TikTok’s Viral Thermal Brush Is the Secret to Your Best Blowout

The secret is out.

As a beauty lover, I can attest that TikTok has a lot to offer. Daily my FYP is filled with new skin care tips, makeup trends, hairstyle hacks, viral perfumes, and then some. Just as prevalent on my FYP are the viral products that fuel these trends, like the Wavytalk Thermal Brush ($50). A deep dive into hairtok will quickly reveal how popular the brush has become. Falling somewhere between a curling iron and a brush, the styler is not just unique but also the perfect tool for bouncy blowouts, according to the millions of TikTok reviews.

Most of us know the struggle to create a salon look at home. So when a tool comes along to lighten the load, we take note. Ahead, we spoke to two hairstylists about the benefits of the styler and they shared tips for getting your best blowout yet.

What is the Wavytalk Thermal Brush?

If you thought Wavytalk’s viral brush fell into the category of equally viral blow-dryer brushes, you’re not alone. Though the two types have a similar silhouette, they are completely different. “Wavytalk’s Thermal Brush is a versatile hair styling tool designed to create smooth, frizz-free hairstyles,” says Andrew Fitzsimons, celebrity stylist and entrepreneur. He explains that the tool combines the convenience of a hairbrush with the power of heat styling tools.

“The dual design features a heated core with two temperature settings for varying hair thickness and coarse bristles that wrap around the brush. With a blow-dryer brush, the core acts as a hair dryer where heated air gently passes through holes to dry and shape the hair in one easy motion,” explains Amy Abramite, stylist at Maxine Salon in Chicago. While both tools can be used for blowouts, Fitzsimons notes that the Wavytalk’s unique combination makes it easier to achieve salon-quality shine and volume at home.

What are the benefits of the Wavytalk Thermal Brush?

Getting a bouncy blowout and luscious curls without going to the salon usually takes time and technique. If you’re using a blow-dryer and a round brush, you’ll need to learn to maneuver both tools in unison. A blow-dryer brush eliminates some of the leg work, but additional tools such as a hair straightener or curling iron may be needed to smooth the hair. Since Wavytalk’s Thermal Brush combines both steps, it can reduce styling time significantly. As a unit, the tool enhances shine and smoothness. But it can also be used to add volume. “The bristles gently detangle the hair while the motion of using the round brush adds volume,” says Fitzsimons.

How to get the best results

For best results, Fitzsimons recommends using the brush in sections. “After parting the hair into sections, gently glide the thermal brush slowly through the hair to ensure even heat distribution,” he advises. To add volume to your style, you’ll need to add some lift at your roots. “Wrap the styler under the hair at the roots and pull upward away from the scalp for volume on the high heat setting. For straighter hair, pull hair downward, using a bit of tension for sleeker results,” says Abramite. In a similar sentiment, Fitzsimons notes that gently rolling the brush as you style will be helpful.

Given the fact that this brush is a heat styler, it’s important to always use a heat protectant while styling. “The desired style will determine how the brush is used,” says Abramite. For thick, wavy and curly textures, she says the tool will help reduce frizz and relax texture for a smoother and sleeker look with more shine.
