Hair colors for spring 2025: the most sophisticated trends to look chic

From an ash black like the one Selena Gomez wore at the Oscars to seductive blondes.

If you're looking for the best hair color ideas , we have good news for you—you've come to the right place! This Spring 2025, there's no better way to refresh your look than with a hair transformation, and there's no shortage of great color ideas to try.

Last year's biggest hair color trends were honey blonde, rich brunette, and, of course, red and copper. But what's in store for the upcoming new season? Read on for more.

What are the trending hair colors for spring 2025?

“Natural, low-maintenance colors will be prominent, with a playful mix of color variations,” Diana Mildice, colorist at Maxine Salon in Chicago, told Glamour . “This means we'll see more dimensional blondes, reds, and brunettes that have a unique visual movement created by the layering of various colors.”

For her part, Shvonne Perkins, master colorist at Madison Reed, points to a surge in hues that evoke quiet luxury. “Cool and neutral tones are likely to be enhanced, as we've just experienced a great moment for beige and gold.”

Think ash browns, blondes that incorporate highlights and lowlights, low-contrast roots, and even almost blue reds, like Cherry Coke . That said, cowboy copper isn't going away. "Everyone loves a beautiful copper, and we'll be continuing this trend into 2024," says Diana Mildice, colorist at Maxine Salon in Chicago.

How to choose the best hair dye?

Choosing the best hair color for your skin tone depends on several factors. According to Abby Haliti, owner of Abby Haliti Color Studio in New York City, a lot of it comes down to knowing your skin undertone. “People with warm undertones typically look best in warm brown tones, like caramel or chestnut,” says Haliti. “Those with cool undertones, like pink or blue, often do better in cooler brown tones, like ash brown or espresso.”

Now, let's move on to the hair color options you should consider for your next look change.

Honey blonde

Get ready to see a lot of warm blondes. Celebrity hairstylist Rossano Ferretti says, “For color, a sun-kissed honey balayage brings warmth and richness to the front, blending golden and caramel tones seamlessly for a sun-kissed effect.” Sun-kissed honey balayage is ideal for creating depth and shine without harsh contrasts, making it a versatile option for both lighter and darker bases.

Copper cowboy

This color combines the warmth of a soft brown with the vibrancy of a dose of copper and truly works wonders to brighten most complexions. So, if you're thinking about trying this look among your spring hair color options, consult with your colorist and let them help you determine if warm tones will work best with your skin tone and eye color.

Brown balayage

The warmer months are the perfect time to embrace deeper, warmer, richer tones, and brown balayage offers the perfect balance of depth and dimension.

Inspired by celebrities like Lily Collins and Camila Morrone , this color trend is modern and versatile, and is a practical option for those seeking a low-maintenance look that also boasts a bold style with soft, diffused highlights. This color is great for brunettes, or for anyone transitioning from lighter tones and looking to go darker without losing visual interest.

Praline brown

It's a pleasing blend of shimmering golds and pearly browns achieved by layering very fine strands of light gold and wider strands of deep hazelnut brown throughout the hair. But the best part? It's very low-maintenance.

Vintage platinum blonde

“Platinum is a classic statement, but for 2025, we're seeing a shift toward a more refined, vintage-inspired version of the shade,” notes Ferretti. It's certainly a major shift. Think of all the Old Hollywood- inspired bobs and corresponding colors we've seen lately.

“Vintage platinum takes the boldness of platinum blonde and softens it with pearly, creamy undertones, moving away from icy or ashy finishes,” Ferretti continues. “It's about finding that perfect balance between bold and delicate.”

Cherry red

According to Stephanie Angelone, a stylist at RPZL Hair Extension & Blowout Bar in New York City, we can expect to see a lot of reds among the trending hair colors, especially the gorgeous chocolate cherry.

Black lacquered

It's another trend to keep in mind among the hair colors that will be most popular in spring 2025. Katy Perry is helping to make this high-shine color fashionable with her recent tour, the release of new music, and the Iconic VMA Vanguard Award.

