3 Breakout Hair Color Trends That Feel Fresh For Spring

If you've been contemplating a new hair color, March is the perfect time to book in for a safe salon appointment. It's probably been a while since your last trim, and with warmer weather on the horizon, it's the ideal month to give a new color a try — even if it's just to experience some kind of reprieve from this Groundhog Day experience.
To help you prep for a pre-spring refresh, we talked to a few industry hair-color pros who helped us break down the top color trends of the moment. While there's always a place for a barely-detectable babylight, these concepts are undeniably cooler and will give you hair that makes you feel fun, which is the optimistic energy we're trying to send into March and April. Find the inspiration that fits your vibe and aesthetic, ahead.
 

Candy Pink

You can't deny it: The taste of warmer weather has you thinking in florals and pastels. In NYC, the quarantine boredom coupled with spring on the horizon has sparked another uptick in temporary pink dye jobs. You can go electric bubblegum, like tennis pro Naomi Osaka, or something softer, like this candy color out of Spoke & Weal Salon.

Model Hannah Woldetsadik inspires in a vibrant purple-pink tone. If you go for something similar, colorist Nicole Tabloff recommends investing in a color-depositing conditioner, like Overtone, to keep the bright hue from fading.

Golden Caramel

A cross between dirty blonde and platinum, this golden caramel just looks expensive. Tiffany Haddish debuted a variation on the warm gilded color at this year's Golden Globes. Her hairstylist, Ray Christopher, says that he achieved the shiny shade using Redken's Shades EQ Demi-Permanent Conditioning Gloss.

NYC-based colorist Colleen Flaherty, who works out of Spoke & Weal, shows how a buttery gold-caramel reads on longer hair with extensions.

Rich Red

Celebrities like Sarah Hyland and Gigi Hadid have recently taken their hair full-on red, which may hint towards a trend in auburn and reflective copper tones this season. According to celebrity colorist Nikki Lee, the impetus for Hyland's rich and vibrant red was, in part, to do something fun with "flair for spring."

As with any hair color, but a nuanced red especially, it's important to do your research and bring inspiration images to your colorist so you're both on the same page.
