Pumpkin Spice Hair Color Is Here, and It’s Perfect for Fall

Delicious.

No matter how basic it’s been deemed in the past, there’s really nothing like a pumpkin spice latte on the first crisp day of fall. Now pumpkin spice hair color is here to give you the same feeling in hair color form.

Red hair colors, in all forms, have been having a major moment. The trend kicked off with Zendaya’s dark auburn at the 2019 Emmys, then faded into a lighter peach shade for most of quarantine, and it seems rich reds are back for fall—if Gigi Hadid’s copper shade at the Met gala is any indication.

“This winter is all about burnt copper and brandished red tones,” confirms Mark DeBolt, co-owner and master colorist at New York’s Mark Ryan Salon. “Think deep, earth reds with natural finishes.” DeBolt adds that the color can be especially striking on people with green or hazel eyes.

But if a richer red shade feels a little too intimidating, fear not. A colorist at Chicago’s Maxine Salon, says the pumpkin spice trend includes all shades of red. “Pumpkin spice hair color looks just as good as the flavor tastes,” she says. “The color is full of bold tones that include ginger, cinnamon, and chestnut. Each of these shades can be interpreted as pumpkin spice or blended together to make one very rich tone.”

Shades like peach, strawberry blonde, light copper, and ginger are such a pretty way to easy into the trend. They still add the spice that makes this look so pretty and fall appropriate—plus, the slightest hint of red will help warm up your complexion as winter arrives. Ask your colorist to start with a peachy gloss to ease in and opt for a demi-permanent dye once you know you're into it.
