Bronde Hair: The Hottest Celebrity Hair Color Trend

Get the best of two hair color worlds.

If 2024 has taught us anything, it’s that the days of bland, restrictive hair colors are behind us. Gone are the days where brown, blonde and red were your only hair color options, and once you committed to one there was no going back. Nowadays, innovations in hair color technology in tandem with the brilliant minds of celebrity and expert hairstylists have opened up dozens of doors for experimenting with your hair color.

While colors like cowboy copper and candlelit brunette have put fresh spins on classic shades, one celebrity color trend that is truly revolutionizing the landscape and bridging the gap between the ends of the hair color spectrum is that of “bronde” hair. As you can probably guess from the name, bronde hair refers to a masterfully blended combination of brown and blonde shades, and the color trend has dominated the celebrity hair game as of late. Ahead, expert hairstylists talk all things bronde, from how it works to photos to show your stylist.

What Is Bronde Hair?

While the name is fairly self explanatory, bronde hair is a bit more nuanced than just being the halfway point between brown and blonde. As a colorist with top Chicago hair salon Maxine Salon, Lorena M. Valdes, explains, “Bronde hair is a brown color with added blonde accents, as opposed to someone with light brown hair trying to be described as a blonde.” Creative director, master stylist and colorist with Paul Labrecque Salon and Skincare Spa, Paul Labrecque, adds that “Bronde hair is a mix of blonde and brown shades that helps widen the gap between touch-ups because it is a more natural look.”

How Do You Go Bronde?

As more celebrities experiment with bronde hair, we’ve seen transformations from blonde to bronde and brown to bronde. So, how do you go about achieving bronde hair based on your base color? As Labrecque explains, both blondes and brunettes can go bronde, it’s just a matter of what you ask for. “Brunettes would balayage in hues of blonde, and blondes would balayage in hues of brown,” he says. Valdes adds that “From brown you can absolutely go bronde. From blonde you can too, if you have super dark blonde hair that is almost a light brown. If not, you will need to add dark first to achieve a bronde look.”

Who Does Bronde Hair Look Best On?

When considering any hair change, from cut to color, one of the biggest questions we ask ourselves is, “Will this even look good on me?” It can be hard to picture yourself with a totally different hair color or style, so consulting your stylist for what will work best with your complexion, face shape and more is essential. When it comes to bronde hair, though, the shade is fairly versatile, Labrecque assures.

“Bronde hair looks great on many skin tones,” Labrecque explains, “But, I would say this color is the least flattering on people who have pink undertones in their skin. With every other skin tone, one could easily create tones of bronde in the hair. Keep in mind there are many different shades of blonde and brown that can be melded together, and a great bronde color service by a professional will expertly blend those tones to really complement the client’s skin and eyes.”
