Warm Icy Blonde
Kicking things off with on the lightest end of the spectrum, we have warm icy blonde, as modeled by actress Anya Taylor Joy. “Warm, icy blonde combines platinum and silver-blonde with a hint of warmth,” says Sally Hershberger NoMas colorist, Gloria Bonilla. “Ask your colorist for platinum blonde with a blend of warm and cool undertones.”
Soft Golden Blonde
For an even warmer spring hair color transformation, Bonilla says to book an appointment for a soft golden blonde process à la Sabrina Carpenter. “Golden blonde is a classic warm shade with soft highlights,” she says. “Ask your colorist for a warm blonde with golden highlights.”
Buttercream Blonde
Next up on the blonde spectrum, we have buttercream blonde—one of celebrity colorist Chase Kusero’s favorite hues for spring 2025. “It’s a creamy, warm blonde with hints of vanilla and gold,” he says, pointing to Gigi Hadid for reference. “Ask for a dimensional blonde with warm golden lowlights.”
Peachy Rose Gold
Toying with the idea of going strawberry or red? If you’re not ready to make the jump, Kusero says that a peachy rose gold hair color, like Amber Le Bon’s, is a great option for spring 2025. “It’s a soft, warm rose with a peachy tint,” he explains. “Ask for a golden blonde base with a custom peachy-pink toner.”
Soft Strawberry Blonde
Dipping further into the red spectrum, we have soft strawberry blonde, a color that looks natural and radiant without being super bold. “It’s a delicate mix of golden blonde and warm copper tones,” Kusero says, pointing to Amy Adams for proof. “Ask for a warm blonde base with subtle copper lowlights for depth.”
Calico Hair
You know calico cats? Well, calico hair color is not a thing, too. “Calico hair is a multi-dimensional color look that blends various shades to mimic a calico cat’s coat,” Bonilla says. “Since calico hair is extremely customizable, ask your stylist to incorporate shades of black, red, blonde, brown, or orange in stripes throughout your hair. The exact shades should complement your complexion and cut.”
Toasted Caramel Balayage
If you prefer more of a classic bronde hair color for spring, Kusero suggests mimicking Ana de Armas’s toasted caramel balayage. “It’s a blend of golden caramel and honey tones for sun-kissed dimension,” he says. “Ask for hand-painted balayage with soft caramel highlights.”
Cool Mushroom Blonde
Planning to stick to a cool color palette until spring officially starts? You can still lighten things up with a cool mushroom blonde hair color. “It’s a mix of cool beige and ash blonde tones,” Kusero says, noting that Lily Rose Depp has rocked the popular cool-toned hair color. “Ask for a neutral-to-cool balayage with a smoky beige toner.”
Birkin Blonde
Meanwhile, if you want a hint of springtime sunshine peeking through, Bonilla recommends a Birkin blonde hair color. “Birkin blonde, or bronde, is a timeless shade that blends blonde and brunette tones, like Jane Birkin's,” she explains. “Ask your colorist for a bronde color, specifying whether you'd prefer it to lean more towards blonde or brunette. If you'd like it to look slightly sun-kissed, you can request dimension by adding highlights.”
Sun-Kissed Brunette
More of a brunette at your core? Kusero says you can update the darker hair color for spring by opting for a sun-kissed finish. “Sun-kissed brunette is a natural brown with subtle golden highlights,” he reveals. “Ask for soft, diffused highlights that mimic natural sun exposure.”
Copper Brunette
If you’re stuck between a red or brown hair color, Bonilla says that a copper brunette like Zendaya’s, above, is beautiful for spring 2025. “Copper is a livelier version of auburn hair since it has more of an orange hue,” she says. “Ask your stylist for an auburn shade with more golden undertones.”
Expensive Hues
Lily Collins’ hair looks downright luxurious above, and Bonilla says there’s a reason for that. It’s all about expensive hues. “Expensive hues are blondes, brunettes, or reds with warm undertones,” she says. “The touch of warmth elevates the natural shade ever so slightly. Ask your colorist for the color of your choice—blonde, brunette, or red—with warm, golden undertones.”
Vinyl Espresso
While dark brown hair colors are top of mind, allow us to introduce you to vinyl espresso hair. “It’s a dark brown with subtle pops of color on the ends,” says Maxine Salon colorist Lorena M. Valdes. “Ask for a rich root with pieces of the base to create a subtle movement in the midshaft.”
Copper Melt
Ready to go hot for spring? A copper melt hair color like Lana Del Ray’s will make your mane pop. “Copper melt is a rich, fiery copper blended seamlessly into a deep auburn,” Kusero says. “Ask for a vibrant copper root melt into auburn ends.” Since reds fade the fastest, he suggests using a color-depositing mask once a week to maintain vibrancy.
Cherry Zinnia
For a darker take on red hair, Valdes recommends a cherry zinnia hair color, like Rihanna’s, above. “It’s a beautiful dimensional red with a deeper root color with highlights and lowlights of red throughout,” she explains. “This color is achieved with all-over color with pops of highlights or balayage depending on customization for texture and density.
Burgundy Cherry Cola
Similar to cherry zinnia hair, we have cherry cola hair—a deep burgundy shade with a little less dimension. “Burgundy is a sophisticated, deep red and purple shade, almost wine-like,” Bonilla says. “Ask your stylist for a rich, deep red with violet undertones.”
Lavender Blonde
Meanwhile, if you’re hoping for an unconventional hair color for spring 2025, there’s always the option to adopt the season’s love of pastels. “Lavender blonde is a soft platinum with a subtle lavender tint,” Kusero says. “Ask for a platinum blonde base with a sheer lavender gloss.”
