Chi-Town Hair Trend: Mini-Crimping
By Shani Silver
If your locks could use a lift this spring, we've found it. We're loving volume, but backcombing is so eighth-grade-dance-recital, and we'd rather go for something grown up. Amy Abramite, Creative Director at Maxine Salon, suggests a small texturizing iron, or mini-crimper. "The texturizing iron's primary function is to create body and volume. It can be used in the areas that need lift, such as the crown." And don't fret about this trend damaging your tresses: "To create extra body and volume, take small sections of hair at the scalp and crimp only the first inch of the hair. This will result in an explosion of lift, with the slightest change in texture. Because the crimping plates are so small, the hair's natural texture is slightly altered in appearance, but the amount of body is amplified.” Abramite also recommends using a little product before and after. She likes Shu Uemura Ample Angora Volumizing Light Foam before, and Shu Uemura's Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray after. But if you'd rather leave it to the pros, book an appointment at Maxine. 712 North Rush Street (at Superior Street); 312-751-1511.
