A mondo Moment

We love it when great opportunities happen to our wonderful friends and we were thrilled when Maxine Kroll, owner of Maxine Salon on Rush Street in Chicago, contacted us and shared the exciting news that the salon was used as the location for a photo shoot with Season 8 Project Runway contestant Mondo Guerra and Mint Male magazine. Not only that, but several team members, including Maxine’s Creative Director Amy Abramite and stylist Marie Hamel, provided all the hair styling for the shoot. To coincide with the fashion Mondo created—his inspiration for the hair was inspired by Lady Gaga’s ‘Fame Monster’—Amy and Marie were asked to produce white, frizzy, textured bobs. The pair hunted down wigs at a costume shop favored by local drag queens, then proceeded to burn them with a flat iron (a technique Amy learned from Orlando Pita) to produce the perfect texture. Finally, they clipped the wigs into bobbed perfection and… auf Wiedersehen! The shoot was a success and Mondo instantly fell in love with the entire Maxine Salon team.
