2025 Hairstyle Trends | What are the lazy sparse bangs popularized by Korean stars Jennie, Rose, and Lisa? Why is it popular among female stars all over the world?

Is it troublesome to cut bangs? Do you need regular trimming and blow-drying? The lazy sparse bangs that are popular in 2025 are the simplest, most worry-free, and even low-maintenance hairstyle.

Want to dive deeper into the world of bangs, but not sure how to maintain them? The good news: lazy wispy bangs are about to become the easiest new hairstyle. If you’ve been asking yourself lately, “Should I have bangs?” the answer is yes, this low-maintenance, instant look is something everyone should try. The likes of Jenna Ortega and Selena Gomez have both long-endorsed the trend, and they've totally got the lazy-girl stamp of approval, which is exactly what you love to hear when you're rushing out the door in the morning.

What are lazy sparse bangs?

Regardless of hair quality or face shape, this lazy bangs suits almost everyone. You can go to a salon and ask your hairstylist to give you lazy bangs. But what exactly is the lazy wispy bang? With so many different types of bangs, how do you know which is the right choice for your face shape? How to design lazy and sparse bangs? VOGUE asked the hairstylist for the answer.

“A lazy bang is completely different from a straight bang without layers. The lazy bang has a light and fluffy wispy effect, which makes the overall look softer and more playful, and can loosely highlight the eyes and temple area,” said Rogerio Cavalcante, a hairstylist at Second Floor Salon in New York City. “Whether you have fine hair, less hair, or longer hair, the lazy bang is cut less than the straight bang, so you can still see the exposed forehead. Basically, the wispy bang has a dynamic and more airy texture, which is very suitable for layered hair.

Why has this type of bangs become popular so quickly? “We can thank K-pop stars for making this trend mainstream,” said New York hairstylist Dan Williams. “The hairstyle originated in South Korea and has been particularly popularized by K-pop stars like Blackpink members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, Squidward’s Jung Ho-Yeon and model Lee Sung-Kyung.”

Hairstylist Dan Williams also points out that they are the best choice for first-cut bangs. He said: "Lazy bangs are very beautiful and much more refined than traditional bangs. They are a great way to enter the world of bangs, and they don't require too much hair." Although lazy sparse bangs cannot completely cover the forehead, they are easier to style due to their light nature. “So on windy days, always use a spritz of spray to keep your bangs in place,” says hairstylist Cavalcante. For those who aren’t sure if they want full bangs, a fringe is a great option because you can test the look and try different styling techniques before fully committing.

What face shape is suitable for sparse bangs?

The length of sparse bangs can also vary greatly, because they look equally chic, like Audrey Hepburn-style super short bangs, straight bangs, center-parted or side-parted curtain bangs, all need to be trimmed frequently to maintain the length, but sparse lazy bangs do not need to be trimmed frequently. This kind of bangs is suitable for most face shapes. “Wispy bangs are often flattering on square, heart and oval face shapes,” says Jenna Spino, a hairstylist at Maxine Salon in Chicago. “This cut can soften the jawline and even elongate the face.”

Still, according to Cavalcante, it all depends on how the hairstylist styles them. He said: "Any face shape can have lazy wispy bangs because they are not as high maintenance as straight bangs or curtain bangs. In addition, I think it is very suitable for people with longer foreheads or rounder faces to create more three-dimensional effect."

How to style sparse bangs?

This is very simple and the lazy sparse bangs are comfortable no matter what season. “Wispy bangs work well any time of year because they’re not as thick as thick bangs, so they won’t drive you crazy in hot weather,” Williams notes. Spino also thinks this wispy style is an ideal bang option for warm weather. “Wispy lazy bangs are perfect for summer because they’re more casual and don’t weigh down your forehead as much. They also air-dry well, which is perfect for summer,” she says. Perfect for anyone who wants to be lazy.

How to comb sparse lazy bangs by yourself? “Wispy bangs are easier to style, especially for hair types that tend to frizz,” Cavalcante says. Wispy bangs can also be held in place with product or a cute accessory or headband when you want to style a ponytail or updo, or you can smooth and hold them in place with styling gel and hair oil. Curly hair can definitely create this look, but one thing to note is that friends who like side-parted bangs must give up this type of bangs because side-parting requires a middle part.

As for the actual design? It depends on how much time you are willing to spend processing it. For a lazy-girl style, you can choose to air dry. “You can let your hair air dry to create a messier look, which is great for thin bangs, and just use your fingers to separate them,” Spino says. For more intricate styling techniques, use a round brush and a blow dryer to achieve maximum volume. “Use a volumizer and brush upward with a round brush to add volume to bring out the texture,” says Spino. She reminds you to be mindful of hair care, especially when using heat tools. Before applying any heat to your hair, apply a heat protectant.

Can I use a hair straightener? Can. “Use a straightener to hold the bangs in place, angled slightly towards your face to give them just the right amount of bounce, then use a curling iron to set and cool, then spritz with your favorite texturizing spray when you’re done,” says Williams. In terms of products, Cavalcante recommends a light hold leave-in conditioner and texturizing spray. "This is the most effective way to keep your hair from becoming heavy and flat," he said.

Are you eager to get your hair cut now? When you make an appointment with your hairstylist, be sure to ask if you can go "shorter, layered, or cut to eye or temple length." If you want to try a more bang-like look, the hair in the middle can be shorter, but only a small part of the hair can be left out to create movement and dimension.
