Nothing cures the winter blues like a seasonal beauty refresh. A cool new manicure in a frosty hue or a chic hair color are more than enough to make the cold weather feel manageable. But the crème de la crème of refreshes is a transformative haircut. Even if you’re not in the mood for a big chop, there’s power in changing your haircut with bangs or layers. This season, the winter haircut trends are remixing the classics and creating a fresh crop of styles to suit every preference. Haircuts for Winter 2024
Long Layers
You may not be ready for a big chop or a complete hair transformation, but you can still upgrade your look. The key is adding strategically placed layers to give your hair a quick refresh. “A layered cut is perfect for those who want to maintain length and add some texture to their style,” says hairstylist Jenna Spino. For a classic look, the stylist suggests adding clean-cut layers throughout the hair and around your face. “This will add lift to the style and freshen up their look,” she says.
Blunt Bobs
Short cuts, especially bobs, are a timeless choice come winter. However, if you want a bold and fashionable style, the blunt bob is the cut for you. “Confidence is key to rocking this style,” says hairstylist Rogerio Cavalcante. The sharp ends and lack of layers give it an edgy, sleek look. But the box shape also uniquely frames your facial features.
Cropped bob
If you cut your hair into a swingy bob for fall, your best bet is to opt for a cropped style this winter. According to Cavalcante, the cropped cut is sweeping Hollywood because of its timeless feel. “Going shorter is becoming more popular for ease of styling and maintenance,” he says. While cropped styles may sound scary, the pro notes that they expertly display your facial features and can even provide a nice contrast to long and round face shapes.
Soft Shag
“Shaggy haircuts are moving away from edgy groups into more mainstream styles,” says Cavalcante. For a modern take on the trend, he recommends opting for a style that has relaxed layers starting around the crown and taper as they move downward. “Adding bangs or face-framing pieces helps give it a laid-back effortless vibe,” he notes.
Natural Curtain Bangs
Winter hair colors tend to be more natural than those of summer and fall. To match that style, choose a cut that puts your natural hair front and center. Sweeping long layers and equally fluffy curtain bangs add a subtle touch of sophistication to your style while keeping it looking organic. To get the most out of your cut, celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan suggests pairing it with a soft brown shade like chocolate, walnut or butterscotch.
Shaggy Bob
This cut fuses two traditional cuts for a completely new style. The choppy layers give the bob a textured look and add movement while keeping it looking relaxed. “You want the final style to be a bit messy and undone,” says Cavalcante. The pro notes that the shorter cut works best for those with rounded facial features as it helps shape and contour the face. “If you like a playful look that’s low-maintenance, this is a good choice. All it needs is a few loose waves and a good tousle, and you’re good to go.”
