while offering advice as to what will work best for you. Theresa is a truly gifted stylist. She's given me consistently awesome cuts for the past 4 years. I really think if you are looking for a colorist and/or stylist, definitely give these two a try. You won't be disappointed! Oh and they are super cool people, too. The salon itself is beautiful and I found the general vibe there very nice. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