Blonde Palomino

It is a soft combination of intense and vibrant golden highlights, creamy pale blonde and intense topaz, placed in ribbons throughout the hair.

Bronde Mixes

According to Perkins, some of the top hair color trends for spring 2025 will be blonde blends: “These shades fall somewhere between blonde and light brown, with soft highlights and no whitish tones.”

Vintage Brown

By placing subtle ribbons of walnut and nutmeg underneath and throughout the hair, we stay true to the brunette world with a color that looks organic.

Black Espresso

If true black seems too intense for you, Ferretti suggests trying espresso black: “It’s a softer alternative that retains the depth and richness of black but is less dramatic. The result is a luxurious, velvety shade that’s just as striking with a little more softness and dimension.”

Cherry Coke

It's an almost blue take on the red trend, deeper and darker than what we've been seeing for years. Another excellent choice among hair colors for the new season.

Fuzzy roots

The trend that will continue to dominate highlights in 2025 is low-contrast growth. While money-piece highlights and chunky '90s highlights emerged last year, the overall aesthetic will continue to be a soft, diffused line of growth that strays from visible streaks.

Luminous blonde

This luminescent blonde is created by blending multiple shades of metallic gold and platinum throughout the hair, allowing one color to define the other while creating a backdrop for the lighter shade to shine.

Smoky Moray Eel

Smoky brunette tones have a level of elegance that we believe will be a trend this spring among the most requested hair colors in beauty salons.

Warm apricot

Known as “kettle copper,” this warm apricot shade is enhanced by blending red and peach tones throughout the hair.

Blush latte

A creamy blonde shade created by blending a pale blonde and a hint of soft pink into the hair: “This palette contains shades that complement each other and blend smoothly and seamlessly,” she explains.

Soft ombré

There's something truly appealing about a less-than-trendy look. Deeper, grown-out roots highlight lighter areas, provide a natural base, and draw attention to the eyes and cheekbones, which is what highlights are supposed to do. It's a more modern effect than having bright, light pieces originating from the scalp.

Frosted Strawberry Blonde

According to Lorena M. Valdés, colorist at Maxine Salon in Chicago, we can expect to see an influx of frosted berry among the hair colors that will dominate this season. It's a refreshing shade to face the endlessly hot days.

Vanilla Sundae

Another delicious hair color combination? Vanilla ice cream blonde. Light and slightly cool golden tones intertwine, creating the soft shade of your favorite dessert. Combining this color with a light brown shade creates a soft, dewy chocolate effect. It's sure to be popular because it's a gorgeous mid-range blonde that's still bright. It's neither too golden nor too ashy.

Hazelnut tones

The hazelnut color adds richness to the hair, and the combination of caramel tones creates a beautiful golden effect.

Dusty Rose

We're starting to see a lot of dusty rose gold in salons. This 2025 hair color trend combines blonde and a warm gold to create a dusty rose gold. We first saw it in the early 2000s, and now it's making a comeback.

Deep burgundy

As expected, we'll be seeing more red hair dyes this year. This trend involves adding more violet to reds, creating more of that burgundy or merlot color.

Brown balayage

Subtle highlights are a great way to refresh dark hair without going too dramatic. Brown balayage gives hair lots of dimension and sparkle. “This color gives a beautiful, subtle, sun-kissed look and flatters everyone,” says Jamila Powell, owner of Maggie Rose Salon in Miami.

Reverse balayage

If you already have bright highlights but are looking for something to help them grow out, stylists suggest choosing a lighter root color than your natural color. It will blend seamlessly, creating less contrast; however, you'll still see highlights.

Creamy blonde

If you're a natural blonde and want a lighter shade but not platinum, opt for a creamy blonde with a touch of warmth: "With a naturally light shade as a base, you're already cutting through several layers of underlying warmth that would take a brunette hours to achieve," says celebrity colorist Bianca Hillier. Definitely a great option to consider among hair colors for spring 2025.
